Success Story

BRT Station Design

BRT Station Design

Customer challenge

HHO Consulting Engineers was faced with the following challenges: 1) “Terrible” concrete retaining walls – creating a “barrier” between BRT busway and mixed traffic 2) Using current technology, it was difficult to communicate the impact of the retaining walls 3) Needed alternative design presentation to communicate the real impact of the walls 4) Design experience did not allow for a realistic visualization for project stakeholder understating, buy-in and sign off

Project goals

HHO Consulting Engineers stated the project goal of achieving Project Stakeholder approval by providing a realistic 3D visualization and fly through together with a 3D Model.

Solution

The appropriate Autodesk solutions for this project included Infraworks, Civil 3D, Revit and Inventor. Our professional services team consulted with the project team to create a model using Infraworks as well as conducted training onsite and helped get the project kicked off with some handholding and onboarding services.

Business outcome

The Project Stakeholders (not Civil Engineers) were not able to understand the design intent which would cause the project to be delayed considerably. Stakeholders became increasingly frustrated and HHO were placed under time pressure to obtain buy-in and approvals. Allowing Baker Baynes to consult, train and provide project assistance allowed HHO to produce a complete 3D model within the desired timeframe, something that they wouldn't have achieved otherwise.

Conclusion

Our personal approach for the client helped the Team Lead and entire project team trust in our processes and expertise helping us deliver successfully on our project mandate and ultimately producing the final model and design for approvals as required.

Digitising Construction to Mitigate Risks and Deliver Projects on Time

MAC Developments is a multi-disciplinary South African-based company offering building design, MEP engineering, and construction services to customers across the country from both remote locations and within the metropolitan cities with over 15 years of experience in the industry. With a staff count of over 100 people working across the country at any given time, communicating designs, data, and coordinating project updates and plans presented itself as a big challenge that impacted the turnaround time on project feedback, updates, and delivery. The sharing of design data which was previously done using PDF documents became more and more challenging while working on numerous different projects at a time. One of the biggest challenges however was not having a comprehensive South African library of products, which was very time-consuming when starting new design work.

Fostering Effective Data Management & Team Collaboration with Autodesk Construction Cloud Solutions

Gateway Real Estate Africa is a private real estate development company specialising in the turnkey construction of accommodation for multinational corporates and retailers wishing to expand their operations on the African continent. Using Autodesk Build helped the GREA team address challenges associated with project transparency, communication, and collaboration between the project teams, contractors, and other service providers. Other challenges include standard common data environments previously used being basic and lacking fundamental elements. Searching for a specific document was challenging as documents were not always named correctly or placed in incorrect folders. Large quantities of data and documents are dealt with on these projects and documents can easily get lost or missed. There was also a lack of efficiency in the issuance and notification of construction documentation, and documents could easily be lost or damaged.
