This presentation will focus on the newly developed Topology Optimization technology now being used in Autodesk Nastran In-CAD software and also found in Autodesk Nastran standalone, Fusion 360 Ultimate software, Inventor Simulation software, and Dreamcatcher software. We will begin with an introduction of how Topology Optimization works, and then we'll focus on the Autodesk Nastran In-CAD interface for Topology Optimization. We will perform several examples that will include how to produce designs with minimized mass and maximized stiffness that comply with various design and manufacturing constraints. Examples will include minimized mass with stress and compliance design constraints and various manufacturing constraints such as additive and subtractive with symmetry. We will show a complete workflow that includes importing optimized .STL geometry and building a verification analysis model.

The recently acquired Autodesk Nastran general-purpose finite element analysis (FEA) solver has gained a lot of popularity, and at the center of this is the newly developed topology optimization technology now being used in Autodesk Nastran stand-alone, Fusion 360 software, and Inventor Simulation software. This class will introduce the basics of topology optimization in Autodesk Nastran and demonstrate some of the advanced features that empower designers to create better designs and modify existing ones, making them lighter and more efficient. This talk will present how the integration of Autodesk Nastran software, Helius PFA software with Advanced Material Exchange (AME) capabilities, and Moldflow software work together in the real world of complex composite simulations. Composite materials are an advanced family of materials that have been in development for decades and continue to gain usage in the aerospace, marine, automotive, and sporting goods industries. While composites enjoy benefits such as high strength-to-weight and stiffness-to-weight ratios, they are considerably more complicated than most metals and plastics. Helius PFA with its AME capabilities is part of the Autodesk Solution for digital prototyping, and it provides fast, accurate, and flexible tools for enhanced finite element analysis (FEA) of composite structures-manufactured from unidirectional or woven composites to injection-molded, short-fiber filled composites-including progressive failure analysis to help reduce testing and shorten design cycles by identifying potentially unforeseen design and material deficiencies.

In this class we will highlight Autodesk Nastran in-CAD software and review how to set up and solve linear and nonlinear simulations using this new tool.

This class is a practical introduction to using Autodesk Nastran In-CAD. Students will become familiar with the user interface and workflow, revisit core concepts in FEA, and perform stress analysis on a handful of everyday designs. With a few simple exercises, students will become comfortable and familiar with Nastran In-CAD. In each exercise, a new design will be introduced. Together, the class will use Nastran to set up a load case and analyse the resultant stress. After this, changes will be made to the design (geometry, materials) or the load case (forces, constraints), and the analysis will be repeated. By the end of the session, students should be as comfortable using Nastran for basic stress analysis as they are with Inventor's native stress analysis tool.

This presentation will demonstrate how we are using Autodesk Nastran In-CAD software as our first quick and easy tool for analyzing how a hydraulic seals design will be deformed during the installation process. In the off-shore industry, as in other industries, a lot of functional equipment is working as a function of hydraulic pressure and flow. The functionality of those systems is depending on how the hydraulic sealing system is working. Most of those hydraulic sealing systems are located inside the equipment, and it’s impossible to see how those hydraulic seals are deformed during installation. To optimize the hydraulic sealing systems, it is very important to perform FEA analyses already from the first phase in the design work. This class will be co-presented with David J. Weinberg, senior software architect.

This is our introduction class for the finite element analysis (FEA) with Autodesk Nastran Power Track. In this session we will introduce the Autodesk Nastran Power Track speakers and all the classes included in this power track. This class will cover the basics of FEA and explore examples (including linear stress, modal-to-heat transfer, and dynamic simulations) in order to gain additional insight and improve product design for automotive, oil and gas, and industrial machinery industries.

This class covers the use of bolted connections, joints, rigid elements, and other element types to link parts within multi-body assemblies inside Autodesk Nastran In-CAD and Simulation Mechanical.  Several models will be displayed to highlight the differences between solid and idealized connectors, and how each approach can affect the results. 

This presentation will focus on simulation techniques used to compare traditional hurling stick material and performance against a composite redesign. We used several Autodesk tools—including Fusion 360 software, Netfabb software, Moldflow, and Autodesk Nastran software—to evaluate and optimize the performance of the composite structure.

This class is for designers and engineers using Inventor with or without any simulation experience. This session will demonstrate real-life design examples using Autodesk Nastran In-CAD 2019.

This session will cover workflows, including some guidance and tips, of Inventor Simulation software and Autodesk Nastran In-CAD software, both of which work inside the familiar interface of Inventor software. This class is a must if you want to reduce your stress levels (and maybe blood pressure).

Wind Analysis is very common, but the dynamic effects are often overlooked. In this class, we will conduct a Transient CFD analysis on a vertical plate (cantilevered highway sign), and obtain the forces. These transient forces will be subsequently be used as input to a dynamic FE analysis, which will be used to predict the Fatigue Life of the structure itself. Finally, the results will be compared to a simplified “steady-state static analysis”. Attendees will learn about the CFD-FEA coupling capabilities in Autodesk and be shown the workflow in detail. Additionally, discussion will revolve around transient/dynamic FE analysis, tips & tricks, common pitfalls, and best practices.
