Autodesk Forma Carbon Insights (formerly Autodesk Insight) delivers total carbon analysis across Forma Building Design and Revit, helping teams understand carbon impacts in early-phase design workflows and carry those insights into detailed design. This makes it easier for teams of all sizes to participate in sustainability efforts and make informed decisions around reducing a building’s overall carbon footprint. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new.

Easily get started in Forma Building Design
Forma Building Design is a new offering that makes early design exploration faster and lower-effort, helping architects quickly generate options, test performance, and define a clear direction before moving into Revit. Forma Carbon Insights is accessible from both Forma Building Design and Revit, enabling teams to act on the same carbon data, including embodied and operational carbon, from the start and throughout the project.*

In Forma Building Design, total carbon analysis powered by Forma Carbon Insights enables:
- Fast, accessible results within the Forma Building Design environment, allowing you to experiment with early building models and start to estimate baseline carbon implications
- Full carbon assessment from the start of the project, including both embodied carbon and operational carbon for energy assessment
- In-depth analysis in the Forma Carbon Insights dashboard, including customization, advanced configuration, and collaborative insights
- An established baseline which can be carried forward in detailed design workflows, enabling consistent data and analysis for ongoing assessment
While understanding how to reduce carbon impacts is key to designing sustainable buildings, the ability to run these assessments has historically been isolated to specialist roles or workflows. With easy-to-use solutions like total carbon analysis powered by Forma Carbon Insights, firms can bring sustainability knowledge in-house and scale the capability to track carbon across teams.

Align on carbon insights across teams
With Forma Carbon Insights, you can now share dashboards across multi-disciplinary teams to visualize, track, and reduce carbon impacts together, transforming carbon analysis from a specialist task into a connected project or firm-wide capability.
Whether analysis begins in Revit or Forma Building Design, producing consistent assessments and collaborative insights from your cloud-hosted models allows for:
- Project members, admins, and clients to view, edit, and visualize opportunities for carbon reduction in browser
- Teams to align around common metrics, factors, and sustainability goals
- Various stakeholders to work from the same connected data, accelerating alignment, reducing information loss, and scaling carbon expertise
- Assessments that are consistent across energy analysis and common carbon datasets
Access deeper carbon intelligence directly from Revit
Understanding how to best reduce carbon and optimize energy performance on projects is complex. As the next generation of Autodesk Insight, Forma Carbon Insights users can still start their models in Revit without needing to rework or model in a separate tool.

Generate an Energy Analytical Model (EAM) from your Revit model to run a cleaner and more detailed embodied, operational, and total carbon analysis powered by real BIM data. Open your model in Forma Carbon Insights to:
- Define and track carbon metrics and benchmarks that reflect client requirements, internal sustainability standards, or specific needs on the project
- Explore rigorous material assessments and energy simulation to iterate on carbon reduction strategies
- Balance trade-offs between the impact of changes to building form, orientation, envelope, materials, internal loads, HVAC systems, renewable offsets to carbon impacts and energy costs
- Visualize options and custom dashboards to support sustainable design conversations with clients
Building on Insight’s capabilities, Forma Carbon Insights now incorporates a greater scope and level of detail for embodied carbon, including structural models.** Forma Carbon Insights provides what you need to adapt to the realities of your project and region, featuring multiple material carbon datasets (for carbon emissions factors) out of the box and connection to third-party data sources.
