Technology is rapidly changing our world, specifically in the last year we’ve seen a significant increase in the use of virtual reality (VR) within the manufacturing and construction industries. VR is being adopted in manufacturing to train employees more thoroughly and efficiently, and it’s being used for training in construction in a number of areas including workplace safety, basic simulation, and extreme task simulation. Both of these industries are primed to implement VR at a massive scale, because they are extremely hands on in nature and can also be very dangerous without the proper training and experience. We recently utilized the Panzura cloud storage system to move our data to the cloud. This class will go over how the company ended up getting to this decision and how it has benefited by going to the cloud. We will also cover the buy-in from management and the changes that need to be made in IT to switch from on-prim storage to cloud storage. This class shows you how to use Civil View traffic import tools in 3ds Max Design software to bring in traffic simulation data from PTV Vissim. We examine how to prepare your data in VISSIM, how to bring that data into 3ds Max Design using Civil View, and how to handle conflicts such as overpasses. We then talk about various ways to use this data once it is set up, including how to export from 3ds Max Design to another 3D package such as Maya® software. You also learn how to replace the imported data with actual vehicles from the Civil View Vehicle library and how to use your own car library.

This class describes Nashville Electric Service's (NES) experience in adapting these software packages for their unique work processes. The class includes discussion of the challenges NES faced in the beginning, the pros and cons of using provided content versus creating customized content and provides examples of customizing Substation Design Suite content and templates in Inventor and adapting AutoCAD Electrical to meet specific design requirements.
