Eco-Design in Product Development: A Case Study with Ecoflo and Autodesk Fusion 360

With growing pressure from consumers and governments, sustainability is no longer a nice to have. As the design phase locks in 80% of environmental impacts, it is crucial to integrate sustainability into the product development process. This session will highlight the importance of eco-design in reducing the overall environmental impact of products and services, and how to apply these principles in Autodesk Fusion 360 software. Premier Tech performed a lifecycle analysis to compare the ecological footprint of the Ecoflo system, an on-site wastewater treatment system, and began applying eco-design principles in a holistic approach to its redesign. The new Ecoflo design is modular, made with recycled content, and supports the circular economy. This session will present how eco-design was integrated into the development of the new Ecoflo product, and how Autodesk tools like Fusion 360 and the Makersite plug-in were maximized to deliver long-lasting positive impacts.
