This class will cover the use of design models, conceptual models, and inventive technology during the preconstruction phase of a project. We will discuss how to utilize a wide variety of Autodesk, Inc., software such as Revit software, Navisworks software, and ReCap software, rendering several different types of deliverables. Topics include using laser scanning and model-based scope clarifications, quantity extraction, value analysis, options analysis, and phasing exhibits. At Mortenson Construction we self perform concrete work, as well as other construction activities, which enables our project teams to control a critical component of our construction schedule that we call The Critical Path. Our objective is to improve our virtual design and construction (VDC) integration by increasing the efficiency of our construction system design VDC and integrated work planning (IWP) processes to drive higher value to our concrete planning and execution process. In partnership with Mortenson, CAD Technology Center has developed a plug-in to Revit software that will yield higher efficiency to our issued-for-construction sheet drawings by eliminating waste in our tedious, manual, sheet-generation tasks. The new concrete pour sequence tool will automate the process and reduce the time and effort needed to deliver high-quality drawings to our field crew (which relies on our output to put work in place). We want to spend less time with non-valuable activities and more time integrating with our concrete crews to drive value and revenue to our projects.

This session will propel users into Revit 2017 software, exemplifying the advantages of using a singular model throughout the preconstruction process. Learn how to go from design intent to fabrication spools using Fabrication Parts in Revit software. In this session you will convert a Revit design model to fabrication parts, make design and coordination changes, define and detail fabrication spools, and create all construction documentation without ever leaving Revit software. The scan-to-BIM (Building Information Modeling) workflow has enabled architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals to efficiently capture, design, and model contextually the as-built environment. Predominantly adopted by professionals in the architectural and built environment, this workflow can also be fruitful to professionals in the civil infrastructure industry. This session will look at applying the scan-to-BIM workflow to roads, zooming in on phases including as-built capture, modeling, and realistic visualization.

This class explores the benefits and items to consider when using point data on the jobsite. Learn where to start, what to do, and what to avoid, in order to realize a more effective project layout workflow. We discuss real-world examples that will assist you in visualizing how your company can use this information to its advantage. Our case studies focus on design-build projects in which Haskell provided self-perform concrete services as well as steel fabrication, including an aviation complex and a biomass facility.

This course is an intro to electronics design using Autodesk EAGLE and focuses on practical electronics for the non-EE.Spend 60 minutes learning about the design and fabrication of the most fundamental of elements in any electronic system, the Printed Circuit Board (PCB).In this course, we will learn what a PCB is and even design our own PCBs from scratch.We will learn the range of modular electronics options available which simplify electronics design and make design accessible for non-engineers.

Air pollution is a global health issue, and affects more than 90% of the world’s population. Our team at University of Colorado Boulder, with support from the Autodesk Foundation, has developed air-quality feedback systems and other environmental sensors to help improve public health around the world. We use engineering technology to address global health problems. In partnership with a team from Autodesk Pier 9, a health-based air-quality feedback system (the desktop lamp featured at Autodesk University’s Factory exhibit) was developed using distance design techniques. Fusion 360 software’s CAD, CAM, and Render workspaces were used to collaboratively design the product with inputs from team members in multiple cities, and the electronic computer-aided design (ECAD) integration with EAGLE software was used to design the open-source circuit board. This class will introduce the field of global engineering, with specific examples of how we use CAD, ECAD, and CAM to rapidly prototype solutions to global health problems, from Rwanda to San Francisco.

Pushing Inventor software data to cloud sounds scary to most Inventor software users. The class will start with how the releases of Connected Design on A360 cloud-based collaboration service in Inventor software are intended to help people collaborate on design shares, with best practices from real customers so far. Then attendees will walk through Inventor upcoming updates, explore the rationale of new features and how they improve the design review conversations, and share whether the updates fit their needs and how via a mini survey. Attendees will also participate in an envisioning of the future of connected design with the Inventor Development Team via interactive LUMA methods like RoseThornBuds and Creative Matrix, helping to define potential needs and shape a healthy Connected Inventor ecosystem for the long term. In this class, we will pull back the curtains on the Civil 3D Pipe Network API using C# programming language within Microsoft Visual Studio. Learn how to enhance the design and production capabilities of Civil 3D software's gravity pipe networks. Basic knowledge of Visual Studio, C#, and Civil 3D gravity pipe networks are prerequisites for this class.

This class will be a presentation of tips, tricks, and workarounds for the Inventor software Tube & Pipe add-in. A powerful design tool built into the Inventor software landscape, Tube & Pipe is the bread-and-butter tool for many designers. We will explore some basics of getting started, and we'll look at some secrets and workarounds for successfully routing and populating pipe runs in this environment. The class will focus on rigid piping, but tips will be applicable to flexible hose and tubing design as well.
