The Revit 2015 software release introduced the ability to link Industry Foundation Class (IFC) files to the Revit software IFC .NET open source code. This ability enables the Revit software API users who are familiar with IFC to make their own customized versions of not only the exporter and associated user interface, but also the importer. This class will start with a technical overview of the IFC format, including the concepts of schemas and Model View Definitions (MVDs) and how they are used in Revit software. We will then cover the major design concepts for the .NET code, particularly the linker, with the intention of understanding how to make simple modifications to the open source. This class is intended for users who have a decent knowledge of IFC but want to know more about the inner workings of the format and how Revit software implements IFC. The class will look at, but not emphasize, Revit 2015 software IFC open source .NET code and the associated Revit software API.

The Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) for Revit software schema and its related Model View Definitions are finally starting to be adopted across the industry. This class will start with a technical overview of IFC itself, with an emphasis on the new IFC for Revit schema and the new Model View Definitions (MVD) associated with it. We will look at the changes made to the schema since last year, and examine Revit software’s progress in its IFC for Revit certification. We will then take a high-level look at how IFC is supported across the 2017 Autodesk, Inc., products, focusing on Autodesk products that are capitalizing internally on Revit software’s IFC open-source capability. Next, we will take a closer look at Revit software's use of IFC, and attempt to understand the options available when using IFC in Revit software, what they mean, and when you might use them. Finally, the class will look at, but not emphasize, Revit 2017 IFC open-source .NET code and the associated Revit API. This session features Revit and Inventor Professional. AIA Approved

Do you need to share IFC files on your project? If so, this is an essential session for you. We will explore the importance of interoperability from Revit using IFC. Using the IFC Exporter Plugin, we will explore all the hidden settings, controls, and tricks to give you the confidence, and control as to what information appears in the IFC. You will control Rooms, Space, IFC Classes, and Zone. Not all IFC exports are equal.

Since the Revit 2012 release, Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) export from Revit has been based on .NET open source code, enabling Revit API users who are familiar with IFC to make their own customized versions of both the exporter and the associated UI. This class covers the major design concepts for the export code with the intention of understanding how to modify the open source code or how to create a custom exporter on top of the existing exporter. This class is intended for advanced users who know the principals of API development and/or IFC, and it includes looking at Revit 2014 open source .NET code.

This class will start with a technical overview of Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) itself, with an emphasis on the new IFC 4 schema, and the new Model View Definitions (MVDs) associated with it. We will then take a high-level look at how IFC is supported across the 2016 Autodesk, Inc., product line, including several products that have just added IFC capability. Next we will take a closer look at Revit software's use of IFC, and attempt to understand the options available when using IFC in Revit software, what they mean, and when you might use them. Finally, the class will look at, but not emphasize, Revit 2016 software IFC open-source .NET code and the associated Revit software API.

IFC is a lot like ghosts: some believe it is real, and some believe it is against basic laws of nature. This class will make you believe in ghosts. IFC is real, it's there and, if you're a non-US Revit software user, chances are that sooner or later you will be forced to work with it. More and more countries are mandating the use of IFC as a deliverable in government projects. And from there, more and more commercial parties will do the same. For those of us working on such projects, IFC is very real. This class focuses on a practical understanding of IFC and how to work with it in Revit: (1) creating mapping tables for import and export of IFC files, (2) using the available options to override these settings on an instance basis, (3) using and modifying the Open Source Sourceforge IFC Exporter, including how to map parameters to IFC properties and how to create and organize custom data in your IFC file, and (5) modeling tips and tricks for a proper export.

Are you struggling with IFC workflows and found yourself overwhelmed by complex documentations and openBIM project requirements? This session will give you 10 most important things to consider when working with IFC, which will immediately boost the quality and productivity of your openBIM workflows. We will not be discussing theory of the IFC schema or the reasons for openBIM, but will have a look at practical use cases and discuss the more advanced IFC options available in Revit. You will learn to better understand how certain options influence the quality of your IFC data and when you should review certain settings. Among other topics, we will discuss important settings like coordinates, class and property mapping, and analyze the results of different configurations in an IFC viewer. You will leave this session feeling a lot more confident in openBIM workflows and equipped with advanced knowledge which you can immediately start using in your openBIM projects.

Turning point clouds into reliable BIM inputs is still a challenge for many architecture, engineering, construction, and operations (AECO) teams. In this lab, you'll execute a complete, field-tested ReCap Pro workflow that transforms scan data into structured, interoperable mesh models ready for enhanced design and collaboration. Guided by subject matter experts, you'll apply automatic classification to generate clean meshes, standardize outputs using Template Manager, map Revit categories, and export IFC models for downstream BIM use. You'll then use these outputs as modeling references in Revit and validate them through coordination workflows in Navisworks and Model Coordination. Walk away with a repeatable, end-to-end scan-to-BIM process that reduces manual remodeling and accelerates coordination across project teams.

Location—where work happens—is critical for designing, constructing, and managing assets in the built world. This includes locating assets on the ground, defining logical locations for specific work, and locating the definitive digital record expressing the asset. Arcadis, Esri, and Autodesk have been collaborating on techniques to simplify and standardize these concepts, with practical results. This study will help building information modeling (BIM) professionals use shared coordinates between Civil 3D files and Revit software, use Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) 4x3 properties to define IFC locations, and share these locations with geographic information system (GIS) professionals and stakeholders. We'll examine a practical example from a light rail BlueSky project that includes Civil 3D, Revit, and IFC files for ground, alignment, rail, and architectural elements.

Exchanging data from Revit software to other applications is very often a file-based and time-consuming task. In our case, it's typically based on an IFC export from Revit. This IFC file is then imported into another application and the result is imported into Revit by an add-in that reads a text or Excel file. We’ve addressed these challenges with the Autodesk Forge Data Exchange API, exchanging only the necessary subset of data. This API is still in beta and there are two possible cases that we may demonstrate on Autodesk University. The first one is to use the Autodesk Forge Data Exchange API to automatically get the analytical model from Revit, open it in a structural analysis application, do the analysis there, and then send the result automatically back to Revit. The results can then be used to create structural reinforcement and to suggest changes to the model. The other case is based on sending properties data back and forth between Revit and applications that handle building specifications, prices, and sustainability data.

This session will look at a process with an in-house tool developed among other things with Autodesk Platform Services technologies allowing users to inject a Revit /IFC model into Power BI in just minutes, in order to visualize and exploit the data for different use cases (engineering and site work team). In this session, we'll view and export Bill of Quantities, check the data (automatic coloration depending of the value of the data), link to another database as an SOA (schedule of accommodation) to compare with the model and track it, and link to the schedule of the project to do a "4D."

Did you know you can get your keynote data from a database or your company wiki, or that you can share links across multiple users without complicated setups with mapped network drives? This class will teach Revit API users how to use the external resource service to manage linked models and other external data. You will learn how to easily create references to Revit software, DWG™ software, or Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) models that are provided by a Revit plug-in. This can give you more control over how to manage and control access to links. For example, in a work-shared environment, users with different machine setups can still access the same linked data. (Or not access it!) You will also learn how to customize your keynote data and avoid using a keynote file entirely if you wish. We'll also go over some tips and tricks for using links, including some enhancements made in Revit 2018 software.

Collaboration in construction is challenging. How can you organize the quality in data and geometry with all these different parties and models? Which software do you use to check your model: Navisworks or Solibri. An IFC workflow with Solibri provides you insights in the different clashes and the possibility to check in a rule based manner. But how do you create reports and collaborate with team members? Does Navisworks manage a more better workflow with more possibilities for everybody? With Navisworks you are free of file format. It is easy to append and update Revit, IFC, rcp or dwg files to a federated model in one single file. Checking model geometry, duplicates and data in a standardized way with Collaborea. It is the rulebased modelchecker for Naviswork. A report is no longer necessary because all the issues are visible and editable on a Cloud platform using Autodesk Forge. Checking and collaborating becomes easy and editing the models in an Autodesk workflow is simple.
