Would you like to optimise Project and Design Management? In this class we’ll go through workflows and automated processes that enable us to track deliverables’ development progress and compare with schedule and budget more efficiently and accurately. We will work within the ISO19650 framework and use some of the standards’ metrics in a set of dashboards to provide an overview of the sample project’s development. To analyse the data, it first gets exported from BIM 360 and Revit files using Forge. All exported data, with schedule and budget, is imported into Power BI. For contextualisation, we also embed the Forge Viewer into Power BI, enabling us to dynamically switch between the project’s models and sheets corresponding to the data displayed on the dashboards. This approach to data and project management allows us to improve collaboration, enhance quality of deliverables and reduce cost and risk. Over the course of 2 years, we predict saving $190,000 in one project alone.

Project management for construction can be very challenging. It involves intensive coordination among teams and stakeholders throughout all project phases, from design review to project delivery. Skilled trades people are in demand, with many sectors of the construction industry experiencing a shortage of workers. While there are ongoing efforts to work towards solving this challenge, such as workforce diversification and better access to apprenticeship programs, it is important to remember that skilled project management personnel are in short supply as well, and that shortage is continuing to grow. Historically, the industry has tackled this challenge through on-the-job training and elevating tradespeople to management positions, leveraging their firsthand knowledge of the work done at the job site. These mentorships, whether formal or informal, continue to be of great importance, but may fall short in today's rapidly changing construction industry. With the adoption of new technologies such as software based project management tools, digital drawings that include 3D and BIM data, and evolving methods of collaboration such as Lean thinking, its important to adopt more formalized methods of continued education and to find ways to make this available to our skilled trades people. This panel discussion will explore the importance of access to information and training, the value of self-paced learning, and the benefits professional development can bring to organizations and the industry as a whole.

Airport design necessitates collaboration between numerous teams with a wide range of skill sets generally coming from various locations. This requires well-established strategies and methodical use of tools and technologies for a successful delivery of a large-scale project. This session will present strategies for utilizing cloud collaboration tools such as Collaboration for Revit, BIM 360 Team and Fusion Team (formerly A360 Team), BIM 360 Glue software, and BIM 360 Docs software in order to help teams communicate and collaborate effectively in delivering a complex project. We will showcase San Francisco's $2.4 billion International Airport project as an example of utilizing these strategies to enable effective collaboration between more than 200 architects, engineers, and builders from Woods Bagot, HKS Architects, Gensler, and numerous core trades and consultants on this design-build project. This session will present Building Information Modeling (BIM) strategies for cloud collaboration and data management on airport projects.
