This class will expand your learning with VRED Design and introduce you to preparing a scene to use in virtual reality. We will cover scene considerations, data optimisation, and workflows to utilise VR for design review with animation, interactions, and collaboration. We will show how to utilise VRED presenter as a platform to share your visual rich interactive designs.

This class will concentrate on how 3D model data from Autodesk Inventor can be consumed within Autodesk VRED Design. The main areas of focus will include: 1) basic principles for import and scene setup; 2) how material definitions can be automatically mapped; 3) using the capabilities of VRED to run successful design reviews and drive a point of sale configurator; 4) how model changes can be managed; 5) creating simple animations and importing complex mechanism clips via 3ds Max; 6) how the information can then be interacted with using the native support for virtual reality.

How to enable efficient design decisions with VRED S/W

Design review sessions are an essential part of product development for everything from automotive to architecture to manufacturing. It is essential to bring together stakeholders and experts from all disciplines—including design, engineering, and manufacturing—early in the design process. Visualizing prototype designs in VRED software in real time has been invaluable in discovering potential issues and delivering better products on a faster cycle. We have developed a set of design review tools implemented in Python inside of VRED to enable work sessions to be more effective and create a documentation trail for concrete decision making without resorting to as much physical prototype construction. Using ray tracing, VRED can enable reliable review of design details, especially glass, mirrors, and metals. Real-time remote collaboration enables participation from far-flung departments around the world without requiring travel. This session will explore case studies and demonstrate these capabilities.

This class will look at how Alias software and VRED software enable the design and visualization of heavy machinery and equipment.

This class teaches the common workflow process used in VRED Professional software to create high-quality, real-time renderings that realistically visualize design ideas. The class will begin by opening a native VRED (.vpb) design model as a real-time rendering in the default OpenGL render method. Students will learn to optimize the model by fixing the geometry and using Scenegraph to organize the parts. We will assign VRED Professional software materials and we will modify them to dress up the geometry so that the visual display is enhanced and the realism is improved. Finally, we will modify the render setting options to obtain a high-quality rendering, and then we will create an image for presentation. The class will finish with a brief discussion about the raytracing render method and how it creates renderings with physically correct lighting, reflections, refractions, and shadows.

This course will provide an overview of VRED Professional software’s API, with a focus on how to create custom user interfaces. Topics will include the various VRED software products and the level of API support for each; an introduction to Python scripting programming; instructions on how to use the VRED Professional software’s API; and instructions on how to integrate your Python code into VRED Professional software. We will also cover what's new in the VRED Professional 2016 software’s API; an introduction to PySide software; an example of VRED Professional software custom user interfaces using PySide; and how to control VRED Professional software from a web browser, as well as other topics.

Realistic light simulation is increasingly becoming more important to the design process, whether it’s used to support the design of a car’s head and tail lamp clusters, or to assess how lights can be distributed around the interior of a railway carriage to support brand identity, or to light a room in a building. This class with shed light onto these topics, describing how you can use the various features of VRED software to achieve different lighting effects. Among other topics, attendees will learn how to differentiate between the various ray trace modes and how to use light simulation data, and they will discover the importance of the realistic modeling of materials to the overall scene visualization. In this class we will work through a car lamp example with various significant design and engineering characteristics like LEDs, light guide elements, and multicomponent cover glass.

This one-hour demo will show the design of a track shoe from sketch to render. We will show the process of sketching in Sketchbook and bringing the work into Alias software. Once in Alias, we’ll compare NURBS modeling workflows and how the new Subdivision modeling in Alias 2020 is better suited for concept modeling. The main portion of the demo revolves around how Dynamo, Sketchbook, and Alias work together to help designers ideate procedurally designed tread for the soles. Once the sole is complete, the shoe is brought into VRED software to create photorealistic marketing-level renderings.

This course will guide through the first steps of doing high-end visualization using VRED Professional software, and we will explore the capabilities of the software. This session features VRED Professional and VRED Render Node. AIA Approved

This class will teach you the basics of Autodesk VRED real-time visualization software, and afterward you should be able to import and stage any vehicle. Dawn McArdle will demonstrate first-hand the simple workflows and tips and tricks gained from hours of her experience. You will learn this program quickly and should be able to immediately implement it with confidence. Using provided 3D vehicle files and 2D texture files, you will learn how to navigate, import, and prepare the vehicle model, assign materials, and set up lighting/shadows. Students will set up moving parts on the vehicle, and animate the camera. Some camera effects, such as depth of field and motion blur will be demonstrated. Finally, we will pull it all together by setting up variants (key-prompted commands to show variations during presentations) and output rendered images, with an understanding of the many options available for openGL and raytracing.

The presentation will show a live demonstration of the workflows used for creating an animation in 3ds Max software and in Maya software, including how to prepare them and export the data in order to import them into VRED software for doing a real-time visualization. The live demonstration will show examples of classic keyframe animations, cloth-like vertex animation, and character animation from 3ds Max software and Maya software to VRED software.

Alstom uses VRED Professional software to produce high-quality imagery for project communication, as well as real-time-experiences production for design reviews and communication movies, enabling a single-visualization digital mockup. Meanwhile, Alstom also needs to make sure its designs reach a broader population that includes external teams and individuals, and from this perspective, the communication production workflow is provided by Stingray game engine. This talk will describe the collaboration between Alstom and Autodesk, Inc., to build a VRED data workflow that capitalizes on Stingray game engine as an output source for their designs, consequently extending the reach of their project communication capabilities.
