In this class, we’ll take a look at the new features and capabilities in the latest version of Alias software.

This class will look at how Alias software and VRED software enable the design and visualization of heavy machinery and equipment.

In this class we will go over some of the new features in Alias software that can help in procedural modeling techniques, and tools that you can create with scripts to be driven through Dynamo software. Dynamo is a visual programming platform that you can use to create custom algorithms to process data and generate geometry. Since version 2019, we have had an integration of Dynamo in our Alias line of products (Concept, Surface, and AutoStudio). With the latest release of 2021, we have included Dynamo player, which enables anyone to run scripts and capitalize on the power of these tools to improve workflows and processes to save time and effort.

In this session, we’ll talk about how Autodesk products like Alias software, VRED software, PowerMill, and PowerInspect can empower automotive design studios with technology to push the boundaries of creativity and collaborate radically with the goal of making better products, faster.

In this presentation, car designer Ning Ding will show best practices in automotive design through fast concept modeling, sketching, rendering, and animation workflows. Drawing on the full power available in Alias AutoStudio, Ning will share how designers and digital sculptors can work together during this process to bring a design to life. Ning will share live demo vignettes to show how designers can sketch and even directly create concept model by Alias, Speedform and Maya, visualize and render the 3D model in VRED and even create animations and cool scenes in Maya. Ning will also share insights into the current state of the automotive design market in China, where he has both practiced as a professional designer as well as his current job as a subject matter expert working for Autodesk. The class will show you an automotive interior design workflow. It will show how fast you can get to a physical prototype of an interior part. The workflow starts with quick concept modeling using Alias software. After that, we hand out the model to Autodesk Fusion 360 software for additional steps like physical model making and manufacturing cost evaluation. This early phase concept workflow can massively speed up your decision-making process for interior parts.

In this class, you will learn how Autodesk® SketchBook® Pro and Autodesk® Alias® Automotive can facilitate fast creative techniques, helping you create the punchy sketch and 3D visual to inspire, captivate, and stimulate your audience. Starting with 2D, the class will demonstrate the interface simplicity and natural workflow that is evident in SketchBook Pro. It will highlight the quality of the line weight and natural feel of the tools. Continuing to 3D, the class will touch on the translation of a sketch into Alias StudioTools and the use of quick visualization tools in Alias to output an image for retouching in SketchBook Pro. This case study will take attendees through the initial ideation phase of a design from rough sketch to a tighter presentable rendition. The workflow between SketchBook Pro and Alias will be highlighted. All data will be available for download.

Project Sugarhill is a technical preview of virtual reality (VR) conceptual design tools enabling artists and designers to start their creative process directly in 3D. Using simple curve and surface tools, designers can explore form and shape while being fully immersed alongside their design. This introductory class will demonstrate how to use the VR controllers for creation and manipulation of geometry, and how the various creation tools work. Other topics will include how planar and radial symmetry speed up the creative process, how reference images and geometry can be imported to help with the creation of designs, and how to change the color of geometry. Lastly, you will learn how to move geometry from Project Sugarhill to Alias AutoStudio and other 3D software packages.
