Schools have widely adopted the Tinkercad design tool for 3D printing. It can also be a very powerful tool for teaching other concepts through project-based learning. In this class you will get to know experiences and effective practices around the introduction of Tinkercad in its use for teaching several STEAM topics for audiences that include children as young as 8 years old. Discover how kids end up getting involved in 3D printing while learning about math, sciences, and art—all while playing with a surprisingly intuitive tool.

There's a perfect storm of technology change driving the construction revolution today. Mobile devices, Internet of Things, sensors, and drones are continuously capturing construction job-site data and the cloud is aggregating this data. Machine-learning applications such as BIM 360 IQ software help construction project teams analyze risk from this data in real time and take corrective actions. Layton Construction and Autodesk have been collaborating and working together for the past year to apply the BIM 360 IQ machine-learning system for construction safety. In this session, Cooper Darling-an assistant project manager from Layton Construction-will be sharing his project manager experiences involved in helping identify and reduce safety risks on a construction job site with the aid of assistive technologies such as machine learning. Cooper is also part of Layton's National Safety Leadership Team, and he's helping champion the processes and standards based on BIM 360 software for Layton.

Design-centric curriculum (DCC) is an alternative learning pathway that was established 2 years ago at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in response to the increasing demand from the industry for engineering graduates who are able to think creatively, define problems, and work across disciplines in a multidisciplinary team. Design-thinking as a technique to develop innovative solutions to a set of problems defined by the students forms the backbone of the curriculum. This alternative curriculum consists of students working in a team on a multi-year, multidisciplinary project that is the main learning vehicle in DCC and is aimed at developing certain desired traits in our students. We will cover the types of formative and summative assessment that were developed by the DCC team to assess the achievement of our students, and we will share with the audience our philosophy, methodology, and experience in the development of the assessment method that was adopted.

Autodesk products, in particular the entertainment creation suites, offer an opportunity to reinvent learning in language arts, social studies, and other core academic classes. By using a game or movie development approach to core subject learning, you can motivate your students to learn with the use of tools such as Autodesk® 3ds Max®, Autodesk Maya®, and other software products. The variety of Autodesk products, combined with the general principles that have already seen amazing classroom success, could reignite a passion for learning in so many students and schools. The field of construction is well placed to benefit from the advent of machine learning and artificial intelligence. As part of the BIM 360 Project IQ Team at Autodesk, I've had the privilege of being a part of Autodesk's foray into machine learning for construction. This talk will focus on summarizing the developments in this space, and we'll cover some ways in which one can prepare to maximize value from this technology. The class has 2 sections. The first part provides a broad survey of some of the applications of AI and machine learning in construction, and the potential impact. These processes are making changes across various areas, including risk management, schedule management, subcontractor management, construction site environment monitoring, and safety, to name a few. In the second part, the focus will be on construction industry leaders who will talk about their experiences with smarter tools in their daily jobs, and their views of the impact that these tools might have in the short and long terms.

This class will focus on the BIM for Aqualculture Project delivered in Nordic by Kruger Kaldnes, part of Veolia Water Technologies, comprising world-class technical know-how and technologies for water purification. The BIM manager will speak about the process based on Autodesk technologies starting with reality capture with ReCap, the process definition with AutoCAD Plant 3D, design engineering with Revit, clash detection with Navisworks Manage, and all the project data managed by BIM 360 Platform for collaboration with external subcontractors who permit to reduce engineering time and improve quality of the deliverables.

This class will encompass the journey for BIM (Building Information Modeling) managers from the inception of the BIM execution plan and through the various phases of construction. The case studies will illustrate the skills that project managers need to develop and implement an execution plan across a project. The class will showcase the development of DEP based on AIA and other standards. We will discuss in detail the design development and construction document phases of the project to define the processes that BIM managers can use to excel on projects. The class will showcase case studies from projects across the United States, Europe, and Singapore, and examine how the BIM journey across a project can be excelled. This class is a great resource that can give all BIM managers and designers the opportunity to learn from real-life projects across the globe.

We all know that sharing CAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM) data with project team members who are outside of your organization has its challenges—especially in an integrated project delivery (IPD) environment. Each project faces challenges such as data-sharing methods, how often to share data, how to work with geographically dispersed teams, the potential of working with different partners on each project, figuring out who owns what, and solving how the team accesses the data. Attendees of this roundtable session have the benefit of learning what works and what doesn't work on these types of projects based upon real-world, honest feedback from a group of their peers who are living through these project-related challenges. Participants also have the opportunity to share their BIM/IPD experiences with others.

One of the biggest hurdles for architects, engineers, and construction professionals interested in capitalizing on the power of Dynamo visual programming language extension is learning to think like a programmer. In this class, we'll cover several basic programming concepts which, on the surface, may not seem to relate directly to Building Information Modeling (BIM)—but then we'll apply these techniques to Dynamo examples for Revit software workflows, such as placing various types of Revit software families, reading and changing parameters, and creating new project views and sheets. By the time we’ll be finished, you'll have a strong foundation for working more efficiently, accurately, and powerfully in your day-to-day Revit project work. Will Plato, VDC manager at Hensel Phelps, will introduce and discuss his innovative use of construction technologies and the co-development of reality capture, computer vision, and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Hensel Phelps has partnered with HoloBuilder to further develop their 360-degree photo-documentation platform and solve immediate needs on projects throughout the Southwest region. Mr. Plato’s presentation will outline how Hensel Phelps has used technology to secure ROI and gain a competitive advantage; show how to successfully involve key members of the team in software development projects; and demonstrate the next-generation AI reality analytics tools that Hensel Phelps is piloting with HoloBuilder. After an initial MVP dashboard, analytics based on computer vision and machine learning were added to supplement the HoloBuilder projects. Comparing project progress ratios has helped Mr. Plato and his team apply learnings from one project to the next, and help Hensel Phelps become an even better builder.
