This roundtable session looks beyond rail tracks, and outlines the workflows for running a rail project from planning through detailed design and construction sharing design data. We discuss design of civil-based structures, such as platforms and combining it all with station building design. We also discuss checking the track design from a driver's point of view for signal sight analysis.

The rail infrastructure industry has large-scale challenges: design integration of many diverse engineering disciplines, asset combinations that bring together the entire building information modeling (BIM) lifecycle, and projects that have operations running for decades rather than a couple of years. These challenges need more than just one product; they require a platform solution that can grow and evolve over time. In the last decade, Autodesk has been investing heavily in improving specific railway infrastructure solutions in combination with a strong platform foundation. This class will give an overview of the entire rail lifecycle and how Autodesk supports its defining processes: measuring and modeling existing situations, feasibility studies, multidisciplinary/integrated design, site execution, project collaboration, and handover. This class content is based on Autodesk consultancy and product teams’ rail infrastructure background and partnerships with industry leaders, resulting in a comprehensive rail overview.

Using models enhances AI-driven railway operations, resulting in significant improvements in efficiency and reliability. The use of digital twins in the rail industry is growing globally, with rail systems adopting them to optimize asset management and operational strategies. These systems use building information modeling (BIM) data to facilitate seamless integrations from planning to execution and operations. This presentation will address the issues of data integrity, accessibility, and cross-stakeholders collaboration, with an emphasis on the solutions to enhance the analysis of data and the resilience of systems. This session will also offer insights into future rail advances, with a particular focus on how digital twins can be used in the evolution of railway operations into intelligent, secure, and environmentally conscious systems.

In every rail Building Information Modeling (BIM) project that you make, you need the most effective options to help you make the right decision. InfraWorks software can help you to do this. With the software's capacity to analyze many scenarios, you can make several proposals and choose the most effective one to fulfill the basic premises of the project, and you can show these proposals in easy form to all stakeholders. Then you can use the Rail Layout Module in AutoCAD Civil 3D software to make the final project, and, with all analysis made, you can generate reports and the final documentation and deliver the most effective rail project you've ever created.

Design for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA) principles play an integral part in the development of prefabrication and modular building construction projects. In this class, we'll discuss specific lessons learned in applying DfMA to building construction for designers, construction managers, and trade partners. Using examples from recent projects, we'll explore the processes and tools used to make DfMA successful. We'll highlight the best practices and strategies for implementing DfMA to projects all along the spectrum of prefabrication, from single trade assemblies to full structural volumetric modules, and how we're pushing the boundaries in utilizing Revit, Navisworks, and Autodesk Construction Cloud in the design of industrialized construction projects. By the end of the presentation, you will have a deeper understanding of the DfMA rules and rails for building construction and how to apply them to your own projects.

InfraWorks software is a perfect tool when it comes to optioneering, and Civil 3D software is the right tool to create design drawings. But how do we exchange data between the two of them when InfraWorks doesn’t have a proper "rail" setup? This class will guide you through the creation of the right environment that will enable you to send data between the two platforms and use component road to mimic rails in InfraWorks while still maintaining a proper rail alignment in Civil 3D to calculate cant and use the drawing production tools. It is all about the proper use of Data Shortcuts and some tips and trick. What happens when you’ve made some changes to the option already exported? What happens to the drawings already produced? Qatar Rail is in the process of constructing a state-of-the art railway system valued at more than USD$40 billion and comprising of a 37-station metro and a 38-station light rail transit to support Qatar's 2030 Vision. One of the key decisions made at the start of the project involved a comprehensive contractual Building Information Modeling (BIM) mandate. The BIM process is currently being used extensively by all contractors in the design and construction phases of the project, and will soon be used as the foundation for the maintenance management system and throughout the eventual operations and maintenance of the railway. This class will take the attendees through the journey of Qatar Rail's one-of-a-kind BIM implementation from design through to operations. You will receive a thorough account of the successes, challenges, and lessons learned from the point of view of an owner/operator that has embarked on one of the most ambitious infrastructure BIM programs ever attempted. The Grand Paris Express (GPE) is a major automated metro infrastructure project in Paris, with a new 200-kilometer tunnel line. The maintenance site (depot) is a key structure in a limited space inserted into a dense urban environment. This situation leads to numerous challenging conflicts between the rail and building design. In this class, we will share Systra’s experience on project Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementation, and show how BIM can be used for rail infrastructure design. You will also discover how BIM can be effective for track alignment, utilities, hydrology, catenary, and telecom when interfacing with architecture, structure, and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) services. BIM has been used on this project to facilitate data exchange—especially between a civil design with AutoCAD Civil 3D software and architectural design with Revit software—but also to improve 3D coordination and design review. This session features AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit.

The tools we use are Civil 3D and Revit. The class will demonstrate methods of achieving efficient collaboration between the technologies and align to project milestone. Attendees will gain knowledge on the lessons learn & decision making process for the correct outcome for the project. Attendees will also learn how the Autodesk's features compliment the design processes that help make this successful. The session will cover the following topics, the importance of model structures, roles and responsibilities among the design teams, projects setups and key steps. Real world coordinates and management for model coordination and future uses. Finally we will go through the key steps for effective technical workflows for Civil 3D datasets in Revit Projects.

Contemporary rail projects are vastly complex due to an intersection of several key factors. The deliverables and support that agencies and contractors ask for are scaling with new technology. These technologies are relatively new to the rail design space, and there are currently no precedents for implementing them. On two similar rail projects, tailored workflows and custom automation tools were developed in order to deliver the required standard documentation, visualization, clash detection, and asset management deliverables. The synergy between automation, connected BIM, and creative project workflow were essential to the execution of these projects. In this session, we’ll examine the project needs, collaboration between BIM 360 software and ProjectWise, and automation with the Subassembly Composer, Dynamo, Forge, and LISP.

This panel will discuss the achievements and challenges of the successful Intercity rail project in Norway. The panel will include Building Information Modeling (BIM) experts from the fields of design, construction, and government who will all share their perspectives on this highly collaborative, fast-paced project. Intercity is a 250-plus km rail project with both new and existing right of ways passing through dozens of municipalities and multiple other jurisdictions. In each jurisdiction, there are different stakeholders and variable legal considerations for cultural, historic, environmental, social, and esthetic standards, all of which were addressed via InfraWorks 360 software representations. The project has been split into sections, each being designed by a different company or partnership, so collaboration between sections and the Rail administration has been key to their success. This class will show you how to use InfraWorks software for conceptual design of rail projects and development of proposals and scenarios. You will learn how to use Revit software content in InfraWorks software to create and detail projects and create better presentations; export information to AutoCAD Civil 3D software to analyze and create advanced documentation; and create an advanced model in Revit software, with terrain, infrastructures, rail lines, bridges, roads.

This presentation aims to demonstrate the ease of the Autodesk Construction Cloud setup and what an administrator (Qatar Rail) needs to do in order to set up and manage Autodesk Construction Cloud to address increased requirements and responsibilities, as well as additional interface between each civil design-and-build project and system integrator. We will showcase the process of how Qatar Rail selected the preferred Autodesk Construction Cloud setup option, showing the pros and cons of each. And we will demonstrate management of the megadata within a cloud-based environment. We’ll also examine the establishment of a BIM policy that mandates BIM use on all future projects. And we'll cover the challenges associated with BIM implementation. Furthermore, you’ll learn how BIM can be an enabler for Construction Modeling. And you’ll see how it’s used for the operation and maintenance of Qatar Rail assets.

This is a significant project being undertaken in Southeast Asia, and contains many road crossovers, 15 stations and stockyards, as well as a large number of bridges, viaducts, and tunnels. The development of this project will showcase the contractor’s investment in the ability to develop workflows that can be automated and scaled from various resources to generate the solutions for fast review for construction and auditing for the independent reviewer and the government body. This class will cover a quick review of the project and then dive into the consultants, support, and standards that provided automation workflows to deliver outcomes and deliverables. We will look at a Dynamo, Revit software, BIM 360 software, InfraWorks software, Civil 3D software, and Navisworks, in an ecosystem that was developed to meet the transport bodies’ requirements. This project is ongoing, and we will look at the works and milestones delivered to date.

Designing, building, and maintaining a metro line to match the needs of increasing mobility in dense urban areas involves some challenges: constraints on localization, connections with the existing network, works under operation, concomitance of the construction site, safety of traffic and traveler flows, and so on. We'll present new Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementations through different metro projects in France: Grand Paris Express and extension of the networks around the French capital and Toulouse Aerospace Express. BIM is applied on different transportation project phases. The 3D models cover all the works of rail infrastructure, including underground and aerial stations, and tunnels and bridges. With these extra BIM uses covering the entire rail infrastructure, we'll outline the benefits of BIM uses.

For infrastructure projects like rail and road, you can’t use a single software to create the model that satisfies the needs of current requirements in digital build and digital engineering. In this class, you will learn when you should use Revit software in your workflow. You’ll learn how to set up the Revit model for an infrastructure project. You’ll learn how to create long section drawings using Revit. And you’ll learn how to create a high Level Of Detail (LOD) model for overhead wire structure, drainage, retaining wall and fencing, and more.

This presentation will focus on implementation of building information modeling (BIM) and Autodesk Platform Services within Qatar Rail Metro from a client's perspective. The key challenges we'll highlight include the collaboration of 100+ external contributors and the effective management of megadata throughout 11, simultaneous, interlinked project lifecycles (especially during operation). We'll showcase the key innovations and workflows adopted to overcome these challenges. We'll discuss integration of BIM into the project framework, emphasizing benefits gained from inception to operational excellence. We'll trace the evolution of BIM within the project and its impact on project coordination and efficiency. This session will demonstrate the current importance of BIM in enabling Qatar Rail to manage mega-assets and associated BIM data, and we'll cover the value of Autodesk Platform Services in optimizing workflows across organization to drive cost efficiencies.
