We’ve extended the Fusion API with powerful new Volumetric Modelling technology. Read on to discover how to access and create with volumetric modeling in Fusion.

Volumetric modeling, also known as implicit modeling, is an alternative method of representing geometry. It’s an approach that’s extremely robust, flexible, and efficient, making it suitable for modeling complex geometries such as lattice structures.

Unlike traditional boundary or mesh representation methods that define shapes by their surfaces and edges, volumetric modeling represents shapes using mathematical functions that describe the entire volume of the object. This implicit representation enables greater stability, particularly when dealing with intricate and highly detailed geometries.

Volumetric Geometry via the Fusion API

By exposing the underlying graph model through the Fusion API, we empower developers and designers to automate and customize their workflows, unlocking new possibilities for innovation. Whether you’re developing optimized heat exchangers, applying continuous 3D textures to surfaces, or exploring entirely new design paradigms, the Fusion API provides the flexibility and control needed to push the boundaries of what is possible in design.

Elevate your design and manufacturing processes with Autodesk Fusion

With the Fusion API, users can script and programmatically control the creation and manipulation of volumetric models, integrating them into broader design and manufacturing processes.

How to get started with volumetric modeling in Fusion

In the May release of Fusion, we have exposed this new functionality as a preview feature. Users with Commercial or Educational licenses can take advantage of these powerful new tools today. In the Fusion API documentation, we have created a new user manual that details what is new and how you can utilize it.

Access the user manual here.

Volumetric Modelling in the Fusion API opens new possibilities for designers and engineers, allowing them to create complex and efficient geometries with ease. Along with Fusion’s advanced additive manufacturing pipeline for volumetric geometry, we’re excited to see what you create with volumetric modeling in Fusion.
