Over the last few years, as we build toward a more resilient future, there's been a tremendous increase in the demand for renewable power, ports of entry, infrastructure, logistics facilities, and manufacturing. However, as the projects have grown in scope, so has the owners' need to receive a higher standard of work from architects, engineers, and builders. This session will address the importance of data governance in mission-critical projects and how it can lead to successful project delivery. We'll understand what owners expect for delivery from traditional and innovative formats like digital docs and signed-off model content. We'll also discover what it takes to meet delivery expectations when the owner specifies a deliverable but doesn't necessarily know the exact outcome. If you want to know what it takes to deliver successfully with lessons learned in the trenches, then join this session!

While the advent of building information modeling (BIM) brought the promise of common ways of working, joined up delivery teams, and connected data sets, it also introduced a new language, complex standards, and siloed BIM experts. These have since been wrapped into an international standard in the form of the ISO 19650 suite. While ISO 19650 has been in place for a number of years, uptake has been mostly seen in our London office. But recently, we've seen it emerge in our U.S. studios. This class will explain the fundamentals of ISO 19650; explore what it means to owner, designer, and constructor; and discuss how to align with a strategic and pragmatic approach rather than mandating verbatim. Having led project BIM processes for well over a decade, Perkins&Will has gained insight, experience, and understanding regarding what does and doesn't work for a range of clients across different sectors. This class will leave you armed with a firm knowledge of what is important when adopting ISO 19650 without needing endless added hours to ensure alignment.

The alarming trend of schedule and cost overruns in conjunction with unprecedented market forces has led to a demand for innovation. Among these results, there has been tremendous progress in the elimination, through automation, of the 4.2% of total capital expenditure that—according to NIST GCR 04-867, National Institute of Standards and Technology U.S. Department of Commerce Technology Administration—is the result of poor project handover. With the Forge platform, as much as 40% of engineering time can be eliminated by enabling rapid access to current project information for engineers, vendors, fabricators, and other stakeholders. Forge software has also enabled digital workflows for lists, reports, logs, scheduling, requests for information, and construction planning during the engineering and design phase, which has, in turn, led to automated construction work packages. You’ll hear about these amazing developments in this lecture.

The Fusion Lifecycle implementation has been finalized and your users are navigating the system—so what's next? How do you handle managing the ongoing support requirements and demands from your users for new features or issues? Whether this is a new or mature tenant, ignoring and remaining complacent in acknowledging and managing those requests for support may lead to adoption challenges and grievances with the system. In this class, we will cover the creation and administration of such a process, and share lessons learned from case studies on how this process is working for customer tenants today.

This session will present how an enlightened building owner (The Ohio State University) has successfully partnered/collaborated with both a Building Information Modeling (BIM)-savvy architect and contractor to develop a BIM project delivery standard that enables the model to serve as a single source of truth for relevant spatial and asset information throughout the building lifecycle. This delivery standard has truly begun with the end in mind by taking advantage of the knowledge gained from the BIM for the existing buildings portion of the Buckeye BIM Initiative. We'll highlight how the .RVT portion of this deliverable will work in collaboration with Revit software's COBie Toolkit-structured data to facilitate its utilization in asset management, space tracking, geographical information system (GIS), and sustainability. Lastly, we will highlight the need to implement Technology Solutions and workflows to enable the use of the model across the university and to support interoperability with other data systems.

This follow-up round table will provide an opportunity for Autodesk University attendees to discuss the value of Building Information Modeling (BIM) from an owner's perspective with the authors of The Ohio State University Buckeye BIM Initiative following their 'Defining a Holistic Owner-Driven BIM Project Delivery Standard' presentation. While a BIM standard that outlines a BIM-enabled project delivery process can be extremely valuable to an owner, it can become exponentially more worthwhile when that standard is able to outline the critical spatial and asset information that needs to be captured at turnover to better operate the facility throughout its lifecycle. This round table will provide an open forum to discuss which facility information can provide the greatest return on investment for owners. We'll also discuss how an owner can prescribe a methodology for project teams to collaborate through BIM-based technologies while developing a repository of relevant building data that grows throughout the design and construct phases of a project.

Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a shortcut for that? Have you ever asked yourself, “I wish there was a faster way to do this in Revit software”? Well, there probably is. This session will help intermediate-to-advanced Revit users discover all the keyboard shortcuts you wished you knew, especially for those tedious tasks that you perform over and over again. You will become more familiar with the out-of-the-box (OOTB) Revit shortcuts that may not be obvious, while learning a method to think about what shortcuts should be used for which task. In addition to OOTB Revit shortcuts, you will learn how to create your own custom shortcuts for when OOTB just isn’t enough. BIM managers will learn how to deploy standard shortcuts, and end users will learn how to import custom shortcut lists. You can expect to discover how to have fun using the Revit OOTB shortcuts, and learn how creating custom keyboard commands can drastically increase productivity and efficiency.
