Water distribution models are used throughout the world to provide customers access to clean, reliable drinking water, as well as sufficient pressure for fire suppression in emergencies. These models are only as valuable as they are accurate. The old process of updating the model every five years for a master plan is outdated and inefficient. The infrequent updating is a byproduct of the many sources of data needed to update your model. Using built-in tools for InfoWater Pro and incorporating telemetry data from Info360 Insight, we will walk through some of the many workflows that are involved in updating models and we’ll explore how much faster they can be accomplished with the right tools. Additionally, we will discuss the important analysis being done with water distribution models and how outdated models can be costly in social, environmental, and financial ways.

This class will teach the basics of establishing distribution systems in Revit software using criteria-based equipment selection via the LayoutFAST plug-in. We'll look at how we can easily insert real-world equipment families into a Revit model, and how to establish distribution systems. We'll also cover the importance of circuit data within a model, and how we can use that data for design decisions and efficient project completion.

The AppBundle used for distribution is now being widely adopted by Autodesk products as a way to standardize the format across software products. It enables you to easily package an app or plug-in to be loaded in many different products and versions. It is the recommended format to easily bundle together the resources, and manage its description, configuration, and compatibility. We will cover the format and structure of it, and how it is being used by the App Store to distribute apps, plug-ins, tutorials, and content. We will learn the structure and properties of an AppBundle, keeping in mind that it is compatible with most of the Autodesk products, like Maya software, 3ds Max software, AutoCAD software, Revit software, Inventor software, Navisworks software, Fusion 360 software, and BIM 360 software. It is also the format adopted to run remote jobs with the Forge Design Automation API on the server side. This packaging practice is also beneficial for apps or plug-ins installed in local systems.

GDF SUEZ Energy Romania specializes in providing natural gas to over 1.3 million consumers, all through an immense and intricate pipeline network covering 16,000 kilometers. In 2007, GDF Romania embarked on creating a new and more efficient network for the natural gas pipeline. Initiated from scratch and managed with the company’s internal resources and equipment, the collection of field data related to the pipeline distribution would take two years to complete and would be contained within a single, centralized database. The team made extensive use of AutoCAD Map 3D Enterprise software (formerly Topobase™) in regional offices, created a web platform on Autodesk® Infrastructure Map Server to share the information across the company (more than 600 users), and worked closely with Autodesk Consulting to create the best and safest asset management system possible. This class will help you to better understand the challenges and the key factors of this successful implementation.

In this class, we discuss how we implemented AutoCAD Utility Design software at Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU). We cover strategies for implementing the software to include processes, from design to asset realization. We cover AutoCAD Utility Design standardization, uniform processes and data flow, and how we incorporated them into upstream and downstream workflows to produce reliable engineering designs. CSU is also implementing the system for gas distribution design.

In this class participants will learn how to maximize the use of AutoCAD Map 3D software source drawings in a multiuser CAD environment. We will talk about supplying the DWG� geographic information system (GIS) CAD format for users' business needs. We will also cover the process of building source drawings from Oracle Spatial sources, and we'll discuss the distribution of source drawings across a WAN DFS system. Finally, we will cover source drawings and the mobile CAD user.

Operational digital twins link real-time IoT data with digital representations of real-world processes to model what is happening and to optimize what is going to happen next. In 2021, Autodesk acquired Innovyze’s industry-leading water modeling solutions along with the Info360 SaaS platform delivering an operational digital twin for water catchment, treatment and distribution. Info360 joins together water simulation models used by most utilities worldwide with cloud technology, IoT monitoring, machine learning, AI, and physics-based modeling techniques to create a dynamic digital twin for the entire water processing cycle. We will demonstrate Info360. We will review trends in operational digital twins and how simulation models can move to the cloud to enable real-time simulation. We will review machine learning and AI modeling approaches that are being used to optimize in real time. We will assess the challenges in deploying these systems, and what you should do to prepare.

Electrical distribution system modeling, analysis and calculations are often accomplished in a disjointed fashion, making it difficult to manage project changes, and with limited ability for BIM integration.  Adopting a new workflow to avoid this can be tricky, and often there is resistance to take the plunge required to re-tool the workflow.  In this case study, we’ll learn what considerations and assessments one MEP firm took before re-engineering their electrical schematic and conceptual design workflow. Several new features in Revit 2023 helped to make the change possible, including the use of Analytical Objects, in tandem with real-time calculations and synchronous diagram modeling provided within the Advanced Electrical Design for Revit extension. We’ll consider what advantages there are with integrating diagram modeling data with the Revit model, how integrated analysis helps to optimize design, and what other tools could support a project’s electrical engineering workflow.

This class will demonstrate how to get started with BIM 360 Project Management—set up your project, walk through entire RFIs and submittals workflows (submission, management, review, and distribution) and learn useful tips and tricks.

In this hands-on lab, you learn to use the tools and capabilities of the new Populate feature in 3ds Max and 3ds Max Design. Together, we will put in walk flows and idle areas, adjust flow points and segments, create ramps, and dial in densities, distributions, and direction.

Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) is a very important feature of a modern, international airport complex. Expansion of airport is aimed at design and construction of additional buildings and facilities to service growing international and domestic passenger traffic. Baggage reclaim hall on the arrival side and check-in hall on the departure side are large volume spaces in PTB, requiring proper distribution of conditioned air for adequate human comfort. In this class, how Autodesk CFD is used to evaluate air-conditioning design is presented. Importance of airflow and temperature distribution from CFD results is highlighted to ascertain indoor air quality and thermal environment. Strategies for modeling airflow and heat transfer are detailed out with best practices for flow and heat load characterization. Challenges of unacceptable thermal environment (hot spots) are addressed through design changes and optimization of supply flow rates and discharge angles, resulting in better designs.

How does a team with a great idea for a new hardware product navigate the challenges of prototyping, sourcing, testing, validation, contract manufacturing, production scaling, distribution, logistics and retail. This presentation aims to capture some objective numbers on what it takes to start a scalable hardware business.

Modeling a water distribution system has always been a tedious process. AutoCAD Civil 3D software offers tools that will greatly assist you with this process. For horizontal layout as well as vertical layout, Civil 3D can model just about any situation you will run into. In this class, we see how to create a 3D model of our water distribution system, edit the system to account for those design changes, and analyze it for design errors. Note that this class does not get into hydraulic analysis.

At Southern California Edison (SCE), we have standardized and obtained efficiencies in our design and engineering processes by using AutoCAD Utility Design software as our transmission and distribution graphical design tool. This class will present the approach used to unify our design process using AutoCAD Utility Design, beginning with external work management through the workflow and ending with the validation of the design and bills of materials that are being sent to an external work management system. Along the way, we will discuss accessing external mapping/GIS and SAP® asset information within AutoCAD Utility Design and as well as the tool's ability to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements throughout the design process. With an emphasis on realizing the benefits of an IPSEC-based (Initiate, Plan, Schedule, Execute, Close) work order lifecycle, we will also discuss SCE’s solution to transmission and distribution design interactivity through our estimating and material ordering phases and our approach to eliminating the need for manual entry directly into our SAP enterprise resource planning systems (ERP).

In this class, you’ll discover a set of high-end effective tools to optimize, design, and detail RC shear walls and slabs within a BIM platform such as Revit software. You’ll discover firsthand how to store seismic results and theoretical reinforcement values in Revit and use them to design and detail shear walls and groups of shear walls, optimize the fabrics distribution over an entire slab, and manage additional bars around openings. After having created and optimized the 3D rebar model based on design-driven rebar cages and reinforcement areas, we’ll go through the detailing part generating corresponding fabrics and rebar schedules, and we’ll see how we can manage the bars splitting to consider fabrication and transportation constrains and generating the final reinforcement drawing. Compression molding is one of the earliest forms of molding. It is typically used for thermoset materials, but can be used with thermoplastics. The advantages of compression molding include more isotropic fiber distribution, dimensional stability, and surface finish. Compression molding can also support large part sizes, and it has a tendency to produce fewer knit lines. Injection-compression molding is a combination of injection and compression molding. The process keeps the advantages of injection molding and combines them with the advantages of compression molding. In this class, we highlight the advantages and limitations of both processes. We also discuss, in detail, the implementation of the processes using Autodesk® Simulation Moldflow® Insight software.

Flexible and easily configured, Vault software can be used in many ways within an electric utility. This lecture reviews the existing Vault software uses at utility customer sites. We will also discuss the potential uses for Vault software to manage utility standards, substation design projects, and transmission and distribution design projects. In particular, this session will explore how we can use the various configuration capabilities—such as categories, user-defined properties, and lifecycle states—to tailor Vault software to meet specific utility requirements. There will be time for questions and answers regarding ideas and options for Vault software uses in participant utilities, and we will discuss integration with existing Software Solutions.

You've created design using utility design software, but now you wonder if you can exchange the model data with advanced engineering tools to enforce regulatory and integrity checks. This lecture will attempt to show you how to integrate a utility model used for distribution, transmission, and substation into advanced engineering tools like O-Calc, SPIDA, Robot Structural Analysis software, and Advanced Steel software. We will also discuss the capabilities of APIs to exchange data between design and analytical tools so that you can plan your integration and extend your utility's workflow without copy/paste data.

This talk will focus on recent work on how to build immersive experiences with support for collaboration.We will focus on three aspects of collaboration:A) Capture of human (e)motion B) visualization of captured data C) network distribution of data.We will illustrate these aspects using prototypes that we constructed over the past year.And we will demonstrate how these prototypes led to various pilot projects and how they utilize Autodesk Forge.
