Virtual reality (VR) has been brought to the forefront recently with Oculus VR's Oculus Rift. In this class we will discuss how the emerging technologies around head-mounted displays have reignited VR for those of us in visualization, media, and marketing. We will showcase tips and techniques to use in VR projects, and we'll discuss how this technology can raise the bar in your own projects. We will base the class around profile projects, including the VR Red Bull Air Race experience and stand. This experience started with highly accurate LiDAR (light detection and ranging) scans of the racecourse. Following that, 3ds Max software was used to texturize the models, and then Unreal Engine 4 was used for creation. A physical stand was also designed and engineered by taking 3ds Max software plans back through AutoCAD software and straight to manufacture. The project was also released on mobile platforms, including the new 3D-printed Altergaze mobile-phone VR accessory. We will discuss this device and what it means for rapid prototyping and the open hardware revolution.

In the last few years, we’ve witnessed automotive design undergoing a sea change largely driven by two main factors: climate change concerns and consumer behavior. Push for more greener vehicles fueled by technological advancements has created a new category for consumers that’s redefining traditional vehicle aesthetics. Similarly, forces linked to ever-changing consumer aspirations and behaviors—largely driven by factors like rapid urbanization, rise in disposable incomes, digital and social awareness, unexpected events like Covid-19 pandemic, and geopolitical tensions—are already impacting automotive design. This session will take a look at how certain disruptions in the traditional automotive design approaches have the potential to shape the future of mobility and challenge the conformist styling concepts. We’ll also look at how Autodesk tools like Alias and VRED software continue to stay relevant in this overall transition.

Skyscrapers, subways, airplanes, and automobiles-our world is full of marvelous inventions that humanity has designed and built. So what is the one tool that's enabled us to create these wonders? The greatest tool we've ever invented was the tool! Our creativity has only ever been limited by the tools at our disposal; and with the development of virtual reality and mixed reality, we've taken a significant evolutionary step in how we can design. Bridgestone Corporation is currently researching the utilization of mixed-reality technology for design, operations, maintenance, training, and sales. This class will cover our current findings and how to use the technology in process manufacturing. As an Innovation Specialist at Bridgestone, Brent Jackson is spearheading this research and development.This class will also recap how he rose to this position, which all began by watching the Autodesk University 2015 keynote live stream where he learned about the Stingray gaming engine and realized its potential.

 Moldflow Insight software is used to develop automotive interior and exterior in China’s Chang’an Automobile Group, from the stage of engineering design to part's structure design then to mold design and molding condition optimize also include the trouble shooting after the first trial. Based on the comparison between the experiment and Moldflow Insight results, Chang’an successfully built an analysis standard and results judge standard. With the help of API, Chang’an created many programs to automatically do the model create, molding condition optimize, results judge, and so on. To meet the assessment criteria of GDT which was used on the part of motor, normally defined the tolerance of fit. Changan's analyst explore and studied a new way to simulate and examine the part's GDT by co-work with Moldflow Insight, Digimat, and Abaqus. This class will use many actual case to show these application, through that we can see the benefit of use right  Moldflow Insight application strategy in the development of automotive interior and exterior new part.
