Capturing progress data directly from the construction site is essential for streamlining the daily responsibilities of project superintendents. The availability of building information modeling (BIM)-based data in the Forma Build Assets tool, together with augmented reality (AR) progress reporting from sites through GAMMA AR, now provide an intuitive and reliable approach to progress tracking. Our case study will focus on the successful implementation of these technologies in a hospital project led by Batson-Cook Construction, a KAJIMA Company. We'll detail the strategies employed to effectively organize site teams for optimal data collection, the structuring of intelligent models to facilitate accurate progress tracking, and the automated processes we developed to maintain project schedules and timely payments. The presentation will conclude with a summary of best practices and essential insights gained from the experience.

There are rising needs for higher productivity, influenced by factors like overtime regulations, project complexity, and reduced proficiency among management. We were able to efficiently manage large-scale projects without delays by adapting Autodesk Forma and collaborating with project stakeholders. Drawing management relied heavily on Excel, which can be questionable due to difficulties in visualizing progress and understanding interrelationships with drawings and order changes. These miscommunications cause delays in 20% of projects. To address this, Autodesk Forma can not only integrate data with models, but also allow for better visualization, especially during schedule changes, with the goal of eliminating misunderstandings and material order delays. We achieve zero delays stemming from the procurement process across all Autodesk Forma-adapted projects. This initiative is then integrated into on-site construction progress management.

This session will explore various integration pipelines—both current and experimental—that share 3D models from the Autodesk Forma platform with the Esri ArcGIS platform, enabling seamless Geographic Information Systems (GIS) visualization and analysis. BIM data changes rapidly throughout its lifecycle. Geographic information system (GIS) data represents environmental, political, infrastructure, and utility information. To meet the velocity requirements of housing and infrastructure, stakeholders need a seamless, integrated view of this widely diverse information. Learn how Esri and Autodesk are collaborating to accelerate the construction of the future.

This case study will follow the creation of the attraction Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment for the new theme park Universal Epic Universe. It will illustrate how Universal Creative, as both designer and owner, is using the full range of Autodesk software and Forma suite to collaborate between teams and bring to life groundbreaking attractions. Creating innovative theme park attractions necessitates the blending of disciplines. Attraction designers incorporate mechanical system animation with digital media, lighting, and visual effects using 3ds Max software—while architects and engineers design and document facility systems in Revit software to meet operational needs. During ride and show manufacturing and general construction, teams constantly monitor installation quality with reality capture methods like LiDAR using ReCap and Navisworks software, validating real-world conditions against the creative intent models and federated BIM, thereby completing the project lifecycle.

Integrating Forma Build software with GAMMA AR has significantly enhanced project traceability, improving the accuracy and credibility of progress tracking. This integration supports asset management across the entire project lifecycle, from delivery to handover. It also strengthens collaboration by connecting stakeholders through digital workflows, reducing reliance on paper, and lowering the project’s carbon footprint. GAMMA AR brings added value to BIM by enabling real-time validation of on-site work, assigning issues to responsible parties, and instantly tracking installation progress. This strategy not only boosts efficiency and productivity, but it’s also expected to reduce documentation workflow duration by up to 25%, marking a key step toward Management in construction. Since all construction documents are stored, linked, referenced, and visualized to all assets, facility manager mobilization time may be significantly reduced by 50%.

At Maire, we’ve successfully integrated Autodesk Workshop XR software into our engineering processes. This integrated platform facilitates model reviews using Meta Quest virtual reality (VR) headsets. Model reviews are critical design phases where engineers meet virtually to discuss project status and coordinate efforts. The use of VR headsets has been particularly beneficial, as it allows designers to immerse themselves in the full-scale 3D model and evaluate design choices effectively. Additionally, the platform enables users to snap and create issues, which can be shared with the team to track and address identified problems. This innovative approach has significantly enhanced our project coordination and design evaluation processes. In the past, we used a VR solution stored on a workstation. Workshop XR is useful in our integrated environment in Autodesk Forma, where we store all our projects. Workshop XR is a part of our workflow in Autodesk Forma with the standard use of documents and design Automation, Integration, & Customization module.

This session will cover advanced techniques our BIM team uses to create customized Revit families, addressing the challenge of needing highly specific, data-rich components. You’ll learn how we use adaptive model families to ensure 2D visualization can be manipulated without affecting the 3D model, which is crucial for accurate documentation and coordination. We'll also demonstrate how these families store critical data (like location) for streamlined scheduling and legend creation. Additionally, the session will detail how we use planting templates to develop scalable families for ERP (emergency response plan) maps. This allows for easy adjustment of component size and visibility, a key factor in delivering clear and understandable security information to clients.

Traditionally, teams rely on desktop tools for coordination (e.g., model visualization, clash detection, and issue resolution). This often leads to a convoluted process with limited access to information. Today, cloud-based tools like Autodesk Forma or BIM 360 software can be used to streamline coordination during both design and construction—ultimately offering greater transparency and improving collaboration among owners, designers, stakeholders, and construction managers. Using real project examples, we’ll explore how to replicate this workflow in the cloud so teams can run coordination and review clashes directly in Revit software—without exporting files to Navisworks software. We’ll also preview the best Revit settings for publishing, sharing coordinates, and building stories. We’ll demonstrate how to combine and align Revit and CAD files per level. We’ll illustrate how to view assigned issues and make changes in Revit. And we’ll review similar processes in Navisworks for those unable to transition fully to the cloud.

Data is no longer just a byproduct of our projects—it’s their very foundation. In the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry, data represents both the memory of our companies and the raw material for future innovation. It transforms experience into insights, enabling us to deliver quality outcomes and pave the way for tomorrow’s AI-driven workflows. How can we make data truly trusted, structured, and seamlessly flowing across teams, tools, and platforms within a robust common data environment (CDE)? To address these challenges, we’ve created an integrated and scalable solution that combines automated auditing, smart visualization, and seamless communication. Our approach ensures consistency, traceability, and quality of BIM data throughout the project lifecycle, and it supports measurable outcomes and benefits to new stakeholders. During the session, we’ll present a real-world project where this solution was successfully deployed and validated. We’ll reveal key performance metrics demonstrating its effectiveness.
