In this class we will introduce MuCell molding technology and discuss advances in the simulation of this manufacturing process within Simulation Moldflow Insight software.

The Simulation Moldflow Insight Certification Exams will be held Monday, December 1, at Mandalay Bay J from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In this session we will look at BIM 360 Glue software and show how to use it with AutoCAD Plant 3D software.

A transformer's external insulation cover is an important part that has a significant influence in the transformer's security and reliability. During recent years these covers have been manufactured using traditional processes that do not incorporate much technology in the design process. However, we can use Simulation Moldflow software in a way that would enable us to optimize the process and the design of the cover, thereby achieving a suitable design that could still comply with the electrical isolation needs and mechanical and shape objectives, as well as reduce the current cost of the material and the process. In this class we'll explore how well the module correlates with real-world molded samples, we'll determine the most effective approach for using the thermoset module to optimize an electrical component, and we'll discuss any current solver limitations.

This class will look at a new feature in Autodesk PLM 360 software: Classification. We will review a production use of the feature in the Electrical Components International (ECI) tenant, and we will perform a small demo that will show the potential use of the power of Classification in Autodesk PLM 360 software.

 Moldflow Insight software is used to develop automotive interior and exterior in China’s Chang’an Automobile Group, from the stage of engineering design to part's structure design then to mold design and molding condition optimize also include the trouble shooting after the first trial. Based on the comparison between the experiment and Moldflow Insight results, Chang’an successfully built an analysis standard and results judge standard. With the help of API, Chang’an created many programs to automatically do the model create, molding condition optimize, results judge, and so on. To meet the assessment criteria of GDT which was used on the part of motor, normally defined the tolerance of fit. Changan's analyst explore and studied a new way to simulate and examine the part's GDT by co-work with Moldflow Insight, Digimat, and Abaqus. This class will use many actual case to show these application, through that we can see the benefit of use right  Moldflow Insight application strategy in the development of automotive interior and exterior new part.

Rapid prototyping is increasingly being used in the production of injection molding inserts. This technology enables for much lower lead times in prototype and low-volume production. However, the thermal and structural properties of prototyped inserts are different than those of conventional machined inserts. The focus of this class is to use Simulation Moldflow Insight software to evaluate the thermal and mechanical behavior of rapid prototyped injection molding inserts. We will look at 3 sets of inserts that were analyzed using different manufacturing techniques and materials, which included selective laser sintered (SLS) bronze, PolyJet ABS-like material, and conventional machined stainless steel. Molding trials were performed on the inserts, as were computer simulations. The experimental and simulated results were compared for the thermal gradient, structural performance, part warpage, and part shrinkage.

This class is about the experiments and simulations related to the microcellular injection molding. The experiments are part of the research done at the Microcellular Plastics Manufacturing Laboratory at the University of Toronto. We will present 3 topics related to the experiments. The first will be on the visualization studies on the bubble nucleation and growth. We will examine the effects of process conditions. The second will be on the use of mold opening (core-back) for the microcellular injection molding. The third will be on the effects of bubbles on the fiber orientation in the microcellular injection molding. We will use some of the experimental results (such as bubble nucleation/growth and the mold-opening experiment) in the simulation with  Moldflow Insight software. We will discuss the correlation between the experimental and simulation results, and we will also present some case studies related to microcellular injection molding and core-back processes.
