Robot Structural Analysis: A Solid Foundation for Practical Projects
This lab will use straightforward practical examples to teach best practices to new users of Robot Structural Analysis software. The lab is intended for those who have an understanding of structural analysis but are new to Robot Structural Analysis. It will introduce the basic functionality of Robot Structural Analysis, key features, and best office practices for teams working in Robot Structural Analysis. Topics will include, but are not limited to, concrete design, steel design, and composite deck design. Additional topics will address loadings and key strategies for collaboration between Robot Structural Analysis and other Autodesk applications, such as Revit software and Advance Steel software.

Integrating Structural Design and Analysis: The Basics of a Revit-Robot Structural Analysis Professional Workflow
In this hands-on lab, we'll explore the simple, powerful, round-trip workflow between Revit 2018 software and Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2018 software. We'll start with a simple structural model of a building in Revit, and we'll develop an understanding of the analytical model that Revit builds concurrently with the creation of structural geometry. We'll then explore the Structural Analysis for Revit feature, which lets static and gravity analyses be performed in the cloud directly from Revit. Next, we'll push that model into Robot Structural Analysis Professional to perform a basic analysis and code group-based design. Finally, we'll push the updated geometry from Robot Structural Analysis Professional back to Revit and observe that the model has been updated.

Direct Analysis Method in Robot Structural Analysis Professional
This class will review the American Institute of Steel Construction's (AISC) Direct Analysis Method, and we'll look at how it is implemented in Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2015 software. We will cover the requirements of the Direct Analysis Method, and we'll examine the challenges of applying it in analysis and design software. We'll explore analysis examples from actual projects to conduct an in-depth examination of the Direct Analysis Method workflow in Robot Structural Analysis Professional software. Through these examples, we'll review the analysis parameters, the ways to perform the analysis, and the options available to review and validate the analysis results. This class will illustrate the benefits of the Direct Analysis Method and demonstrate the ways that the implementation of Robot Structural Analysis Professional software is efficient, customizable, and user-friendly. We will also discuss how the software considers the code-required stability effects.

Optimizing Structural Analysis with Dynamo
With the new Structural Analysis package for Dynamo software, you may optimize your existing structural workflows or invent some way of doing things. This lab will teach participants how to create structural model inside Robot Structural Analysis software using Dynamo software workflows, and how to set up the calculations model using dedicated nodes and run the computation. To complete the process, you will also learn how to interpret results to build optimized structural systems.

Precast Building Design Using Revit, Robot Structural Analysis, and Dynamo

Precast structures are a prime example of why Building Information Modeling (BIM) is so crucial to engineering professionals. In a typical precast project, there are hundreds of pieces and parts that need to be tracked, ordered on time, and assembled correctly. Revit software offers the perfect medium to do that; however, Revit software by itself cannot yet perform a complete structural analysis and design, but offers some tools to help in doing so. In this class, we will explore the process of creating an analytical model of a typical precast residential building, exporting and running the structural analysis in Robot Structural Analysis software, and then transferring the reinforcing back to Revit software. Revit software and Robot Structural Analysis software are not specifically tailored to tackle all things precast, but the .NET framework and the Dynamo extension make it easier to streamline workflows. We will also look at how to use Dynamo to automate precast drafting and design. This session features Robot Structural Analysis and Revit. AIA Approved

In this hands-on lab, we will explore the new interoperability between Advance Steel 2017 software and Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2017 software. We will begin by exploring a simple structural model in Advance Steel software. We will push that model into Robot Structural Analysis Professional software and perform a basic analysis and code group-based design. Once the design is correct, we will update the Advance Steel model geometry from Robot Structural Analysis Professional and continue the steel-detailing process. In an attempt to win my colleagues over to the Robot Structural Analysis software as a company standard, I ran into what seemed like an insurmountable wall: Robot Structural Analysis software doesn't generate 3D ASCE 7 wind loads! This class will walk you through the process I developed to utilize the amazing Dynamo program to grab element geometry, ask a few questions, and create ASCE 7-10 wind load combinations in Robot Structural Analysis software in an attempt to convince my bosses that Robot Structural Analysis software (React Structures platform) and Dynamo are the way of the future. This session features Robot Structural Analysis, Dynamo Studio, and Revit.

Complex Modeling and Analysis Using Robot Structural Analysis and the API
This class will show you how to use the Robot Structural Analysis software's comprehensive API to simulate complex structural problems and thus improve efficiency and provide feedback loops. We will review several examples where the API has been used to link Robot Structural Analysis software to other software in order to speed up model generation and help create complicated geometry models with a high level of accuracy. We will show you tips, tricks, and effective practices for generating models that run efficiently, and you will discover how to use the API to extract results in order to provide optimization feedback loops. We will also show you how to use such functions as Result Query and Cache in Microsoft Visual Basic to access data within Robot Structural Analysis software. We will use at least 1 example of this type of workflow to demonstrate how quickly you can create scripts to link software such as Grasshopper to Robot Structural Analysis software, and then continue through to Revit software to produce project documentation and images.

In this session, we'll look at a customer reference case of a shopping mall in Norway where Robot Structural Analysis Professional software managed to reduce the planned calculation work from 48 hours to 16 hours. The planned calculation work included optimization of steel frames and trusses, reinforcement calculation, and reaction forces for the piles.

SOFiSTiK Structural Analysis integrated in Revit – Workflow and Advantages
Analyze, Design, Evaluate, Repeat – the process of structural analysis is iterative. However, even in BIM-workflows, this cycle is often conducted in spearate software packages, where the analytical model is created and maintained independently. Redundant input and inconsistencies lead to an inefficient and costly process. As Revit automatically generates the analytical model along with the physical model, integrating structural analysis into a BIM-process gets reasonable and more critical, maintainable. The SOFiSTiK App, Analysis + Design for Revit, extends this concept and enriches the analytical model in Revit with additional properties, like design code specific materials, cross-sections or additional analysis elements. The entire analysis of buildings - from the definition of properties to the design of members and the visualization of results - can be conducted entirely within Revit.

Wind Simulation in Robot Structural Analysis Professional
This class will review the new wind simulation technology available in Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2015 software. We will review the current landscape of code-based wind design (specifically ASCE 7) and we'll discuss the challenges of applying these methods to different structure types. We'll then examine Robot Structural Analysis Professional software's unique computational fluid dynamic (CFD) wind simulation tools, and we'll discuss how they compare to the code-based approaches. Using sample wind simulation models, we will review the wind simulation analysis parameters and the analysis process, and we'll discuss the simulation results. Finally, we'll review the benefits of wind simulation, we'll discuss the ways it can be used to supplement and/or validate code-based approaches, and we'll cover the benefits of wind simulation on workflows and projects.

Composite-Beam-Design Extension in Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2016
This class will review the new composite-beam-design extension available for Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2016 software. To set the stage for the Robot Structural Analysis software demonstration, we will first complete a review of composite-beam-design theory and AISC 360-10’s composite-beam-design implementation and requirements. We’ll then demonstrate how you can access and install the composite-beam-design extension for Robot Structural Analysis 2016 software. We’ll conduct an in-depth examination of the composite-beam-design extension, detailing all of the features and uses by exploring composite-beam-design examples from actual projects. We’ll look at various types of composite-beam configurations, taking each example from analysis and design parameter definition through to reviewing the analysis and design results and reports. This class will illustrate the benefits of Robot Structural Analysis software’s composite-beam-design implementation, and provide guidance on best practices to make the most of this robust tool.
