    Description

Managing bulk materials is one of the most important functions for mining companies. The value of the business is dependent on the quantity of minerals in the stockpile. Yet, it is challenging to know the volume at any specific point in time because material is continually being added or subtracted. Companies currently use aerial surveys to do this work. However, due to its expense, it can only be done about one time per month. Alternatively, the companies can utilize ground survey crews or terrestrial scanning. But, the safety issues and the quality of the data are concerns. In this course, we will demonstrate how to use an unmanned aircraft to conduct accurate surveys that can be conducted daily to give managers near real-time information with which to make decisions. We will discuss critical mission workflows, doing photogrammetric processing with Autodesk ReCap 360 and volume calculations with Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D.

    Key Learnings

    • Learn how to efficiently collect aerial data from an unmanned aircraft
    • Discover how to integrate hardware and software with cloud-based data management
    • Understand how incorporating UAS into your workflow will to reduce labor hours and increase profits
    • Realize a new solution and workflow for managing bulk materials
