The recently acquired Autodesk Nastran general-purpose finite element analysis (FEA) solver has gained a lot of popularity, and at the center of this is the newly developed topology optimization technology now being used in Autodesk Nastran stand-alone, Fusion 360 software, and Inventor Simulation software. This class will introduce the basics of topology optimization in Autodesk Nastran and demonstrate some of the advanced features that empower designers to create better designs and modify existing ones, making them lighter and more efficient. This session features Nastran and SimStudio.

Mike is a Fusion 360 Product Manager at Autodesk. He has been a member of the Fusion 360 Product Management team for 3 years and is currently focused on Generative Design and Simulation workflows. He also has previous experience as a Technical Account Manager in Autodesk’s Manufacturing Named Accounts program, where he was working with customers to help them identify and solve business challenges with Autodesk solutions. Mike has spent nearly 13 years in the CAD and CAE industry, starting his career at Algor, Inc. in 2006, eventually being acquired by Autodesk in 2009. Mike holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Mike has been a regular presenter at Autodesk University since 2009.
David Weinberg is currently a Senior Software Developer for Autodesk and was the former President/CEO and Founder NEi Software from 1991 to 2014 until the acquisition of NEi by Autodesk in May 2014. He was the primary developer for NEi Nastran and currently leads the team of developers for the widely consumed Autodesk Nastran product. He also developed the Autodesk Nastran in-CAD product while at NEi. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He has over 30 years’ experience in FEA simulation working both as a user for several large Aerospace companies and as a developer.
