    Description

This class will have 3-4 industry experts discussing how sensors can impact the quality of a point-cloud deliverable. Not all cars are the same, nor are all computers the same, so as an industry, we should not expect all point clouds to be the same. Not only does each unit have varying accuracy specs when compared to another, depending on the settings of said capture device, the accuracy can vary based on each setting. To make things even more complicated, lighting, material reflectivity, angle of incidence, vibration of the building/site, seismic conditions, and many other variables can alter the accuracy of settings. In this class, we will expose some of the snake oil that is being sold as relative versus absolute accuracy. The panelists in this session have more than 1,000 projects of reality capture under their belts, and have served many roles, including laser scanner, technologist, business owner, drone pilot, surveyor, civil engineer, and many other roles.

    Key Learnings

    • Discover which sensors will provide accuracy requirements needed for their projects
    • Discover the difference between relative and absolute accuracy and what it means to your project
    • Understand the different types of sensors used in reality capture
    • Discover which sensor can deliver photos plus point cloud, versus just point cloud
