Inventor Design Collaboration Future: IP Management, Viewing Strategies, Design Reuse
Connected design collaborations need to be contextually relevant with the ability to easily manage what aspects of the design we share, with whom we share, when we share, and how we share. In a roundtable format, facilitators will generate lively discussion around key collaboration topics for Inventor software, including IP management, viewing strategies, and design reuse. To explore IP management, the facilitators will demonstrate possible future scenarios then host a discussion to tease out what aspects of a design are considered IP in different situations. To explore viewing strategies, we will do a small-group exercise to envision what actions we'd want collaborators to take on shared designs (commenting, markup, and beyond), occasions when we'd want collaborations to be asynchronous versus live, and other topics. To get at design reuse, we will do a prioritization exercise to understand which metadata is most helpful when striving to quickly find the closest design to the project as well as what is needed to understand history of design changes.

Model Simplification: Sharing IP
In the CAD world, it’s a requirement to share IP across the different software systems with different companies. It helps to collaborate and innovate better designs. Inventor software makes the process easy regardless of whether or not the other party uses Inventor. One of the biggest concerns while sharing out model data is protecting IP in your design. You can either share your file in a neutral file format, or you can simplify the model to help ensure easy collaboration and better protect your model and your IP. We are going to explore the best ways to simplify the model so that you can protect the data but still be able to share the model.

This session will be an introduction to the world of Alias product design, concept modeling, and detailed surface modeling. We’ll look at how automation can speed up the design process—allowing faster and more informed design making, as well creating shareable and reusable IP across the design pipeline. Experience-based decision making is becoming more important, and we’ll look at trends and offer insights into how this can help industrial and product designers gather customers insights. Disparate tools need cross-team and cross-function collaboration, making the designers of tomorrow even more efficient. Making decisions faster (with confidence) across teams and geographies is key. We believe that the future of design will start with the customer, and how we ensure that connection works (as well as enterprise-wide integration) in a seamless manner.

A Platform for Success: Streamlining the Design Process and Increasing Industrialization Through Platform Design
Using our Autodesk suite to reshape our design process and owning our IP has enabled sustainable scaling and the delivery of large pipelines of work for central government using off-site construction methods. This success has led to a 300% increase in our manufacturing capacity in the last three years, while maintaining client satisfaction with the quality of our design and project delivery. We'll explain how this has been achieved through repeatable and continuously improved designs, supported by Autodesk Build and Autodesk Docs software. Using Fabricator Data and Expertize to Optimize Steel Structures
This class will present a Revit software plug-in developed collaboratively by Stanford University and Autodesk, Inc., that enables architects and engineers to receive real-time feedback on the installed cost, lead time, and environmental impact of steel structural design options. The estimates are based on current data provided by members of the structural steel supply chain, including mills, fabricators, and erectors. The IP required to produce the estimate is stored and maintained by each party in a secure online database; information authorized for release to the designer is accessed by the Revit plug-in via web services and visualized in the context of the Building Information Modeling (BIM). We will share 2 industry case-study applications of the technology in collaboration with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM); Rutherford + Chekene; and Herrick. We will discuss the business benefits and process changes required to on-board the technology for design engineers, fabricators, and erectors, and we will cover future plans for the development of the technology.
