This class will show you how to assess the existing collaborative methods in a Building Information Modeling (BIM) project (Building or Infrastructure) using the Bew-Richards BIM Maturity Model and BS1192 as a reference standard. We will then explain how to identify the potential gaps that could lead to delays and cost inefficiencies and how to eliminate the gaps using workflows and software technology. Typically BIM projects involve multiple disciplines and multiple organizations. To collaborate efficiently and effectively among different disciplines and across different organizations, it is essential to have standard methods and procedures and a common data environment with clearly defined roles and responsibilities.

As Project Integrator on the B2 Modular Housing Project at Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn, New York, SHoP Construction (SC) is currently implementing the Autodesk BIM 360 Glue™ cloud-based management solution to provide comprehensive collaboration across the project team and model supply chain. Starting in 2010 on the Barclays Center Arena in Brooklyn, NY, SHoP Construction prototyped a web-based portal that enabled project stakeholders to track the fabrication and installation progress of 12,000 uniquely sized weathered steel panels for the facade. The constantly updated SC 4D sequencing model evolved into a critical tool for the design-build team to understand the impact of production and schedule changes. This class will focus on how Autodesk BIM 360 services and web-based portals enable improved project visualization and information access for all project stakeholders. The class will demonstrate how to move from linear workflows to real-time collaboration with hyperlinks to access live data. We will highlight how the project team is using Autodesk BIM 360 to streamline the team’s transition from design development through to the factory production phase of the work for the largest prefab modular building in the world

This class discusses the results of an Advanced Infrastructure Analysis Technology assessment recently conducted by Autodesk Consulting for a major electric and gas utility that has over 15 million customers. A key focus of the engagement was the evaluation of emerging mobile and visualization technologies of potential benefit to the client's gas transmission and distribution network operations for both the short-term and long-term replacement of current mobile solutions. In this class, we demonstrate a number of Autodesk products, including InfraWorks civil infrastructure design software, ReCap™ reality capture software, and Autodesk® PLM 360 cloud-based product lifecycle management software. We highlight current advances in emerging technologies, including reality capture and augmented reality. We discuss the business requirements that were identified, the current limitations and advantages of each solution, and the final short-term and long-term recommendations that were presented.

There are so many enterprise-level technologies and business tools in use. Which one is the right one to use? Doesn't ERP do everything? And I'm sure I heard that new CRM tools can do more than everything as well. But what about PDM and PLM, where do they fit? Do they fit? Aren't they the complicated tools used only in engineering? This class aims to lift the confusion around enterprise technologies, where and how they fit together, and how they can be used collaborativley to provide the right tools for the job.

Facility management (FM) or 6D has been discussed as a huge benefit to owners, but very few owners take advantage of this because it typically requires significant forethought and investment prior to construction. We wanted to see we could implement this after construction. We’ll dive into a case study of a small 8,400-square-foot, net-zero structure, and look at several approaches to BIM-based FM. The study will also discuss what elements were deemed worthwhile tracking as opposed to those that were nice to have. We’ll cover how much effort went into creating a usable solution and what business models exist to support this. We’ll look at a self-generated approach using BIM 360 Ops software, a consultant-based solution (EcoDomus), and a vendor-based solution (syyclops). Based on the scale and type of project, we’ll discuss the merits of each solution and potential fits within the construction sectors. And we’ll have some value metrics and projected value over the lifespan of the building.

This will be a roundtable discussion to review and understand what is achievable when we apply the principles of generative design to the water industry. What does the future hold, and what are the immediate steps required to realize the potential that generative design can bring? This facilitated discussion will explore the definition of generative design, the environment it’s being applied to in this instance, the key fundamental principles, and the potential benefits it can yield.

This will be a guide to understanding how CAD data benefits print, digital, and immersive deployments involving augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). We will look at a strategic and tactical approach to implementing CAD data into CG visualization and immersive developments for training and technical communication within manufacturing. This talk will focus on the benefits and pitfalls of translating CAD data into functional CG assets for print (ILT), digital (WBT), and immersive (AR/ VR) deployments. Topics will include: better utilizing your product lifecycle management (PLM) and specific export formats into 3ds Max software; and creating Levels of Development (LODs) to target high-resolution output (print and animation) and low-resolution for real-time environments (AR/VR). We’ll also discuss why UV unwrap is painful but necessary for “the bake” and methods that embrace it. Lastly, building immersive experiences doesn’t always mean its training material.

This instructional demo will build on the out-of-the-cloud change management solution and incorporate a change implementation plan workflow to ensure that approved changes are implemented. We will use workflow logic and predefined/ad-hoc tasks with deliverables to close the loop from an approved engineering change to an implemented engineering change.

When creating items with workflows, we have the opportunity to build project timelines that provide high-level oversight and resource planning for project managers, as well as an intermediate level control for team leaders. Establishing milestones is an effective way to communicate expectations and measure performance to plan. This hands-on lab is designed to show you how easy it is to set up and configure an Autodesk PLM 360 software tenant. You will leave the course energized and able to get your tenant up and running. Through firsthand experience you will learn how to approach your tenant's setup as we review how to think about the overall system architecture and we then dive into hands-on exercises to show you how to set up and configure workspaces. We will follow up with exercises focusing on workflows and user notifications. We will then focus on how to create users in the system and manage the security settings to control which users have access to what information. Finally, we will demonstrate how to create reports to access the data in the PLM and how to create basic print views so users can easily print the information when necessary. Companies often have multiple tools for supporting their product lifecycle management (PLM) and related business processes. This situation is usually because of the limitations of individual systems and management of PLM-related projects in functional silos. Autodesk PLM 360 cloud-based product lifecycle management provides capabilities that can address most of the PLM business process needs. However, companies still need to build cross-functional consensus to make Autodesk PLM 360 the platform for their PLM processes. This class will describe how to achieve that objective.

This session will provide tips, tricks, and traps of establishing a multilevel Autodesk PLM 360 software approval strategy that you can implement in any implementation. We will walk through the entire process, including the mapping out of requirements and processes, the technical implementation of architecture and approach, and the business transformation required to implement this effective solution.

The class will aim to share relevant and transferable stories about cost-saving Fusion LifeCycle use cases as they relate to product management and internal operations.The class will focus on three areas: (1)Recognizing the overlooked losses in an organization - time; (2)How to transition from analog to digital management systems - the short term adversities and the long term payoff; and, (3)Using Fusion LifeCycle to promote positive culture change within your organization.

This hands-on lab is designed as a follow-up to Autodesk PLM 360 Administrator Zero to Hero Lab, but the lab is appropriate for anyone with basic Autodesk PLM 360 software administration experience. This course will enable you to access the more advanced settings in Autodesk PLM 360 software so you can take your tenant to a higher level of functionality. We will dive into the more advanced workspace settings, including calculated fields, workflow escalations, and filtered picklists. Through firsthand experience, and with no knowledge of coding necessary, you will learn to create and modify scripts in order to define custom behaviors in the PLM, such as validating data and controlling workflow paths. We will then use these scripts to create customized HTML notifications. Finally, we will demonstrate how to create and edit advanced print views in order to create custom forms and templates. This class will cover the Autodesk 360 cloud-computing platform from the design, manufacturing, documentation, and product lifecycle management standpoints. We will examine the benefits that the cloud can bring to your design process. You will learn how to invite others to collaborate with you on your design, regardless of their physical locations. You will also learn how to get more members of your organization who are outside of the design process involved with your products as they move through the manufacturing process.
