In this demo, you’ll learn how to create 3D geometry using AutoCAD software’s Solid, Surface, and Mesh tools. You’ll also learn how to create 3D assets for Revit families, Civil 3D and InfraWorks models, Inventor software, and game engines. You’ll edit the 3D objects using multiple editing tools, and export the 3D objects to various software. This class is designed to expand your AutoCAD 3D modeling knowledge.

In this presentation, we shall discover how one of the biggest structural engineering offices in Romania, Popp&Asociatii, leveraged Revit’s key functionalities to model reinforcement in Revit and how Graitec adds-on was used for the detailing part of the rebar cages. Thanks to its dedicated wizards for 3D cage generation, PowerPack for Revit will be introduced to explain how to speed-up rebar modeling for usual standard structural elements. Rebar schedules could be created thanks to highly configurable templates and completed with automatic schemas. The architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is quickly adopting everything virtual design and construction (VDC). In this time of change, the state of MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) coordination is in flux. The best practices for most efficiently utilizing BIM (Building Information Modeling) are still being defined. This class looks at 10 different strategies that you can use to improve the coordination process, but from the perspective of an MEP subcontractor. It is often believed that the coordinator drives speed and efficiency, but this presentation aims to show how a subcontractor can help drive added value. This class will focus on how you can use Revit software and Fabrication CADmep software to achieve a high level of detail (LOD) in the coordination process.

So we’ve already created our shell and modeled our critical systems; now what? Time to add details and use sections to keep track of the minute internals that are easily overlooked. A section lets architects create vertical slices of a complex system to view through surrounding structures. This class will walk through the workflows involving section and elevation views that can be used to improve productivity and reduce errors in building design. We’ll create section and elevation views, and then progress to a live preview of the modifications we make. We’ll then introduce subdivisions to our sections to add visual depth or zoom out as needed. We’ll use the Styles Editor to update our sections and elevations graphically based on set rules. We’ll also learn how to automatically update section/elevation views automatically on drawing open. Finally, we’ll add chutzpah to our drawing with materials, and see how we can automatically apply fill patterns to our designs.

The purpose of this class is to reveal the design workflow for precast elements (walls and slabs) using advanced tools that automate the process of generating precast assemblies, shop drawings, and computer numerical control (CNC). This will help both fabricators and precast detailers to reduce the time spent modeling, generating shop drawings, and producing precast planar elements. This session features Revit.

Precast structures are a prime example of why Building Information Modeling (BIM) is so crucial to engineering professionals. In a typical precast project, there are hundreds of pieces and parts that need to be tracked, ordered on time, and assembled correctly. Revit software offers the perfect medium to do that; however, Revit software by itself cannot yet perform a complete structural analysis and design, but offers some tools to help in doing so. In this class, we will explore the process of creating an analytical model of a typical precast residential building, exporting and running the structural analysis in Robot Structural Analysis software, and then transferring the reinforcing back to Revit software. Revit software and Robot Structural Analysis software are not specifically tailored to tackle all things precast, but the .NET framework and the Dynamo extension make it easier to streamline workflows.
