As a part of the Infrastructure Design Suite PowerTrack, this class will focus on taking the completed project design to the next level with visualization, construction coordination, and finally, incorporating the project back into the original regional infrastructure model. This class will take models created in AutoCAD® Civil 3D® software and use them as the foundation for workflows in Autodesk® 3ds Max® Design, Autodesk® Navisworks® Manage and Autodesk® Infrastructure Modeler software. Autodesk® Vault Collaboration AEC software, and the Autodesk® 360 cloud computing platform will be used throughout the process for collaboration, analysis, and more.

Traditionally, teams rely on desktop tools for coordination (e.g., model visualization, clash detection and issue resolution), often leading to a convoluted process with limited access to information. Today, cloud-based tools like Autodesk Construction Cloud or BIM360 can be used to streamline coordination during both design and construction—ultimately offering greater transparency and improving collaboration among owners, designers, stakeholders and construction managers. Using real project examples, we’ll explore how to replicate this workflow in the cloud, so teams can run coordination and review clashes directly in Revit—without exporting files to Navisworks. We’ll also preview the best Revit settings for publishing, sharing coordinates and building stories; demonstrate how to combine and align Revit and CAD files per level; illustrate how to view assigned issues and make changes in Revit; and review similar processes in Navisworks for those unable to transition fully to the cloud.

With next generation technology, much of the model coordination process has been transformed through automation and digital collaboration, democratizing the model coordination experience for VDC managers and trade teams. But a truly coordinated experience isn’t possible without connecting all parts of BIM data from design to plan to build. This session will cover the “bare bones” setup of an Autodesk Docs central file-sharing site with granular permissions for use by a construction team during building information modeling (BIM) coordination. A builder’s construction technology manager will demonstrate how Autodesk Collaborate supported by Autodesk add-ins can be used as a shared on-demand syncing tool for teams that still favor Navisworks Manage to run clash detection between a diverse mix of trade partners working both in and out of the cloud. Autodesk technical experts will provide supplementary advice along the way to show how teams can make use of new features in the Autodesk Construction Cloud environment to take this strategy to the next level by removing roadblocks seen in previous versions of the product.

We'll focus on some advanced techniques and best practices in Revit software in order to help facilitate an easier BIM coordination process using Navisworks Manage software. We also look into how Point Layout, Total Stations, and related tools have revolutionized how trade subcontractors optimize their processes and facilitate prefabrication and installation. We'll also cover the current developments in Revit software's latest fabrication capabilities and how it is supplanting the traditional AutoCAD market share.

The key factor in delivering fully coordinated construction models is a closed-loop clash management system that allows stakeholders to identify and address potential clashes early in the project lifecycle. This results in reduced risks of delays and cost overruns, thus increasing project efficiency and enhancing project quality. In this session we explore the various plugins for Navisworks and Revit that we use to streamline the BIM Coordination process and show how our workflow has been optimized using a combination of Model Coordination and Navisworks to achieve an issue free model. We will discuss setting up the Model Coordination space, breaking up coordination models into manageable sizes, clash grouping, automated viewpoint creation in Navisworks using Holobuilder, and creating 3D Room Tags using Dynamo. We will also discuss using search sets, selection sets, appearance profilers, batch utilities, automated nwc exports, and using ACC Build during coordination in this session.
