Mandy VFX is a boutique post-production facility which caters to clients and agencies both large and small. Mandy runs state of the art VFX and post-production software/hardware and caters with full client service facilities. As well as a in-house VFX artist they have a range of regular freelance operators available for specific projects. Digital Video Technologies (DVT) has been working with Mandy since their inception in 2009 providing hardware, software and workflow solutions for their Autodesk Flame and Blackmagic Resolve systems. Mandy needed to upgrade the hardware of their main Autodesk Flame system and consulted with DVT on the options available and concluded that we would commission a new HP Z8 workstation with the full Autodesk recommended specifications.

Project goals

Mandy had these key goals in mind and one of it is to update their main Autodesk Flame suite to support the latest version of the software. Next is to provide their inhouse and freelance Autodesk Flame artists with a cutting-edge working experience. Lastly, would be to complete the upgrade in a timely fashion.

Solution

Initially DVT worked with HP and our HP distributors to order the correct Autodesk certified system. However, due to the severe slowdown in supply of electronic components due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, the delivery of this system suffered significant delays. Further complications arose when the system arrived and it was discovered that it had been damaged in transit. DVT prides itself on delivering on our project timelines and budgets and was dismayed at the impact this would cause to Mandy. After pressing HP hard to have this rectified and get a replacement system ordered, DVT implemented a temporary solution to enable Mandy to get up and running with a new system on the latest version of Autodesk Flame.

Business outcome

Mandy and its inhouse and freelance Flame artists are now able to utilise the latest features of Autodesk Flame to be more creative and productive on their upcoming projects. Mandy’s partnership with an extremely well-resourced reseller like DVT enabled an interim solution to be put into place during a period where there was severe business disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This business partnership with DVT, enables Mandy to focus on their core business and not waste internal resources on the details caused by factors beyond their control.
