MEP calculation software for BIM based design
SOLAR-COMPUTER provides modular software solutions for MEP engineering, building physics, energy performance assessment and BIM based planning workflows. The software supports engineers, consultants, architects and educational institutions in calculating, designing and documenting building and system data efficiently and in line with technical standards.
Designed for Autodesk Revit workflows
With GBIS for Revit, SOLAR-COMPUTER connects BIM models with engineering calculations for building services and energy related applications. Users can prepare calculation ready models, generate energy models, check plausibility and update the Revit model with relevant calculation results.
Key benefits for planning teams
• Integrated BIM workflows for Autodesk Revit
• MEP calculations for heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing and drainage
• Energy performance calculations, building physics and life cycle assessment
• Automated model preparation and plausibility checks
• Visual control of building and MEP data
• Modular software concept for flexible project requirements
• Reliable data flow from model based design to calculation and documentation
• Support for residential and non residential buildings
Solutions for practical engineering tasks
SOLAR-COMPUTER software helps users reduce manual data entry, improve model consistency and create transparent calculation workflows. This is particularly valuable for complex BIM projects, energy consulting, HVAC system design, hydraulic balancing, cooling load and heating load calculations, ventilation concepts and sustainability related documentation.
Trusted in professional planning and education
SOLAR-COMPUTER solutions are used by MEP engineering offices, energy consultants, architects, public sector planning environments, manufacturers and educational institutions. The software is designed for real project workflows, from early design and consulting to detailed engineering, documentation and BIM based coordination.

IBJ Ingenieurbüro Jesorlowitz is an experienced MEP planning office with 22 specialists and more than 20 years of successful SOLAR-COMPUTER software use. The team applies SOLAR-COMPUTER solutions for large residential projects, technical building systems, BIM oriented workflows and economic analyses. One example is a residential quarter for Gesobau AG with 676 apartments across twelve buildings, including accessible housing and a parking garage with more than 494 spaces. The project was calculated and simulated throughout with SOLAR-COMPUTER software. IBJ also used SOLAR-COMPUTER for the “Gartenstadt Olympisches Dorf 1936” project, comprising ten residential complexes with more than 18,000 m² of usable floor area. For economic evaluations, the software supports full cost analyses according to VDI 2067 and VDI 6025, including capital, consumption and operating costs. GBIS, IFC workflows and schema editors help IBJ accelerate BIM based coordination, pipe network calculations and practical MEP design.
"MBP-Ingenieure" has been delivering MEP planning projects since 1989, with offices in Leipzig and Mühlhausen near Heidelberg. The team has worked with Autodesk Revit for around ten years and has used SOLAR-COMPUTER calculation software since 1992. In theory, IFC should make architectural models directly usable for MEP calculations in Revit. In practice, models often lack the required quality: insufficient geometry, unusable wall structures, room-bounding suspended ceilings or missing calculation-relevant information can make coordination time-consuming. With the SOLAR-COMPUTER IFC Manager, MBP can prepare IFC models more efficiently for GBIS and Revit workflows. Rule-based model adjustments, improved room detection and automatic adoption of room names help reduce manual work, avoid input errors and make MEP spaces available for calculations faster. For MBP, the IFC Manager significantly accelerates the use of architectural models and supports more practical BIM workflows in daily MEP planning.
ALP Ingenieurbüro uses BIM methodology to plan complex building services across plumbing, heating, air conditioning, fire protection and building automation. Founded in 2019, the company has already completed numerous MEP projects, including logistics, hotel, office, commercial and residential buildings. To move beyond traditional discipline-based planning, ALP builds MEP-ready 3D building models in Autodesk Revit. When 2D plans or IFC files are provided, SOLAR-COMPUTER tools help turn these planning bases into usable model data. The IFC Manager prepares IFC files for Revit, while GBIS connects Revit workflows with SOLAR-COMPUTER calculations. For ALP, this supports faster coordination, early error detection and reliable calculation workflows. Key benefits include manufacturer product data, network checking before calculation, automatic section labeling, consistent results between drawing and calculation, standards-based airflow calculations and automatically updated annotations. Training options, online resources and responsive expert support further help ALP implement BIM-based MEP planning efficiently in daily projects.
