Integrated Factory Modeling: The Digital Story of a Factory
When planning a factory, many trades, project participants, and disciplines are involved. This presentation will show you an end-to-end digital process called the integrated factory model (IFM). The coordination of all project-relevant data is the basis of an end-to-end digital process and is largely responsible for the success of a project. A simple 3D construction space model gives each project participant their workspace. There, for example, the layout planner carries out process simulation and line planning with the Factory Design Utilities software. Due to the adjacent construction spaces, collisions with other layouts or the building equipment can be detected and eliminated at a very early stage. All data is continuously merged, checked, and adjusted in an overall coordination model in BIM 360 software.

The Future of Integrated Factory Model Collaboration

Building projects are already realized with the innovative Autodesk Forma, a data and collaboration platform enabling different planning disciplines and teams to work together in a common data environment. In a factory planning project, those planning disciplines are enhanced with teams needing to integrate complex production lines, conveyor systems, steel structure, and even logistics equipment. Hidden behind firewalls, software installed and running on-premise forces teams to handle time-consuming and inefficient data exchange, disconnected collaboration tracking processes, and inadequate viewing and reviewing of tasks. This class will demonstrate how Autodesk’s Cloud Services make it possible to efficiently exchange data between on-premise systems and cloud solutions (off premise). We’ll showcase and provide a best-practice approach, and cover how to set up a model coordination space in Forma Design Collaboration to manage a holistic factory model, its clashes and issues, and its review tasks.

ECOFACT (Eco-Innovative Energy FACTory Management System)
ECOFACT is a €12 million, Horizon 2020, EU-funded project made up of 20 consortium members from several European countries aiming at developing an ECO-innovative energy factory management platform using improved dynamic LCA/LCCA toward holistic manufacturing sustainability. The platform will be deployed in four different demo sites: a biscuit factory (Gullon), a Stellantis Group automotive factory (Tofas), a Heineken Group brewery (Athenian Brewery) and a multinational household appliances factory (Arçelik). One team is leading the development of the digital twin platform (DTP), based on Autodesk Forge software and composed of production lines, 3D models, and different applications (material-flow simulations, energy simulations, production planning and scheduling, industrial energy disaggregation, and industrial energy flexibility). The DTP will display simulation results and real-time Internet of Things (IoT) data alongside the 3D models maximizing Autodesk Forge functionalities.

Using Autodesk Forge to Automate Model Simplification for BIM Coordination
One of the challenges in 3D factory equipment layouts is the high Level of Detail (LOD) of vendor-supplied equipment models used in factory layouts and 3D model coordination, resulting in large file sizes degrading the performance of the federated model. Reducing the LOD to a manageable size takes up to 70 hours of manual editing for each project. Goodyear manages 30-40 projects each year. To solve this problem, Goodyear worked with Autodesk to develop and deploy an Autodesk Forge application to automate the process of lightweighting vendor models to be used within the layout of equipment in a 3D environment. Through automation, we’ve achieved a 97% reduction in the time it takes to prepare the equipment models. The automation has achieved an up to 74% file-size reduction with both a high and low LOD representation. In this session, we’ll describe this project from inception to deployment, cover the challenges we overcame, and demonstrate the application and the efficiency we’ve achieved.

SLI: At the Forefront of Industrialized Construction
After a 14-year journey through multiple iterations, SLI has arrived at a point where it can build a 14-story high-rise structure in a factory and assemble it on a jobsite as if it was a kit of parts. But we’re far from the end of the journey. For example, we're now 60% of the way from completing a load-bearing version of our solution that will be assembled as a low-rise residential home for people experiencing homelessness. Without significant refinement in our manufacturing processes and assembly processes, we won’t achieve the level of affordability that we intend for our solution to provide. So, we clearly understand the necessity of transforming our design manufacturing and delivery processes via a comprehensive use of digital tools. Our partnership with Autodesk is intended to be a mutually beneficial collaboration as a result of our bringing to Autodesk all of our current and past experiences gleaned from our industrialized construction journey.

On the Road Again: Using Apple's iPad in the Field
Tablets and smartphones are ubiquitous and extremely powerful, in both in our daily lives and our professional workflows. But how can we use them in our CAD lives? The AutoCAD web app lets us use the copious amounts of data we include in our DWG™ files anywhere we are. Whether in the coffee shop, on the factory floor, or in the middle of a field (cell signal notwithstanding), you can get to your DWG files in the cloud, make changes to the native geometry, and share your changes with others. Other apps can help you complete your workflow, from marking up prints to sharing designs. This class will go through the basics of adding cloud access to the AutoCAD web app, drawing new geometry, and modifying existing work, as well as pulling information such as dimensions and areas from your drawings. We’ll also cover best practices and access for non-AutoCAD users, as well as some additional apps that can be useful in the field.
