Customer challenge

MAC Developments is a multi-disciplinary South African-based company offering building design, MEP engineering, and construction services to customers across the country from both remote locations and within the metropolitan cities with over 15 years of experience in the industry. With a staff count of over 100 people working across the country at any given time, communicating designs, data, and coordinating project updates and plans presented itself as a big challenge that impacted the turnaround time on project feedback, updates, and delivery. The sharing of design data which was previously done using PDF documents became more and more challenging while working on numerous different projects at a time. One of the biggest challenges however was not having a comprehensive South African library of products, which was very time-consuming when starting new design work.

Project goals

As an AEC Service Provider to predominately South African customers, MAC Development's goal in using Autodesk Revit - which comes with their AEC Collection subscription, was to eliminate time-consuming tasks by creating Revit libraries with South Africa-specific products/elements to save time when starting new projects. This goal was quickly met through their prompt adoption of Autodesk Revit in 2017, which was deployed and onboarded by Autodesk Gold Solution Provider to MAC Developments, Baker Baynes - who assisted the drafting team at MAC Developments by showing them how to create libraries in Revit, and how to update and maintain these.

Solution

MAC Developments makes use of the Autodesk Architecture, Engineering and Construction Collection, and predominantly uses AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, together with Autodesk ReCap Pro, Autodesk Rendering, BIM 360, and the Autodesk Construction Cloud for improved workflows, improved collaboration between teams, data storage, and access. The effective installation, onboarding, and use of these Autodesk solutions was facilitated by Baker Baynes who offered the product training to the drafting team at MAC Developments, and today continues to deliver customer success through managing their renewals and keeping the team up to date with new releases and product information.
