As BIM Lead for the MEP team in a multi-disciplinary design consultancy, trying to achieve a consistent look for our deliverables not only across a number of offices geographically, but also across multiple software platforms can be quite challenging. There is only so much content can be included in a template without overwhelming it. This case study will follow our journey to find a way to standardize the symbols we use, colors, naming conventions, classifications and more. The projects we work on vary from sizable new builds, which we would model in Revit, to "small works", where we may just be replacing a boiler in a plant room we originally designed some time ago, which will have been drawn up in AutoCAD. These smaller projects usually do not have a big enough budget to include modelling and then editing any existing services. Our aim is to provide drawings of the same look and quality across all our projects, regardless of the software package used.

A couple of years ago I packed my family home into a U-Haul and left the bright lights of the United Kingdom's capital city for a little village on England's south coast. Why? I had finally found the position I had been working so hard for: CAD manager. And you know what? It didn't work out quite how I expected. Maybe I'm not yet experienced enough to tell you how to succeed as a CAD manager, but I can certainly help you to avoid the mistakes I made. This is a follow up to the earlier lecture on performing a fabrication database health checkup. You can use our default data set, or bring a copy of your own database for use in the lab-and you can leave with the real personalized data to use back at your office. Do you know what's in your fabrication database? Do you know what's missing? This lab will show you how to perform a health checkup on your fabrication database so you can make informed decisions about what you need to do. And now that you know what needs doing, how do you do it? How do you do it efficiently? This lab will also show you how to make those changes in an informed and effective manner. The fabrication database is very powerful, but also fragile and complicated. It's common to see mismanagement or even complete lack of management because of fear or effort involved in correcting issues. This lecture will arm you with the knowledge to take charge of your database instead of it managing you.

Through Maya software, we can solve the limits of digitally shooting both on-set and recreated environments so that the initial ideas can come to life. Whether it's recreating a museum for Missy Elliott or the Staples Center for rapper Cal Scruby, Maya has played an essential role in making these ideas happen. This class will show you how the speaker placed the live-action talent into new environments, and how those environments were built from the ground up. You will see what went into creating the interior of the Staples Center from scratch—including modeling, texturing, lighting, and rendering—and how the artist was placed inside with the camera sweeping all around. You will also see how we overcame some obstacles on Missy Elliott's latest music video, "Cool Off," by digitally recreating a museum.

The MEP design journey is an iterative process between P&ID schematics and the 3D modeling and detailing on Revit. Using out of the box solutions, this workflow is lacking some dynamic link between P&IDs and 3D Model that would avoid redundant data creation and would help to ensure consistency between synoptic schemas, BIM models and the project documentation. We will present the Revit plugin created in collaboration with Autodesk Consulting that bridges that specific gap and how Bouygues Construction is using this Revit API development (among others) to help improve Revit adoption and move forward in its BIM maturity journey.

We'll discuss the current state, the struggles the firm has encountered so far, and what it has done with the API to enhance Fabrication Parts in Revit with the 2018 release. You'll also see examples of models created using Fabrication Parts, what we can do with the data from these models, and how Comfort Systems is fabricating from them.
