A lot of time and money is devoted to learning how to operate Revit MEP software, but there are very few classes on how to successfully project manage a Revit MEP project. Revit MEP software requires all team members to be coordinated with their designs and to communicate better as a team. This class covers the necessary processes to help start a Revit MEP project off on the right foot and discusses how to streamline the workflow process. We also discuss the importance of internal coordination meetings to fully review the MEP design.

This will be a hands-on introduction to the world of fabrication with Revit MEP software. Familiarize yourself with the fabrication possibilities introduced in Revit MEP 2016 software, such as how to manage and create fabrication content. We will also take a look into possible Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows for fabricators.

This class will show you how to work programmatically with Autodesk Revit MEP software models. We will provide an overview of the entire Revit MEP API and specifically focus on the major enhancements in Revit 2013. The most important 2013 feature is the routing preference functionality. The 2013 light and light group API will also addressed. An overview of the available samples will be provided. All MEP domains including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing will be addressed. We will show how to analyze existing systems and create new MEP models from scratch. We will cover mechanical and electrical system traversal; display of system hierarchies in a tree view; components such as circuits, ducts, pipes, fittings, connectors, cable trays, and conduits; and automatic calculation and sizing based on room and space requirements. Note that prior .NET programming and Revit MEP product experience is required and that this class is not suitable for beginners.

Revit MEP software can be a very powerful modeling tool that enables you to explore the building design for a mechanical system. Once the energy calculations are done (either natively in Revit or externally), an optimum design for the building air systems needs to be developed. Traditionally, this has been done using a rule-of-thumb approach or by using simple modeling techniques in Revit. With the seamless translation of models between Revit MEP and Autodesk Simulation CFD software, you can quickly explore design alternatives for diffuser layouts in your models. You can compare design scenarios in Autodesk Simulation CFD using various performance metrics and thus determine the most efficient and best possible layout for your building design.

Welcome to the ever-changing and evolving Building Information Modeling (BIM) world. This class is designed for BIM managers and Revit leaders who are responsible for setting up the company Autodesk Revit MEP software template. During this class, you will learn best practices for creating and managing a Revit MEP template. We are also going to examine a template that is not really a template (RTE file) and explore the benefits it has versus the traditional RTE template file. In addition, you will learn how to integrate the new features into your existing template and reduce hundreds and hundreds of design hours replacing your old workflow. Some of the things that we are going to explore include naming conventions and managing views, customizing pipe/duct/conduit/cable tray types, the all new pipe and duct systems, view templates, things that should be in your template, and many other little tips that will take your Revit MEP template to the next level.

Are you a Revit MEP software user who feels left behind in the development of Dynamo software? Well, not so fast! You can use Dynamo software to help expedite many common MEP workflows. The Dynamo extension is a program that uses visual programming, so you don’t have to worry about trying to learn difficult programming languages. In this class you’ll get to know the basics of Dynamo software and how it interacts with Revit software. We will also cover several examples where you can use Dynamo software to save time during the MEP design process. This lecture is ideal for Revit MEP software users who want to see what Dynamo software can do. Even better, no programming experience is required! Afterward, you will be able to implement Dynamo software immediately.

This class focuses on improving efficiency and consistency in your models by making the best use of the calculations available in Revit MEP software. Live demonstrations using real project models show how the calculations that are built into Revit MEP can be made to work for you and where the limitations lie. We cover calculations for duct and pipe pressure drops, equipment duties and flow rates, and rule-of-thumb space loads. We look at what is available in the box and explain how you can add your own calculations to equipment and to spaces. The class takes advantage of the more open API in Revit MEP 2014 and makes use of new add-ins that change the calculation methodology used within Revit to suit your standards. All of these methods can help to link mechanical calculations to your drawings and schedules, cutting out much time compared to traditional processes and enabling far better consistency throughout your project.

This class shows the evolution of design-to-fabrication workflows within an integrated project delivery team. By adopting the BIM-MEPAUS Revit MEP software add-in, the design model is efficiently passed through to the construction team for development into a constructable LOD 400 model. Within a single Revit MEP model, services are coordinated and approved for construction while data sets are used for procurement. The model is used for ductwork fabrication using Autodesk® Fabrication CADmep™ software in an integrated workflow. Using Navisworks® Manage, the lead coordinating contractor completes the final coordination using the federated model and finalizes site point positioning setouts using positioning points embedded in the model. The model is passed to the site team and used to support installation. The class demonstrates the workflow through real-life projects, providing practical insights into the multiple benefits that can be used by adopting these workflows.

You want MEP building analysis, but there is no architectural model. Are you kidding? Should you continue with 2D or maintain your skills and create your own building model using the conceptual massing tools? MEP building analysis is easy when you use the massing tools in Autodesk Revit MEP 2013 software—a largely underused tool for the MEP designer. In this class, you will discover how to build an analysis model using linked 2D data as a wireframe model. From this wireframe, we will construct a mass model, add external walls and windows, and populate the interior with walls rooms and spaces. We will continue the process, creating a space schedule for checking and naming purposes and exporting to gbXML. Additionally, we will take a look at some of the new features in Revit MEP 2013 that enable you to make best use of a linked architectural file—whether you use the data attached to the architect's model or override it in the design analysis model.

In this class, we go through the process of completing an Inventor software model ready for use by an MEP engineer, including preparing ducting and pipework on a skid from an Inventor model. We cover detail model simplification and preparation, as well as the various export options to Revit MEP, including parametric versus nonparametric and ways to protect user intellectual property.

As Building Information Modeling (BIM) uptake continues to grow across all disciplines, MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) design and MEP spatial coordination is at a particularly interesting stage. The need for both design information inputs and the sharing of design updates from architects, structural engineers, and various specialist MEP designers places pressure on, and increases risk for, MEP coordination teams. While many collaboration tools have been used for file sharing, the advent of Collaboration for Revit cloud service has provided a platform for a new level of buy-in and adoption. The range of benefits that Collaboration for Revit provides-including the ability to house central files-is seeing an increased level of engagement and improved output on time in the industry. We'll demonstrate, through our established workflow and numerous worldwide projects, just how to manage MEP BIM projects using tools such as Revit MEP software and Navisworks software, and we'll show participants the benefits of Collaboration for Revit for effective MEP coordination management.

This class is designed to improve design efficiency specifically for the plumbing discipline. In the class, you will learn how to use the pipe routing preferences in Autodesk® Revit® MEP software to your advantage, how to map plumbing connectors for proper flow, and how to track fixture units within systems. We will also show how the basic lookup tables drive the outside diameter (OD) size of your double-line piping, provide tips for the use of sloped piping, and finally, demonstrate how preconfigured families can make rough-in schedules a breeze.

Connectors are the heart and soul of Autodesk Revit MEP. Without them, we could just use AutoCAD. Connectors allow data to be transferred intelligently from one family to another. When a section of duct is tagged, what properties display? Width and Height? Air Velocity? Air Volume? What is the source of this information? The source is the equipment to which the duct is connected. All of the data is translated through connectors so Revit can assist with calculating the load on any section of duct, or communicate that load to a supplying piece of equipment. Connectors shouldn't be so mystical, but somehow they seem to be the biggest mystery when creating valuable families for Autodesk Revit MEP. In Revit MEP a family could consist of nothing more than a solid cube, a few connectors and related shared parameters and be a valuable family. Another family for the exact same product could be beautifully modeled and contain appropriate parameters and still be useless to an MEP engineer.

This class presents a real-life case study of a successful power substation design project using Autodesk Revit MEP software. It not only covers normal mechanical, lighting, power, security, hydraulic, and fire protection design, modeling, and documentation, but also introduces innovative ways of designing high-voltage cables in tight 3D building and tunnel spaces to meet the strict bending radius requirements. The solution provided some unprecedented methodology for high-voltage substation designers to resolve coordinated multidisciplinary 3D design issues. The methodology readily takes into account bending radius, electrical clearance, cable joints, site work, high-voltage cable position alternating and penetration in tunnels, high-voltage cable connections to Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and transformers through conduits and cable trays, lighting, and ventilation design.

Revit software’s analytical tools provide powerful capabilities for schematic MEP design. However, the lack of a native workflow to convert these elements into 3D system-based models often hinders their adoption. This session will share the workflow that both electrical and mechanical teams at IMEG have developed to tackle the challenge of transforming analytical intent into fully functional Revit MEP systems. You’ll learn how to map analytical elements to specific family types, create user-friendly configurators for precise family placement, and build complete systems by connecting MEP family connectors. We’ll demonstrate Automation, Integration, & Customization strategies using Dynamo scripting and robust Revit add-in development. This technical instruction will offer practical and repeatable workflows that enhance Revit software’s early-phase design and overall efficiency, while increasing confidence in its analytical and system modeling tools.

Topics will include managing your project template; creating 2D annotation symbols and electrical families; creating more efficient diagrams; using filters for your electrical systems; and laying out fixtures. We'll also look at devices and equipment, circuiting, and scheduling. We will cover techniques for achieving better coordination between disciplines (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) and making the most out of Revit MEP software, and we will discuss some best practices. We will also share with you an actual project that implemented items discussed during this lecture.

Join this class to learn how to use the Revit API to develop a custom node to extend Dynamo for Revit by yourself. In this demonstration, we will show how to use the Dynamo custom node to automatically place Revit MEP Fabrication hangers according to the rules stored in a Microsoft Excel sheet. Dynamo for Revit does not support creation of Revit MEP fabrication parts with standard nodes, so in the sample, we’ll use a custom node developed via the Revit API. The custom node is developed on top of Revit Fabrication MEP API. The topic covers both Dynamo custom node and some Revit MEP Fabrication workflows driven by programming on top of the Revit API.

This class will teach MEP subcontractors how to set up and use Revit software for MEP modeling, coordination, and fabrication. Having developed this service from scratch, we’ll offer a unique perspective on the process from start to finish. We’ll start by learning how to set up Fabrication Parts in Revit, adding custom parts to our catalog, and we’ll discuss efficient modeling strategies using these new parts. We’ll then explore add-ins and software that are helpful in the coordination process. Finally, we’ll discuss useful coordination drawings, spooling drawings, and how to create these so they facilitate a simpler workflow in the field.

This class will teach MEP subcontractor attendees how to use Revit software for MEP modeling, coordination, and fabrication. We will start by setting up Revit products and Fabrication Parts content, go into modeling strategies, discuss add-ins, and finish with producing coordination drawings and spooling drawings. Having developed this service from scratch, this class will offer a unique perspective on the process from start to finish. This class aims to demonstrate the utilization of both Revit and Navisworks Manage software in developing these construction drawings for a simpler workflow in the field, as well as a more cohesive coordination process. We will discuss modeling strategies utilizing various Revit add-ins to ensure efficient workflow, reducing rework in the coordination process. We will also discuss utilizing Fabrication CADmep software in the development of custom Revit fabrication parts. Finally, we will learn about the various types of drawings that are utilized most readily in the field.
