We’ve been working on concrete measures to make HQ-initiated digital transformation work on site in real projects. Understanding the capability of new technologies, we’ve started working closely with Autodesk to realize what we really want on site. When we tried to implement new technologies into the actual workflow, we faced various obstacles, both small and large. But we had to solve all of them. After numerous trials and errors, we’ve dramatically changed our way of working by moving all drawings and documents from paper to electronic (PlanGrid), moving data from local to cloud (BIM 360), and transforming 2D drawings into 3D models and virtual reality (VR). Our work efficiency related to drawings has improved by 30%, and we’re now also able to produce valuable outputs for our clients. We’ll talk about the challenges and possibilities for the future from a realistic point of view, because we are the people in charge at the site.

Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) is the gold standard for planning and executing capital construction projects and has been proven to deliver superior results in safety, schedule, and budget. This discussion involves a case study of how an EPC provider, APTIM, implemented AWP practices, selected software packages to support workflows, and leveraged internal stakeholders to drive adoption. The pace of key workflows such as workface planning and creation of installation work packages was immediately accelerated by the use of a platform of point solutions which includes iConstruct and BIM 360 for work packaging and the use of PlanGrid to visualize the work packages and drawings in the field. The involvement of stakeholders such as middle management and project foremen is highlighted as a key success factor. The combination of process, software, and motivated project staff resulted in a 50% improvement in the “time on tools” as measured by an independent audit conducted by ConstructX.

Construction Cloud is today being used across a large range of projects globally. This session will demonstrate a number of use cases, including how PlanGrid is helping build and maintain railways, Assemble is being used to quantify materials in dams, BuildingConnected is being used to source subcontractors for road projects, and BIM 360 software is being used to manage complex infrastructure projects. We will also show how Autodesk partners are being used in conjunction with Construction Cloud products to help infrastructure asset owners better use the data collected on a project.

These words from the speaker’s leadership hit home when first heard as a young virtual design and construction (VDC) engineer after grinding through the first coordination project. After hitting road blocks with communicating issues in the coordination process, losing information in too many repositories, wasting time running back and forth to the trailer, and not having the data to learn what to do different, the speaker and team have created smarter workflows and processes to better plan, do, check, and perform their efforts.

This session is a follow-up of the class presented last year about the “Virtual construction site management with advanced workflow in BIM360” (CS468465). We will describe the improvements made this year through the adoption of the Build module including the PlanGrid Build mobile app for field workers. We’ve been widely extending the use of Construction Cloud with digitalization of other construction processes in addition of those already implemented. We are focusing our attention on setting up a workflow for safety and environmental check in the work site.Using Forge and Construction Cloud Connect, we are developing integration with other company database and Legacy IT systems, to avoid data redundancy and to build up integrated dashboards. In upcoming years we will be able to manage and improve the construction process of linear infrastructure projects with ConstructionCloud in order to improve data quality, reduce costs and time by 60%, reduce wastefulness and promote sustainability
