Why This Kenya-Based Design and Build Firm Moved to Revit
BuildX Studio designs and builds spaces that promote dignity, health, and environmental comfort in Kenya. Time and cost efficiency are key to keeping up with the pace of rapid development in the region. With the introduction of Revit software, the industry has experienced a digital revolution allowing for multidisciplinary worksharing through central models hosted on an individual firm’s local access networks or through Forma Design Collaboration software. Recently, BuildX conducted a survey to determine whether it should migrate its entire design team from AutoCAD software into Revit. We used two projects for comparison. Through a short time-lapse video, you’ll see firsthand the two-times more efficient process with Revit. A housing project in AutoCAD took 3,115 hours, while a similar project in Revit took just 1,478 hours. Workflow Upgrade: Transitioning to Model Coordination
This session will cover the "bare bones” setup of a Forma Data Management central file-sharing site with granular permissions for use by a construction team during building information modeling (BIM) coordination. A builder's construction technology manager will demonstrate how Autodesk Collaborate supported by Autodesk add-ins can be used as a shared on-demand syncing tool for teams that still favor Navisworks Manage to run clash detection between a diverse mix of trade partners working both in and out of the cloud. Autodesk technical experts will provide supplementary advice along the way to show how teams can make use of new features in the Autodesk Forma environment to take this strategy to the next level by removing roadblocks seen in previous versions of the product.

Getting Started with Autodesk Forma
We all have to start somewhere, and getting started is often the most difficult endeavor of all. In this class, we'll begin at the beginning, and look at how anyone can get started with Autodesk Forma. Come and see how the platform is more than just a construction tool for organizing and sharing project data. We'll look at Forma Data Management software and see how it may be used as a common data environment (CDE) that follows ISO 19650 procedures and respects the information management method defined in the standards. With Autodesk BIM Collaborate and Forma Design Collaboration, we can work collaboratively with Autodesk Forma. Also, we’ll take a look at Forma Build software's toolset for the management of all of our project information, as well as Forma Takeoff software's real-time estimation view.

Digital Transformation from Traditional Design Deliverables and Coordination to Cloud-Based Design Collaboration

This case study explores how digital transformation happens, starting from the traditional design process and moving to Autodesk Forma using building information modeling (BIM) tools. It also identifies challenges, the importance of education and training, and the short-term and long-term benefits. The major challenge is the lack of capacity and capability, lack of a common platform, absence of standardization, inconsistencies in workflow and processes, and loss of information. We initiated the transformation by redefining the workflow processes, bringing Autodesk Forma, standardizing design language and deliverables, creating libraries, and training. This increased adaptation, leading to an increase in efficiency of model development, peer review, design collaboration, design management, and approval by all stakeholders. We were also able to define roles and responsibilities, ensure version control across all stakeholders, and review clash detection, thus improving on-time efficiency, accuracy, and quality of the deliverables by sharing information and collaborating.

Breaking Down the Silos: Enhancing Interoperability Between Rhino and Revit
In the architectural and engineering world, it's a challenge to integrate Rhino software for early design stages with Revit software for detailed design, collaboration, and documentation. Rhino excels in modeling intricate geometries. Revit has powerful information modeling capabilities. Revit is commonly used as the primary delivery platform. Bridging these platforms is critical for optimizing productivity. Our approach uses data exchange, through Dynamo, to seamlessly connect Rhino and Revit. We'll showcase how this integration facilitates fluid geometry exchange between the programs, and empowers users to generate native model elements directly from Rhino geometry in Revit. We'll explore precise data-structuring techniques, and provide invaluable tips for achieving seamless interoperability. Beyond technical details, our session will highlight broader benefits for architectural practices, including enhanced project collaboration, streamlined design processes, and expedited decision making with Autodesk Forma at its core.

Delivering Digital Business Case for Change & Predicted ROI. Saving £4.5m
Imagine asking your board for one of the largest digital investments to date operating as a leading UK contractor in an industry well known for slow digital uptake. We put forward our business case three years ago predicating a 20% productivity gain. Our deployment of Forma Design Collaboration is one of our most successful digital transformation projects, with 46+ projects and 1,400+ users engaged. A recent study across our multidisciplinary stakeholders comprising of architects, designers, supply chain, and a variety of general contractor staff has shown that 85% of users confirmed improved collaboration across all functions, team members, and functions; 91% of users confirmed improved visibility and understanding of design information; 77% confirmed the technology has improved design productivity and efficiency; and 86% would recommend the use of the tools to others. We will share details on how we built our business case and predictions, and how we delivered on this to create change in the industry.

Autodesk Forma Migration Made Easy
Transitioning your AutoCAD/Civil 3D projects to the Autodesk Forma platform can seem overwhelming, especially for small to mid-sized companies. In this case study, we’ll explore how Crozier Consultant Engineers successfully migrated both new and existing projects to Autodesk Forma (Forma Data Management, Forma Design Collaboration). For many companies, shifting from a Windows-based file system to Forma Data Management is a relatively new experience. We'll examine the benefits of working in a cloud environment, and the challenges of moving existing projects to the cloud. Additionally, we'll explore best practices for this transition and the tools that can facilitate the process.

Autodesk Model Coordination for Design and Construction Streamlines Process
Traditionally, teams rely on desktop tools for coordination (e.g., model visualization, clash detection, and issue resolution). This often leads to a convoluted process with limited access to information. Today, cloud-based tools like Autodesk Forma or BIM 360 software can be used to streamline coordination during both design and construction—ultimately offering greater transparency and improving collaboration among owners, designers, stakeholders, and construction managers. Using real project examples, we’ll explore how to replicate this workflow in the cloud so teams can run coordination and review clashes directly in Revit software—without exporting files to Navisworks software. We’ll also preview the best Revit settings for publishing, sharing coordinates, and building stories. We’ll demonstrate how to combine and align Revit and CAD files per level. We’ll illustrate how to view assigned issues and make changes in Revit. And we’ll review similar processes in Navisworks for those unable to transition fully to the cloud.

In WME, how we make use of BIM 360 for various design process and stages like design collaboration, design review, transmittal creation and Issues management. These features are helping us to collaborate within our team and with external parties. We use various workflows for design collaboration, reviews and issues management for the effective collaboration. We use Desktop connector for Navisworks and CAD files. Now we are exploring model coordination and the new feature of Naming convention standard as per ISO standard. We are enjoying and exploring more on new features from Autodesk.

Advanced Bridging in Autodesk Forma
As a virtual design and construction (VDC) manager for a general contractor (GC), one of the largest headaches is making sure your subcontractors get their models uploaded to your Autodesk Forma hub on time, and that they're named correctly and in the right format to make Model Coordination work seamlessly. What if it didn't have to be that way? If your subcontractors also happened to be working in Autodesk Forma, it doesn't have to be. What if they just published their own models internally and all the sharing happened automatically? This class will cover how to use the Bridge tool in Autodesk Forma to enable automatic sharing of models between Autodesk Forma hubs to streamline model coordination. Not only will we cover how to share models from the subcontractor's hub to the GC hub and then on into your coordination NWF, but we'll also show you how to share models from one subcontractor to another to enable direct coordination between subcontractor Revit models.

Collaborate Like a Pro Using Revit and AutoCAD Plant 3D in the Cloud
Multidiscipline collaboration is key when using different tools for each discipline. Forma Design Collaboration software helps different teams that are using different design tools from different locations to coordinate design and engineering work more easily and efficiently. We’ll solve the challenge of combining Revit software for architectural, structural and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) design and AutoCAD Plant 3D software for industrial piping design. We’ll share specific workflows using Autodesk Forma that address both simple sharing needs (for consultants and owners for example) as well as co-authoring controlled and coordinated design.

Through various project delivery methods and contracts, the owner mandates the use of Revit software and Autodesk Forma. This panel session will discuss the digital transformation happening within the capital improvement program at an international airport. We’ll cover how owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and trade partners all work together to collaborate with their intelligent models in the cloud. We’ll have an open dialogue about lessons learned and what improvements can be made in the future. We’ll will focus on the use of design models, trade models, coordination models, owner-mandated metadata, and the BIM execution plans.
