Our firm has grown from 15 to 22 offices in less than 7 years. Of those offices, 19 are in the United States, but the other 3 are Canada, Mexico, and Panama. Working in collaboration with all these offices has presented its challenges with regard to software licensing, data exchange, model sharing, and many others aspects. This class aims to share some of the obstacles, hits and misses, and approaches our firm has encountered and applied. We will discuss network and Internet issues, hardware solutions, cloud solutions, and some unique approaches.

This class will cover using different cloud products such as Fusion 360 software, Fusion Team, and Shared Views to further collaboration between companies and suppliers.

In this session, we’ll go through the BIM 360 APIs that have been recently added and are in-pipeline for near future releases. By Autodesk University Las Vegas time frame, we hope to cover the new Model Coordination API and Cost API, a newer version of Admin API, various enhancements to Field Management API, and more. This class assumes your familiarity with BIM 360 products and basic web programming knowledge, such as HTML and REST API. Hands-on experience with Forge APIs will be a plus, but is not necessary for decision makers.

In this class, we will talk about everything you need to know to get started with Simulation in Fusion 360 software. We will look at how to take advantage of simulation in the context of your Fusion 360 design, the benefits of simulation being tied to the cloud for both solving and collaboration, the problems types that can be solved, and the basic steps to get up and running with your first simulation.

Do you use AutoCAD software or any other AutoCAD-based product, and draw in 2D? Do you use another 3D product such as SketchUp or Rhino to draw your 3D objects outside of AutoCAD? If you’re interested in using 3D objects in your workflow but think it’s too complicated, don’t be afraid of the 3D dimension in AutoCAD. In this class, everyone can learn the basics of creating 3D objects with AutoCAD. We’ll show you how to use the tools in AutoCAD to make 3D objects that you can then use in AutoCAD or other Autodesk products.

The Mortenson|McCarthy joint venture team is currently building the $1.9 billion domed stadium. To overcome the aggressive schedule, scale and complexity the project is supported by a culture that fosters an innovative approach to implementing advanced technology, processes and lean construction methodology. In this session Joel Jacobson, and his 3+ years of managing Drone deployment on large-scale Mortenson projects, will share his unique approach to partnering with industry experts such as Dustin Williams of FlywheelAEC to deliver enhanced project awareness and improved communication across the entire Las Vegas Stadium project team. Joel and Dustin will share and discuss best practices, future outlook observed within the industry, and will demonstrate the lessons learned and data visualizations produced as a result of effective planning and coordination.

Only a few years ago, we saw the introduction of new technologies such as 3D parametric and intelligent bidirectional design tools. Now we are trying to retrofit them to serve our ability to design and deliver products in ways that are very complex. We've heard a lot about the trends and tools, but we have spent little time addressing the impact on the people in our organizations. We can teach skill sets, but shifting people's approach to design, collaboration, and build among themselves, their consultants, and clients through technology is now an urgent issue that may decide between the success and failure of our financial investments. In this roundtable session, we look at the key variables that keep our staff from embracing this new way of doing business. We provoke the legal, financial, cultural and technological aspects of our transformation, only to realize that we have years of processes to undo to make our new approach worth investing in.

The world of manufacturing and production technology is constantly changing. The uprising of the maker movement has seen many people gaining access to an array of machinery and technology on a scale never before seen and opening many doors that were previously locked solid, encouraging many ideas to become reality that have previously been unachievable. Micromanufacturing is the transformation of dreams and ideas into reality through the use of low-cost, minimalistic production technology and equipment in home-style businesses across the globe. In this class, we’ll cover the evolution of micromanufacturing, the ability it has to transform small ideas into viable products for a fraction of the cost of traditional manufacture, and some real-world applications for micromanufacturing in an innovative, small-scale production environment.

In 2016, Fayetteville, AR, began planning a 70,000-square-foot expansion to their existing library. The project adds innovative, community-focused spaces where patrons can develop photography, experience VR, and host large-scale events. One challenge identified by the owner was how to manage the equipment in both the new addition and the existing building. The facilities team decided to use BIM 360 Ops software as their computerized maintenance management system and engaged a consultant to streamline the data-import process. This class will explain the process and key considerations for successful integration of BIM 360 Ops for existing and new construction. The team worked together to establish the asset list to ensure streamlined import of data from the facility’s existing documentation and the expansion’s design and construction data. The completed project brings the library’s asset information into one place, enabling staff to effectively operate and maintain the expanded building.

In this class we will cover the process of how our office went from having engineering and planning completely separated to merging the two departments into a shared workflow. It will cover a variety of lessons learned throughout this process. How we were able to utilize the power of filters and families to make our Revit Fabrication drawings look like a standard engineering drawing set. How we had to go back and completely rework our standard Revit templates and families. The class will really focus on how some upfront hassle and frustration of a few individuals has turned into a team that can still create engineering documents at the same pace but now these drawings are bring true value to our planning and preconstruction departments. Finally, we are streamlining our coordination process so when it comes time to start clash detection and shop drawings we are weeks if not months ahead of the team.

As our global population increases, remote indigenous communities are compelled to develop to accommodate growth and responsible tourism. Technology is now available to support and promote development of remote communities in an environmentally and culturally sustainable manner. Specifically, photogrammetry and virtual reality (VR) enable effective decisions about sensitive development by empowering stakeholders with intuitive, immersive experiences of site conditions from new points of view. This session will present a recent project on the remote Fiji island of Vorovoro, executed as a joint effort between an indigenous island tribe, a university construction management program, a social enterprise promoting positive social impact, and a global AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) software corporation. The collaborative team created a feasibility study for a dam to retain fresh water on the island; developed new data workflows; and used drones, VR, and cloud-based collaboration platforms with a Forge partner.

With next generation technology, much of the model coordination process has been transformed through automation and digital collaboration, democratizing the model coordination experience for VDC managers and trade teams. But a truly coordinated experience isn’t possible without connecting all parts of BIM data from design to plan to build. This session will show you how Autodesk is delivering on this new level of connected model coordination and how integrated workflows will deliver best-in-class coordination capabilities.

Have you experienced any of these issues with AutoCAD products: slow opening of drawings, crashing, pausing within AutoCAD, and slow plotting? Clients, subconsultants, and approving agencies often have DWG™ files that get corrupted. This can cause loss of work and missed deadlines. Drawing corruption can range from small, annoying issues to being unable to open or print files. This corruption can affect your files and spread across your projects rapidly. In this session, we’ll explore methodologies and workflows to prevent files from getting corrupted due to internal and external factors. We’ll review eight things that cause drawing slowness, and we’ll show how to repair the drawings.

In this class, we will create a project in A360 cloud-based collaboration service. We will learn how to invite project contributors. We will review the differences between project contributors and team members, and we’ll change rights to demonstrate the differences. Once the project is set up on A360, we will learn how to host a cloud Revit software model on the A360 project we created. We will also review added features, such as publishing to A360 and the Communicator. At the end of the class, you will be able to host Revit software models to the cloud for projects, communicate with the project team effectively, and invite the team to contribute to the desired project. Learn how to create basic bridge components in Inventor software. InfraWorks software can accept custom piers, girders, abutments, decks, and foundations created as IPT files in Inventor. In this class, you’ll model a parametric pier in Inventor and use Shape Modeler to prepare it for use in InfraWorks. Once in InfraWorks, we’ll export the bridge to Revit software.

Providing construction project teams with complete, accurate, and construction-ready design documentation is one of the best ways to ensure that design intent is met during construction. During the design process, there are many stakeholders that play a role in development of design documentation—from architects and CAD managers, to virtual design and construction teams, owners, contractors, and trades. But not everybody works in the same location or at the same time. Using the cloud to support collaboration during the design process can connect these stakeholders, and this class will discuss how to easily bring designs from AutoCAD software, Revit software, Civil 3D software, and AutoCAD Plant 3D software into Construction Cloud to support cloud-based collaboration.

This session will provide multiple tips on ReCap indexing, editing, collaboration, and project management workflow from an experienced ReCap developer's point of view. You will learn how to make the best use of ReCap to improve work efficiency on reality captured projects. Also, the ReCap development team will be happy to answer questions about and provide insights into the ReCap features.

During this presentation, we provide an overview of Mockup 360™, a new cloud-based digital mockup tool for manufacturing industries. Mockup 360 removes many of the existing barriers to working collaboratively on full 3D mockups, such as model size, cost, IT implementation, and limited sharing. Mockup 360 works seamlessly with Autodesk® Product Design Suite, Factory Design Suite, and Inventor® software by allowing users to directly upload their 3D models into mockups and share with colleagues, suppliers, and customers. In addition to introducing the product, we outline typical workflows that take advantage of the power of the truly open collaboration in Mockup 360. After this class, attendees should be comfortable with the basic concept of the product and be able to make a decision on whether Mockup 360 can improve their design processes.

Connected design collaborations need to be contextually relevant with the ability to easily manage what aspects of the design we share, with whom we share, when we share, and how we share. In a roundtable format, facilitators will generate lively discussion around key collaboration topics for Inventor software, including IP management, viewing strategies, and design reuse. To explore IP management, the facilitators will demonstrate possible future scenarios then host a discussion to tease out what aspects of a design are considered IP in different situations. To explore viewing strategies, we will do a small-group exercise to envision what actions we'd want collaborators to take on shared designs (commenting, markup, and beyond), occasions when we'd want collaborations to be asynchronous versus live, and other topics. To get at design reuse, we will do a prioritization exercise to understand which metadata is most helpful when striving to quickly find the closest design to the project as well as what is needed to understand history of design changes.
