This class will focus on the effective use of Custom Objects in Vault Professional data management software to replace spreadsheet-based tracking systems. In addition, you will become familiar with other opportunities to put Custom Objects to work in your environment.

The AutoCAD Custom User Interface File (CUIX) is a tad more complex and can be daunting to even a seasoned AutoCAD veteran. In this class, you learn how to add commands to AutoCAD, creating new tabs and panels for your workspace. You learn to add a custom partial menu to the main customization file and how to incorporate the enterprise CUIX.

This class is an introduction to Maya customization for customers who would like to create automation and/or improve efficiency when using the product. Some programming experience will be helpful. You will learn about the benefits of customizing Maya and gain the confidence to create your first plug-in using the Python API. Note that you can easily reproduce all concepts in the C++ environment as well.

Learn how to start building custom bridge components using both Inventor software and Revit software for use in InfraWorks software. We’ll briefly examine the InfraWorks-centered bridge workflow and identify where custom components can be beneficial. We’ll work up two specific examples using both of the available methods and covering the benefits of each. Then we’ll use those newly created components in InfraWorks and see how they can be manipulated to a final state within the bridge itself ready for the workflow to continue.

In this class, you will learn to create custom content for both Autodesk® P&ID and Autodesk Plant 3D software. We will focus on using tools such as legacy AutoCAD® data, previously created AutoCAD 3D solids, and Autodesk® Inventor® to create the content. You will learn to create and modify custom symbols. We will also show you how to create and maintain project templates that contain custom content as well as how to copy custom content from one project to another.

At its core, AutoCAD software is a platform that you can extend to automate workflows to manage projects and streamline design processes. While there are many benefits to extending AutoCAD, managing the resulting custom files and settings can be challenging. AutoCAD provides a variety of tools to help you develop various custom files and settings, but much is left up to you regarding how you should manage files and settings and eventually migrate them to a newer release. This class will demonstrate effective practices for creating, sharing, and maintaining custom Dynamo extension nodes. The class will use Python scripting and DesignScript programming language to customize the Dynamo extension, and we'll explore effective practices for curating reusable nodes for sharing through the package manager. Finally, the class will showcase custom Dynamo extension packages, authored by the presenter, and walk through how these packages are used and maintained for the user community.

The graphical column schedule (GCS) in Revit® Structure may be a system family that cannot be edited in the Family Editor, but this does not mean that it cannot be customized. This class discusses how the graphical column schedule can be customized to suit your needs. We demonstrate how to create parameters within the column families so that information, such as base plate sizes and detail information, shows up dynamically in information boxes within the GCS. We also cover how to create custom column tags. The main focus of the class is to show how to schedule steel columns; however, the fundamentals of this class can also be applied to concrete, concrete masonry units (CMU), or even timber columns.

Creating custom bridge parts ready for modeling transportation projects in InfraWorks software can be challenging for the uninitiated. This class will provide the chance to learn how to create these parts using both the Revit and Inventor methodologies from scratch in a hands-on environment. We will look at the benefits of each method and how each can be incorporated into a transportation project and progressed through the workflow from modeling in InfraWorks to the documentation phase in Revit. These techniques will be worked through in the context of bridge engineering, but they will also be applicable to tunneling.

Everyone approaches AutoCAD software differently, so in this hands-on lab we cover several approaches to customizing and launching commands. After creating a workspace, we will create a custom panel on the ribbon to hold your favorite commands, and we'll also see how to add the same commands to the Quick Access toolbar. As some of you know, I'm a Tool Palette junkie, so we'll see how a button on the Tool Palette may result in a better approach. For the keyboarders, we'll create a 1-line lisp, and we'll edit the ACAD.PGP file for aliases. But what about those rollover tips and the content of Quick Properties? We'll also check those out. In addition to some quality time in the Customize User Interface, we will also present tips along the way, all of which I hope will result in a more efficient and productive daily AutoCAD experience.

In this class you will learn some useful steps to customize content to use in your AutoCAD P&ID software projects. We will lead you through accessing the project setup and understanding what you can edit. We will particularly focus on accessing engineering items. This will involve creating custom equipment, inline assets, instrumentation, and lines. In addition you will learn how to create unique tagging and custom off-page connectors.

AutoCAD uses grips showed with a selected object not only to provide visual hints of the object—such as start/end/center points, or mid/tangent points or vertices—but also, more importantly, to provide shortcuts to various operations against the object, such as stretch, move, rotation, and scale. Other AutoCAD-based applications (Civil 3D software, AutoCAD Architecture software, AutoCAD MEP software, and so on) use custom grips with architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) entities extensively. Fortunately, with .NET API, we can add custom grips to an AutoCAD object for our own specialized operation against the selected object. This session will show you a few practical examples of using custom grips.
