Digital Transformation with Autodesk BIM 360 Build

Digital Transformation with Autodesk BIM 360 Build

Customer challenge

Founded in 1935, Khansaheb is one of the leading construction and facilities management companies in the United Arab Emirates. Over its 85-year journey, the company has played a key role in the development of the UAE and delivered a number of the country’s most iconic projects. Today Khansaheb provides a comprehensive range of construction services for building and infrastructure projects from the initial business case and design to ongoing operations and aftercare. The company’s aim is to deliver the best value to customers and ensure their joint success. Given its heritage and longevity, Khansaheb had a traditional approach to construction processes, but was keen to embrace the benefits of digitalisation for the business and for their clients.

Project goals

The team was eager to establish a Common Data Environment (CDE) that would connect the business and support site-based processes. The CDE should also decrease paper-based processes for the site and improve communications with the internal and external teams. Ideally, issue resolution time would also be more efficient after the implementation and the executives could have more visibility of the project status.

Solution

Khansaheb decided to work with Autodesk Solution Provider Accienta to support the implementation of Autodesk BIM 360 Build. BIM 360 Build is a unified construction management software platform for connecting teams, workflows and data. Khansaheb ran an initial programme over six months to implement the platform and run a proof of concept (POC). During this engagement, Accienta served as a digital transformation enabler by mapping the existing key site processes in the organization and how they could be improved by the use of BIM 360. This process involved different departments like IT, QA/QC, Design/BIM team, Contracts, Construction executives, and more. Moreover, besides the Business Transformation Services and workflow mapping of the As-Is to To-Be state, Accienta provided the full system configuration, deployment, training and support for the POC.

Business outcome

Autodesk Build helps to connect design, engineering and site teams at Khansaheb, as well as supporting communication with subcontractors on-site. Everyone can access the information they need, when they need it, and be confident that the data is accurate and timely. The issues management function has been particularly valuable for Khansaheb.

Conclusion

One of the biggest benefits of introducing Autodesk Build at Khansaheb has been the reliability, making sure the right person is handling the right information. Paper processes were removed for issue resolution and that saves paper, ink and time. Issue resolution is less prone to error as every single step of the workflow and the responsible party/role is captured in the system. The platform has delivered tangible time-savings as well and the adoption and user feedback has been positive improving mindset and project outcomes through efficient collaboration.
