Hey everyone, we have just released a new update that fixes an issue with opening…
September 28, 2018 Product Update – What’s New
V.2.0.4571
We made a fix in the CAM workspace where apparently none of the information from the “General” tab when creating a tool holder was saved with the newly created tool holder. No name was shown for newly created tool holders in the tool library manager. Now the tool will be given a name and the information in the “General” tab will be properly be saved with the tool on creation.
witawat57 reported some wonkiness around how PCB traces did not appear as canvas images when they pushed from Eagle into Fusion 360. It should have come through, and now it does.
September 17, 2018 Product Update – What’s New
V.2.0.4567
We’ve dropped a new update that added right-click for orbit, improved stability of modeling workflows, as well as fixed issues in the Sketching, CAM, and API.
Usability
🎁 New! Right-click mouse button for orbit
If you’re coming from Tinkercad or other design software that let you rotate or orbit with the mouse right button (right-click hold), then you’ll now find yourself right at home with our new right mouse button orbit option within Fusion 360. Change it by going to Help > Quick Setup or in the navigation section of your preferences.
💪 Fixed: Unisolate was missing from UI Preview
We’ve gotten reports that the Unisolate command had gone missing from the right-click menu in the browser when you are in the Tabbed Toolbar UI Preview. Whoops, our bad. We’ve got a bunch of things we need to clean up there, and this happened to be one of them. Thanks for the catch, it’s now back.
💪 Fixed: Constraints were missing from UI Preview
Thanks to Ex_Machina_Engineering and his forum post, somehow the Fixed and Curvature constraints in Tabbed Toolbar UI Preview also went missing. They must have somehow slipped through our fingers. Now they are also back.
💪 Fixed: ESC key was not working in New Sheet Metal Rule dialog
There was a bug where the ESC no longer closed the New Rule dialog in Sheet Metal. Somehow Fusion 360 ignored it’s own rule when running the new rule command. How ironic. Now pressing ESC closes the dialog like it should.
Stability
👍 Improved! Visibility toggling is now faster
We noticed that it took Fusion 360 a couple seconds to react to whether you were trying to show or hide a complex part via the visibility toggle in the browser. We smoothed out some kinks and now visibility toggling now happens a lot faster.
👍 Improved! Faster Edit Form performance in T-Splines
Now when you initiate Edit Form tool to manipulate your T-Spline body, you should notice that we’ve improved the speed at which the body updates as you drag those manipulators. Should feel more snappier now.
👍 Improved! Surface Stitch stability
We’ve been seeing a large number of crash issues related to stitching surfaces with the Stitch command. Good news! We’ve finally been able to track down the culprit that has been causing all these issues and locked it away for good. Fusion 360 should no longer crash during stitching operations.
👍 Improved! Construction plane reliability
There was a weird issue where if you tried to apply a construction plane on an edge of the part, rotate the plane to a certain angle, then selected another edge, cancelled the command immediately, and proceeded to perform the same actions as before over and over, Fusion 360 would eventually lose patience and give up on you. Not cool. Now it knows to be more patient.
💪 Fixed: Issue with breaking linked sheet metal flat pattern parts and assemblies
If you had a sheet metal flat pattern inserted into an assembly as a reference part, broke the link of that sheet metal part and switched over to direct modeling mode, Fusion 360 got overwhelmed and froze up. We taught it to be more forgiving and now it can handle these changes like a champ.
Sketching
👍 Improved! “Center Two Point Arc Slot” is now called “Center Point Arc Slot”
Why? Because we felt the “two” was too redundant, which consequently made the whole name more wordy. Center Point Arc Slot is just as clear.
💪 Fixed: strange behavior in Rectangular Pattern
We found out that the Sketch Rectangular Pattern was behaving erratically, so we put it through the paces and how it should behave as expected.
💪 Fixed: deleting issue
Along with the erratic behavior mentioned above, we also fixed a crash issue caused by deleting parts of a rectangular pattern based on sketch projections. This is now much more stable.
💪 Fixed: dragging issue related to Arc Slots
There has been reports of weird instances where you weren’t able to drag under-constrained edges of arc slots. We looked at the code found a bug that was hoarding your drag requests and devouring them in big gulps. This bug has been squashed, and you should be able to drag under-constrained arc slots again.
2D Drawings
💪 Fixed: title block issue with non-English characters
We saw reports title block-related issues where non-English names were not displayed correctly in the sheet settings of the Title Block menu, as well as imported DWG title blocks. Sorry about that – both of these issues are now fixed.
CAM
💪 Fixed: “!” appearing all over the Post Processing dialog
Turns out Fusion 360 was really excited that you were using Machine Configurations, so much so that it decided to add exclamation marks “!” in front of all the Post Processing input field headers and titles. How cute, but no, it wasn’t supposed to happen, so we removed them.
💪 Fixed: Dragging issue with Turning Groove tool
We caught a bug in one of our development builds where it caused Fusion 360 to hang when you tried to drag a Turning groove tool with an internal holder type to a Chamfer operation. Good thing we got this one before it got out to the rest of you. Phew.
💪 Fixed: Turning tool editing issue
Mjoconr mentioned that he was running into an issue where he wasn’t able to edit older files with tools setup in them; he was only able to edit new tools that have been attached to the document from the cloud. Upon further inspection, we found that it was specific to Turning tools. We’re happy to report that we got this one sorted – you should be able to edit older documents in the Tool library just fine.
💪 Fixed: NC Code issue around cylindrical engraving
Michaelthompson83 told us that he found an issue in cylindrical engraving where the NC code made the machine miss parts of the intended cutting path, even through the simulation looked like it was following the correct path. Apparently there was some wonkiness in our post processor, which now has been updated and has fixed this issue.
💪 Fixed: Edge break did not work for round grooving tool
We fixed an issue where a Turning:Part operation was not generating the correct toolpath when edge break was turned on and a round grooving tool was used.
API
💪 Fixed: latestVersionNumber issue
Well this was embarrassing. We fixed an issue where latestVersionNumber was returning the wrong version number for the latest document.
💪 Fixed: shx fonts issue on SketchText object
Matt_bucknall reported an issue where he was running into a error message whenever he tried to set the fontName on a SketchText object to any of the single line fonts names (.shx). This is now fixed – single line font name should now work with fontName.
💪 Fixed: documents.open issue
The fine folks at Bommer told us about a regression bug that was causing Fusion 360 to crash on documents.open. Apologies for this disruption guys, this is now working again!

No fan-fare because it isn’t a grand sweep? Re the Browser: THANK YOU for pulling the nail out of the computer screen and nailing the browser to the active window! Now opening the Data Panel doesn’t require us to move the browser every time we need a look into the Data Panel. A 2-step dance, every time, now reduced by 50%. More if you count another 2-stepper, when closing the Data panel, where we non-mathematicians see a 100% improvement! Or did I in my usual oblivion, just blindly stumble into a mode everyone else already knew?
ANY function where the moves can be cut in half is very welcome, even if it doesn’t demonstrate esoteric awesomeness, whose value is frequently limited to a minority of the club. Streamlining the ordinary, usually is a big plus for the majority.

Was this failure inherent to how the Stitch was performed? Rolling through the Timeline and repeating pre-update Stitches- do those features carry some legacy that might be a liability?

-I don’t know if it is just me, but I have had a hard time figuring out how to import parts/ sketches within fusion 360 into an assembly, and export CAD files in DXF form. I am able to export them with ease in the drawing files. I have tried looking at tutorials- with some luck.
-I also was using the Sheet Metal tool and was not able to make a diagonal extrusion.
-I went one the autodesk website for help with figuring out how to change the Title Block and spent a good hour to figuring out how to add the weight of the item. I am not sure if it was Due to the update or not.
If anyone could help with these, it would be greatly appreciated.

TINKERCAD Orbit shortcut…. BEST Feature yet!!!! That was a main reason why I prefer Tinkercad vs Fusion.. The navigation with an Apple Magic Mouse sucks…. Next improvement, add the pan shortcut as well (Shift + right click)….

Loving the TinkerCad orbit feature!!!! many thanks.

You guys are just awesome. Keep it up! 💪

For cosmetic changes thank you. When will you do the CV control of the surface?
You’d better change the engine from ACIS to something else that works better with double curvature surfaces. ACIS takes a very long time to work out complex operations in history and is less accurate with surface mates.
My hope faded…

Another Great Update. I love the “orbit” feature. Many THANKS

Loving the Tinkercad great additional feature. Any chance we can have Hole Call outs added, missing this since I jumped ship from Alibre. The 2D side of matters needs bringing up to speed more than modelling

Hi F360 team,
Thank you so much for all that you do, my job is a lot easier now, I no longer have to use Solid Works nor Master Cam
you guys are the best!

You’re a GOD Autodesk :’)
I’m so Proud of you and your continuous Enhancements. :,))) :’)))))
Keep up ! =)
Please possibly add: “Patterns” like the ones from Autodesk Revit. I asked for it, but no reply about that =(
It’s Truly Important, PLEASE ! -> Not, just for Architecture. Really, Imagine creating a bottle holder that has “those type of complex PATTERNS”. Get it? It’s Important, we need a Feature like this. Thanks :’)

I am getting a problem with “Pattern on Path”. When am giving the length by stretching it automatically giving less length..
Keqing Song
Hey care.snandi, if you’re seeing issues, I recommend you start a thread in our forum with a screenshot of what you’re seeing – this way others can better help you diagnose the issue and you’ll get a response quicker! https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/bd-p/124

I have used SolidWorks and Siemens NX for many years and Creo for the last 8 months.
This update is the best yet. It is smooth, better intuitive artificial intelligence in that it figures what the next step might be. Sketching is where I notice it most. It was very clunky and slow before. Now it is snappier and much faster. When drawing a line it ends creation when I have closed a segment but stays on when sketching open segment. This is more intuitive.
Thank you for the update.

What about Pattern on Path to create multiple features? This often behaves erratically. When using a circle or rectangle as a path, when using a line made up of multiple segments as the path, and when patterning multiple features on a path. Often the problems start when the pattern is edited and new features are chosen. I’d show you the video I recorded with the Screencast tools – but they have a bug lol! (Every time I press copy link to clipboard, all it copies is this: @Variant(

J’ai beau tester d’autres programmes de dessin…. je reviens sur Fusion. Dommage qu’il rouspète pour certains Filets et trop de facettes pour les imports de STL. J’espère que ça va s’améliorer.
I can test other drawing programs …. I come back to Fusion. Too bad he grumbles for some Filets and too many facets for imports of STL. I hope it will improve. (Google Translate)

Hey Autodesk: I have a couple of suggestions of things I would like to see you ad to Fusion 360. My first item on my wish list is the function of inserting components with a quantity selection control. If I am building something that uses the same component multiple times I would like to be able to insert a cluster of how ever many I need instead of just inserting them one at a time, It would be great if I could insert 20 screws in some sort of cluster so I can quickly get them into my assembly file. Right now I have to drag them in one at a time and it is very time consuming. The second could also be a solution to my problem of inserting things into a drawing, a copy function more like AutoCAD. It would be very nice if I could select and item in sketch or modeling mode and copy multiple instances of it. In conjunction with the inserting a component I could just copy that one component and then just use a copy function to drop any number of the instance where ever I need it. The singular nature of Fusions copy and paste function is very slow and inefficient in comparison to AutoCAD. I also had another thought, I wish I had a tool parking lot, or an on deck space. Let me explain. There are times when I am using several tools and I am switching between them multiple times. If I had a parking lot I could just drag the tool there and drop it, pick up another tool and get right back to work without having to end a tool function and open another. It would be like having 3 or 4 tools open at the same time and the ability to make them active just buy grabbing it out of the parking lot. It would make complex operations that require multiple tools much faster. And finally, I was not real happy about the title block update. It killed the functionality of my AutoCAD title blocks and made me manually insert text on every line slowing down my process considerably. The time was very bad because I missed a dead line because everything I had set up to finish a project was killed by this update the night before my deadline and I had to stop my work flow to rebuild all my title blocks in Fusion which are now much more time consuming to fill out. Is it not possible to make Fusion more like Studio Max where it is just an platform that allows you to ad or subtract “Plug-ins” to customize the work space to better suit the users needs? If that was the case I could have just taken out the Title Block plug-in and not had so many problems at a critical time. In general, Fusion adds a lot of functions and abilities that I had always wanted added to AutoCAD. It is a very powerful program and does increase productivity greatly. While I am thinking about it can you also give us more control of the Rendering Functions? I would love the ability to control the render to be much more like Studio Max. Thanks!

And yes I am saving “D’s” because I will need a lot of them later…Add… LOL

My browser window looks nothing like your illustration, and nothing like it used to. With the new update I can only see three items at a time, and the names get completely cut off (I only get ‘…’), so I can’t see even if it’s a body or a sketch, making it absolutely impossible to find anything! There is a teeny tiny scroll bar on the side, and I can’t find any way to expand the view.

Love this software! Hate this software! But mostly love 🙂
So many wonderful treats around every corner. The amount of trouble I can get (and corners I have painted) myself into is directly proportional to how many things Fusion360 can do. My workflows are crap, so that’s a user problem, but as a result, I occasionally end up with vertical kilometers of components (before sorting them into assemblies) that require a LOT of browser scrolling. The wheel on my mouse has asked me to ask you wonderful folks at Autodesk to give us a fatter/wider easier-to-grab scroll bar to the left of the browser.
Thanks!!!

Right click orbit made my day! Now just need ANY type of shortcut for pan that isn’t restricted to middle click… for us apple magic mouse users. Pretty please!

Please fix the “layout grid disappearing” issue. Driving me crazy!!
prichards@wi.rr.com
HI Again, I asked several people in your booth at IMTS about this and only really got blank stares and ‘try talking to that guy’ responses. PLEASE, can we get some type of definitive response on this question: When will tapered threads be offered? BSPT, BPT, Custom, etc….
Thank you in advance.
Keqing Song
Hey there, thanks for the question! We’re working on the development of it right now. We are testing the workflow and working on the Drawings functionality before releasing it; we don’t have a definitely date yet but it is definitely in progress and we’ll keep you posted when this is dropping.
prichards@wi.rr.com
Thanks. I really appreciate it.

Dear Developers! I would have a question. When can I take dimension from the sketches to the drawing views? (like in Creo parametric) It would be very helpful for fast and competitive designs, and also would be lighter to do a fast drawing change or a correct dimension chain. Except this missing function it is a perfect software. Thanks.
Frizztastic
Dev Team,
I have been running Fusion 360 for several months now and I am excited with the frequency of the updates and the effort that is placed on the communication from the dev team and the Fusion Community. I have notice for some time now that in the 3D Adaptive Toolpath under the Rest Machining section the Source drop down is missing some of its named options. It says that they should be there but when you go to select lets say “From Tool”. Maybe I am not going about this the right way but if you could look at this and let me know if I am not approaching this properly.
Thanks!!!
Igorva

Does anybody else have the issues of the layout grid disappearing all of the time?
