Use Cases

Architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC)

Design visualization: Architects and designers use tools like V-Ray and Enscape to create detailed, photorealistic renderings of building interiors and exteriors. This allows them to effectively communicate their design concepts to clients. Virtual tours: Interactive, cloud-based virtual tours of architectural projects allow clients to explore a space remotely from any device. Real-time exploration: Products like Chaos Vantage enable real-time ray tracing, allowing designers to explore complex 3D scenes instantly without waiting for long renders. Seamless workflows: Chaos enables seamless project transfer between design tools (like Revit) and visualization software, creating a smooth workflow for architectural firms.

Product design and manufacturing

Product visualization: Companies use Chaos software for photorealistic visualization of products, including consumer goods, electronics, and furniture. These renderings are often used for advertising and marketing materials before a physical product is created. Product configurators: Interactive 3D product configurators allow customers to customize and view products in a browser or VR headset. This is used in sectors like automotive and retail to boost sales. Marketing and advertising: Creating high-quality, photorealistic imagery for advertising campaigns, hero shots, and packaging is a major use case for Chaos products.

Media and entertainment (VFX)

Character and creature creation: Artists use Chaos software for digital character and creature work, including detailed skin shading, clothing, and hair/fur simulation. Realistic effects: The software is used to create realistic visual effects (VFX) such as fire, smoke, and liquid for films and animations. Animation: Film and TV studios use Chaos tools for high-quality animation and VFX rendering. Virtual production: Chaos is exploring how its technology can be used for virtual production in film and VFX through advancements like 3D Gaussian Splatting.

General content and tools

Cloud rendering: Chaos Cloud provides a scalable, on-demand render farm solution, allowing users to submit renders and continue working without using their local machine's processing power. Asset library: Chaos Cosmos is a large library of 3D assets, materials, and HDRI skies that helps designers populate and stage their scenes quickly. Workflow efficiency: The focus on interconnected solutions and AI enhancements aims to speed up creative workflows across all use cases.

AI-powered rendering with Forma integration improves creativity and decision-making

Clunky visualization processes hinder decision-making during schematic design. To create lifelike model images, designers must manually apply material and lighting details to every design option and suboption—a rendering process that could take weeks or months or be skipped altogether. Instead, design firms are likely to fall back on mood boards and sketches, which lack the visual details that help clients and other stakeholders make informed decisions. Veras was developed as an AI rendering tool to speed up the visualization process and empower architects to explore design ideation more effectively. To extend its value, Veras was integrated with Autodesk Forma, enabling high-quality visualization directly within the schematic design phase. Using Autodesk’s Forma SDK, Veras integrates seamlessly into the Forma workflow, bringing AI rendering into the early stages of project creation. Working from Forma’s base model, designers tell Veras how the design should evolve, from the type of geometry and style of architecture to materials, landscapes, and climate conditions. The tool generates high-quality renderings for the designer to build on directly in the Forma environment.
