Intended for intermediate to advanced users of AutoCAD Civil 3D software and InfraWorks software, this class is designed to show civil design professionals techniques and nuances for creating a real-time interactive environment of their site designs using Autodesk's Stingray game engine. This class will consist of a live demonstration showing how to create a "world" out of your site design that can be navigated utilizing an Xbox One controller and a virtual reality headset. Specifically, this class will discuss workflow issues the presenter encountered when constructing a one-square-mile simulation of the urban core of Austin, Texas, utilizing only LIDAR (light detection and ranging) and planimetric data.

In this class you will learn how to present and evaluate simulation data for computer-generated and scanned environments by using Autodesk, Inc.’s, latest real-time technology, Stingray software. We will use Autodesk’s cloud offering ReCap Photo software to capture real-world data using drone flights and GoPro, Inc., videos, and we’ll prepare models and textures using 3ds Max software and Memento software. You can use the captured environment for simulation and in-context display of Building Information Modeling (BIM) data sets, which we will present using Stingray—a real-time engine that is capable of not only creating interactive story telling, but can also be used to create virtual reality experiences on mobile, web, and desktop platforms.

This class will focus on how to use Stingray game engine to create optimized VR experiences. By using the available profiling tools to spot bottlenecks, tips and tricks will be shared to tailor content and interactions to get the most out of Stingray game engine’s VR rendering pipeline. Implementing new technologies in a business can prove to be difficult, specially if we don't have a clear idea of the benefits it can provide. This session will cover the why, where, and how to start empowering almost any AEC or product development with the latest real-time 3D visualization technologies. Today, game engines are faster and more powerful than ever, allowing architects, engineers and scientists to visualize, interact and review their projects like they were finished; featuring rich graphics, custom functionalities and real-world scale naturally perceived by using a VR headset. While all that may sound difficult, continuous advancements in 3D tools are making it possible for you to create real-time, VR-ready projects in less time - and in a cost-effective way.

Virtual, Augmented and Mixed really are extremely promising technologies, but their adoption is limited by the availability of content on these platforms.

In this class, we will bring data from different sources (Revit, Fusion, Sketchup, etc.) into the Hololens to be viewed.

Content coming from CAD applications is usually too heavy to be viewed on the Hololens. We will start with defining the key metrics to track for a smooth Hololens experience, set ourselves some specific targets for content and hardware limitations, explore different options, tools and workflows for optimizing content and setup some basic interactions in Stingray (3ds Max Interactive).

Because of the limited availability of the Hololens, this will be an Instructional demo, but we invite you to bring your own Hololens to follow along.

RT/VR has been here for a while, we are all familiar with the different players and we all have been wowed by its advancement in the architectural visualization industry. Now that the dust has settled and the technology is out in the wild, it's our job to discover how to use it in a meaningful way that goes beyond entertainment.



Is RT/VR a tool that will help designers and people in general understand spaces and interact with them in a unique way? If so, where do we go from here?



We will talk about where we are today - and where we want to be in the future. Then, we will walk through exploratory samples that helped us develop some of the tools and to understand its more practical uses that could be provided as a service to our clients. Finally, we will show a few real-world samples of the work we have done to help our clients express their vision.



So, Are we there yet?

In this class, students will learn how Skanska created high-quality, interactive estimates and schedules in virtual reality (VR) by linking external Building Information Modeling (BIM) data sources into Autodesk's Stingray interactive engine. First, we'll demonstrate how Skanska exported BIM data from Revit software into an external data source. Information in the external data source will be organized and sorted. Then, we'll import that information into Stingray in various configurations to create interactive, immersive environments leveraging a repeatable workflow that enables our clients to visualize different design, cost, and scheduling options in VR. As a result, clients will be able to visualize 4D schedules and 5D estimates. They will be able to choose from various design and material options and see the costs associated with them. Finally, they will be able to export the information from Stingray to an external data source. Benefits of estimating and scheduling in VR include realistic design visualization and real-time decision making.

This class will introduce users to the Slate Material Editor in 3ds Max software. Some longtime users are still using the CME (Compact Material Editor), and many new users may find it confusing or overwhelming. This class will break down the parts and functionality of the node-based editor window, and offer many timesaving tips and tricks for creating stunning materials for 3D.

Do you want to add game engines like Unreal Engine or Stingray to your toolkit, but you're not sure what you're getting yourself into? Then this class is for you. In this session, you'll hear from a 20-plus-year 3D expert about his transition from the rendered world to the real-time world. You'll hear about how to make sure your data is relevant to the context of a real-time environment, how to create proper geometry, and what transfers and what doesn't. This class will reveal the realities of the on-ramp to using real-time engines. And you'll gain direction as to where you should and shouldn't be spending your time to make your projects successful and visually appealing.

This class will cover how Mott MacDonald, working with Autodesk consultancy, have been developing our own VR capability using Autodesk technologies.

This class is aimed at architects and engineers with a BIM background but little or no VR experience. We believe VR can add value to every project type and we will give you an in-depth look at the processes and workflows we have used to create VR experiences for Buildings, Transportation, Energy and Water projects.



We will start with the basics; VR hardware and how to prepare BIM models for VR using Stingray, Revit Live and 3DS Max. Fitting for Las Vegas, we will be 'upping the ante' with live demonstrations so we can share with you the variety ways we have brought our designs to life using video game technology, and how this is all possible without writing a single line of code.

By now you've probably heard about the latest trend to take technology by storm: augmented reality (AR). And from what you've read in tech magazines or seen on YouTube, you probably geek out about it like the rest of us. Yeah, virtual reality (VR), AR, and mixed reality (whatever that means) sound and look really cool, like everything we've seen in sci-fi movies is becoming REAL reality. We're approaching the point where we've accepted this idea, but how can we use the technology in a practical sense and actually get some value from these expensive headsets, other than just explaining to owners that it's "super cool?" That is what this session will be all about. We're going to demonstrate the ways and methods that you can use your design models (Revit software), use real information that is updated through BIM 360 software, and take them into an AR or VR environment (using the Stingray gaming engine) and actually view the stuff that matters in the field.

In this session, IKEA will present the challenges of a retailer taking their first steps into virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). We'll look at how high-quality, photographic, computer graphic renderings are created for IKEA's printed and online productions in large volumes, and comprise the base for the VR/AR/MR efforts. And we'll even learn how meatballs fit into the equation. Get to know what kinds of challenges the firm currently faces, and where it's going in the next 10-15 years. You'll get a close-up look at how IKEA is embracing the future of VR/AR/MR with open arms, with the creation of IKEA Digital Lab-a space to experiment, innovate, and build on these technologies.

This class will be an in-depth look at one firm's road into virtual reality (VR) and how we use it as a design tool. The road was unpaved and littered with skeptics and the unknown. Pushing forward led us somewhere unexpected. We'll run through a case study involving upwards of 10 active projects that benefited from and pushed our knowledge of VR. Using a live Vive demonstration, we'll go inside these projects and show how they benefited from this new technology. There will be time at the end for questions, and the opportunity for attendees to get hands-on with our builds. This discussion will include a basic understanding of our workflow, translating models from Revit software into 3ds Max software then into the Stingray gaming engine and also Unity.

Over the past few years Virtual Reality has gained popularity amongst AEC professionals especially Architects. By the growth of devices such as Microsoft HoloLens, Mixed Reality is becoming a new trend in the industry because it enables the user to have interaction with reality as well.

This session is for people who want to see some of the practical applications of this technology.We will showcase the HoloLens Apps that were developed at Baker Triangle Prefab and how we are currently using and planning to use this technology in design review, visualization, manufacturing, quality control and marketing. Virtual Reality is the hot new thing and everyone is rushing to find where it fits in their business and how to leverage it. The reality of virtual reality is if you're already designing in 3D your half way there. In this session we will cover several methods to move data from practically any 3D design system into Virtual Reality. Using Stingray (3ds Max Interactive) and a VR headset such as an Oculus or HTC Vive see your designs in a whole new light.

The construction industry is implementing virtual reality (VR) for planning, design, and construction of projects. This presentation will showcase how VR is helping owners, designers, and contractors better visualize and implement design. Examples that show how VR can make a difference in the industry include planning high-security buildings, jails, airports, and complex medical centers. End users can give feedback on the design and construction of their facilities, which is an important innovation. By using VR, clients get the ability to make changes virtually for free well before actual construction has begun. We'll show how the embrace of VR in construction planning is improving design-it leads to faster project approvals, decreases in the number of change orders, and better projects.
