Of all the design disciplines in the construction industry, landscape architects have been left behind the furthest by BIM. Too often, the BIM model of the building allows high-quality coordination but is let down when it comes to Landscape Architecture, going back to relying on 2D workflows. We at Gensler's largest Landscape Architecture studio based in London have been developing a workflow to work in BIM/Revit for the past 4 years. This presentation is a summary of the work that we have been doing, shown with real-world Landscape Architecture projects from around the world. We will show our end-to-end workflow for Landscape Architecture from concept to production documentation including how all the forms of documentation, including drawings, specifications, and schedules have been handled in Revit. We'll also demonstrate how we've been using third-party software such as ArtisanRV in our production process to further streamline our workflow. Through this presentation we hope to be able to demonstrate how Revit can not only be used for Landscape Architecture but how it can be integrated into the virtual design environment.

This class is intended for architectural visualizers and visual-effects artists alike. It aims to demonstrate Factory Fifteen’s unique position between these 2 industries by showcasing 2 projects—a proof-of-concept science-fiction drama, and a film showcasing a stadium for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Attendees will learn how Factory Fifteen’s work in film has cross-pollinated the firm’s work with architects, creating new digital workflows and sensibilities toward “selling architecture.” As well as providing an overview, the speaker will go in detail into the filming and 3D post-production (using 3ds Max software and V-Ray) of one hero shot from each project, as well as illustrating planning and execution at every stage. The first shot involves the design, build, and animation of a mechanical robot and its integration into film footage. Shot 2 involves an elaborate time-lapse sequence over 8 years within a World Cup stadium, from tournament mode to legacy mode, dramatically replacing footage with an evolving digital sequence that leads us to the year 2030. This session features 3ds Max.

In this talk, 2 European partners—Fosters and Partners, an architectural design company based in London, and Concrenetics who blend art with urban needs to create architectural installations—will cover how architects are using large-scale hybrid manufacturing to introduce modern manufacturing processes to create cost-effective complex parts that are also environmentally friendly.

The class will be a lecture on the EQ house, the actually built architecture that AI and IoT deployed. It was completed in March of 2019. Installed with advanced IoT technology and AI, EQ House is expected to be attached by the owner as if it were life-like architecture. It is installed with varied sensors to perceive environmental status and accumulates data about the owner’s preference by means of “like” buttons from the smart watch. The experimental design, inspection, and fabrication process was also needed to actually realize the futuristic architecture of the EQ House. By using the optimization process, the design period to determine the pattern of the facade decreased by 60% and through the inspection using BIM 360 Docs software and mixed reality decreased 20%, and the fabrication by 25%.

This class covers advanced techniques that MEP modelers can use to automate the placement, modification, and customization of mechanical elements when they are confronted with complex architectural geometry. We will demonstrate techniques that involve custom workflows between Autodesk® Revit® MEP and Autodesk® Revit® Architecture software. We will discuss both software platforms simultaneously to illustrate the overlap of specific tools that are most often used solely by architects, but that can greatly enhance the productivity of MEP modeling. Attendees will learn how adaptive components, pattern-based systems, and the conceptual massing environment can be appropriated from the architectural tools to MEP users. These time-saving strategies become highly valuable when you are confronted with architectural projects of complex geometric form.
