Best-value procurement enables other factors (such as qualifications, schedule, quality, and performance-based criteria) to evaluate and select subcontractors, with the ultimate goal of providing the highest value for the end customer. BIM 360 cloud services have enabled owners and contractors working on thousands of projects to collaborate with their supply chain and access critical project data throughout the building-construction lifecycle. But it also keeps a record of this data, which can be analyzed to surface insights into supply chain performance. As an innovator in improving construction processes, Skanska was an early adopter of BIM 360 Field software. Building on Skanska’s experience, the presenters will review a large project that used BIM 360 Field to augment information flow and quality control, and improve project delivery to the client. BIM 360 Field enabled full sharing of supply chain information across fabrication and jobsite to ensure a successful quality project for the client. This 1,550-spot parking garage was located in a tight urban locale and consisted of 1,486 precast concrete members. Using BIM 360 Field equipment and checklist modules, precast members were traced from fabrication, transportation, and installation. In using BIM 360 Field, the project and subcontractor team reduced the manual effort involved in collecting quality and logistics data. The presenters will also cover lessons learned, including the need for transparency, barcoding challenges, and ongoing user support.

Attendees will learn how to export 3D rebar detailed in Revit Structure Suite software to a leading rebar MIS (management information system) software product: Applied Software Systems (aSa). This process will drive fabrication processes in the shop and field. We will cover many topics, including effective practices for detailing rebar for fabrication, organization of rebar releases in Revit software, the data exportation to and data checking in aSa, and the distribution the 3D rebar data along the supply chain.

This class will demonstrate how we've created a strategy and EIR for a project that will run for the next 8 years and which will attract future tenants. We’ll show this from a project management point of view: management of the design stakeholders, management of design, BIM for master planning, quantification, the use of BIM for visualisation/VR, and BIM as a product to attract tenants. From a construction management view, we'll demonstrate trade design coordination, supply chain management/education, BIM on-site, 4D sequencing and construction optimisation, and BIM use for tenant engagement.

In this presentation, attendees will learn how the structural steel industry is integrating technology to revolutionize the structural steel supply chain. Led by the AISC, the industry is forming strategic initiatives focused on select areas of the structural steel industry to apply technological solutions such as: Model Review and Approval, steelXML (a better way to buy steel), and Automating Steel Fabrication. These initiatives, known as BIMsteel, together form our overall interoperability strategy that will greatly impact the design, fabrication and delivery of structural steel in the US.

They are mandating strict information delivery requirements. This expert panel will discuss how BIM in the supply chain information delivery supports the client in meeting their business outcomes. The UK Government has joined the private sector in its commitment to a Platforms approach to industrialized construction and DfMA, outlining how this process underpins UK policy for social infrastructure in its ‘Construction Playbook’. The supporting plan to unify and mobilize data seeks to identify cross-department commonalities to inform the centralized, standardized design that will create economies of scale great enough to supply predictable, consistent pipelines and bolster a disaggregated manufacturing supply chain. Plugged into the existing supply chain, the barrier to entry is low, with no need for vertical integration or investment in manufacturing/prefabrication. As a result, opportunities for new programme-level roles will arise. Already a major feature in the procurement of 40 UK healthcare facilities, not only is this approach transforming the way the UK delivers public sector assets, but it is also paving the way for swift mainstream adoption.

This class will focus on two advantages that construction companies can gain when collaborating in the cloud: collaboration and scalability. We will discuss how to rapidly and effectively share, aggregate, and communicate Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based information in a controlled manner, across a diverse, often geographically dispersed and changing project constituency.
