Civil 3D teams rely on reusable design content to apply standards consistently and keep projects moving efficiently. However, that content is often scattered across local folders, shared drives, previous projects, and informal libraries. As a result, teams spend valuable time searching for the right files, struggle to determine which content is current and approved, and often recreate content that already exists.
Autodesk Content Catalog addresses this challenge by providing a centralized place to manage, discover, and reuse trusted design content. More than a file repository, it helps teams find, understand, govern, and reuse content across projects, improving consistency while reducing duplicate work.
Content Catalog Beta is now expanding to support Autodesk Civil 3D, beginning with subassemblies in the PKT file format. This release marks the first step in a broader initiative to help Civil 3D customers more effectively manage, govern, and reuse trusted Civil design content.
Find the right subassembly with greater confidence
For beta participants, this means an early opportunity to explore how centralized Civil content management can reduce duplicate work, improve confidence in approved assets, and inform the future direction of Content Catalog for Civil 3D workflows.
With this update, beta users can upload Civil 3D subassemblies, organize them within managed collections, control access, view previews and extracted properties, and use that information to more easily discover the right content.
Content Catalog also goes beyond simply storing the PKT file. It parses the PKT to expose information defined within the subassembly, including its parameters, default values, and other properties as searchable data. This allows users to find content based on what is contained within the subassembly, rather than relying only on file names or folder structures. For example, someone could search for a road subassembly that includes a ditch component or narrow results based on specific parameter values.
By centralizing Civil content and making its data more discoverable, Content Catalog can help organizations reduce time spent searching through folders, make trusted content easier to find, and carry standards and expertise across projects. Over time, that can support greater consistency and reduce the rework that comes from using outdated, duplicated, or ungoverned assets.
The first step in a broader Civil content initiative
This release is the first step for Content Catalog in supporting Civil 3D. Future development is expected to add support for more Civil content, such as DWG files, and offer a more integrated Civil 3D experience. The initial beta focuses on PKT subassemblies and does not include DWG support or integrated insert and export features.
Beta users will also join a community where they can ask questions, report issues, and share feedback directly with our team. That feedback will help shape the future of Civil content management in Content Catalog.
