Today Inventor Nastran software is available as part of the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection, meaning many designers and engineers like you can adopt simulation early in the design process, when it has the most impact. Despite software availability and simulation continually becoming easier to use, there remains a fundamental question in the mind of every designer and engineer: How do I know my results are correct? This is the main reason for the lack of Inventor Nastran adoption in the workplace. Inventor Nastran, although easy to use, has a comprehensive set of tools to help you answer this question and make sense of your results. These include mesh convergence, numerous result plots, section views, and much more.

This session will introduce you to over 20 Top Inventor Nastran Tips and will include going through different type of connectors including Rigid, Spring and Rod elements using various examples demonstrating Inventor nastran live including Blast Load and Drop Test scenarios. You will be introduced to Linear analysis and Nonlinear Analysis using both implicit and explicit solvers including Nonlinear Transient Response Analysis and Explicit Dynamics Analysis. The session workflows will be based on industry best practices and my experience with working with designers and engineers. The goal of this session is to make you more confident in using Inventor Nastran software, and thus help you make better and more-innovative products within your workplace. The knowledge gained in this session will be also be relevant to Fusion Simulation as it uses the same technology as Inventor Nastran.

Real-world problems are rarely linear or static. Nonlinearities often impact the prediction of a product's behavior in unpredictable ways. These add uncertainty and risk to decisions made from either virtual or physical test results for engineers and designers who don't understand them. In this presentation we’ll use Inventor Nastran software to mid-surface a thin-walled assembly and weld the parts together. We’ll then go through the process of validating our model and then performing a nonlinear static analysis with linear and then nonlinear materials. Once the existing design is validated, we’ll perform a light-weighting design optimization to reduce the assembly’s weight, and then we’ll perform a nonlinear verification analysis on the final, reduced-weight design.

This class will demonstrate how to use the Inventor Nastran 2020 software as a tool for analyzing different polymeric materials models. We’ll demonstrate how you can get results with high confidence using in-house material data. We’ll demonstrate the great advantage of having Inventor Nastran 2020 at hand during Inventor design work. Focusing on daily applications using rubber O-rings (and other applications using plastic components with large deformations), we’ll show which nonlinear material model can be used to demonstrate deformations and stresses in the components. The presentation will also show how to transform your own mechanical material testing into useful nonlinear material model input. This presentation will show cases from the hydraulic, offshore, and mechanical design industries. We will cover Inventor Professional software and Inventor Nastran 2020. David E. Almost all the car companies like Ferrari, Ford, or Tesla invest in electric drive solutions. One of the biggest challenges in their new projects is the silencing of the car interior. After eliminating the loud combustion engine, we start to hear things like the knocking of the air condition system caused by vibration of fluid flow driven by multipiston pumps. Elimination of this effect leads to fatigue and failures. You’ll learn how to protect your design in Autodesk’s Simulation software. Progress is impossible without changes. Autodesk helps us make these changes properly.

Using one element type is not always feasible when performing stress analysis on large, complex CAD assemblies. Mixing solid, shell, and line elements together can produce a mesh that's more efficient and more accurate. This approach can drastically reduce analysis time and enable more automation in the digital prototyping process. In this class, Ed Gillman will explain the key differences between the finite element types and where they’re best utilized. He will then demonstrate the process of converting assemblies into mixed element models and the techniques that can be used to properly connect the mesh.

Generative Design in Autodesk Fusion 360 software creates hundreds of innovative optimized design options within a short period of time. However, there is no free lunch. When it comes to engineering, users need to think about the assumptions and limitations of Generative Design. Generative Design models are often slender and do not behave linearly in real life. Material may not be linear elastic over the loading cycle. And the model may need to contact other parts. Event Simulation (Autodesk Fusion 360) and/or Explicit Dynamics analysis (Inventor Nastran) can help confirm the acceptability of the Generative Design model by including all the nonlinear effects that may be encountered during actual use: nonlinear displacement, plasticity, and contact. This session will cover multiple aspects of creating the generative design and performing a simulation with Event Simulation or Explicit Dynamics.

It was a Friday morning, just before lunch, when a Teams message dinged: "RED ALERT!" Little did the speaker know that in less than a week the shop would be cutting metal on an innovative new suspension design created with the use of Autodesk design and manufacturing toolsets in Autodesk Fusion 360 and Inventor software. Exploring multiple design technologies—including Generative Design, Shape Generator, and finite element analysis (FEA) tools with Inventor Nastran software—a team collaborated to design and manufacture a new truck suspension prototype that shaved an unheard-of 20% off the weight of the suspension assembly. Three weeks later, the new prototype was on the showroom floor at a national truck show. How did we get there? What technologies did we use? And how did we choose one technology over another? This case study will retrace our steps and help you identify decision points you can apply in your own design scenarios. Most of all, this story will showcase the possibilities Autodesk design tools open up.

Autodesk Inventor Nastran simulation capabilities are embedded in Inventor software. However, the trend is to use simulation as a back-end check on the design. But why not use simulation earlier in the workflow? This presentation will show you how to start thinking about strength and stiffness as you evolve the design. With idealization techniques, you can get an early feel for how much material and where to place it, ignore details until the design is more fully fleshed out, and roll the design backwards and forward, using simulation as you go. The presentation will also take a hard look at shell and beam idealizations. Are they worth the effort? When should you use them? We’ll use several case studies to explore these ideas in the presentation.

FEA simulation software has been on the market for years, offering advanced analysis capabilities. However, knowledge from engineering practice is still lacking. These days, time moves faster than our traditional engineering workflow. Times have changed and now there is no time for trying. It's necessary to prepare a model with good mesh quality and results convergence in the first iteration. We will present good practices as well as tips and tricks for the simulation workflow. We'll look at complex and real industry examples in Autodesk Fusion 360 software and Inventor Nastran software.

The simulation will cover the setup of a rotational symmetric nonlinear static simulation with a nonlinear material model, a hyperelastic model, or a plastic elastic model. The sealing application will have several parts made from nonlinear polymeric materials where it’s essential to have a good set of material data, and the presentation will show examples of this. The different parts in the application will have multiple contact areas where it’s important to select the correct face-to-face setup for friction, penetration, and stabilization of the contact. The simulation will also show how to use multiple subcases to facilitate additional loading with a temperature increase and a hydraulic pressure buildup. This simulation will give a good impression of the initial deformation of the loaded parts.
