Gateway Real Estate Africa is a private real estate development company specialising in the turnkey construction of accommodation for multinational corporates and retailers wishing to expand their operations on the African continent. Other challenges include standard common data environments previously used being basic and lacking fundamental elements. Project goals

The main goal in acquiring an Autodesk solution was to find a single platform that all stakeholders (client, professional team, and contractors) could use to effectively communicate, collaborate and work on together. "We needed a one-stop-shop for all project and construction processes to be conducted and tracked throughout the duration of the project". Another goal was to standardize the issuance of documents with generic folders, drawing names, document types, etc. "We wanted all project data to be easily available to the team at all times." Better communication between all parties before and during construction was another goal that needed to be achieved to ensure the timeous completion of the project. And in addition to this, we also aimed at achieving the goal of automating track tasks, RFI's, approvals, and being able to easily identify when any of these tasks are overdue - and by whom the action is needed from to action task.

Solution

The adoption and use of Autodesk software allowed the team at GREA to automate and streamline several processes that were previously time-consuming. Issuing documents became more simple and the software ensured that the correct parties received the correct documentation. Project data was stored in a central location and was easy to search and find for all stakeholders. No one could claim that documentation was not issued as this was all tracked and recorded. We have also been able to more effectively track overdue tasks and follow up with the relevant parties/individuals. Project contractors began exporting reports of upcoming and overdue tasks to include feedback reports and to run through during meetings. It also enabled us to quickly generate reports for tracking and following up on tasks on site.

Business outcome

Our teams have been able to save a significant amount of time on the previously time-consuming tasks such as approvals, issuing documents, receiving and issuing feedback. Ultimately, the team began communicating more on Autodesk which allowed for more streamlined meetings and discussions on site; which meant that meeting times were cut down drastically - leaving more time for work on-site or tackling other challenges.
