BIM (Building Information Modeling) and virtual design and construction (VDC) managers serve pivotal roles in empowering stakeholders across multiple disciplines and teams to fully maximize the BIM data stored in the model. Design models often lack construction data needed for downstream use, but adding customized information to a conditioned and structured model can result in a model that can be utilized from design to construction to handover. Currently, siloed solutions force teams to maintain multiple sources of truth for project documents at different project phases, resulting in heightened confusion. In this session, we will cover how project teams can incorporate integrated workflows with Assemble software, and get the full benefit of a common data environment (CDE) used by other Autodesk construction solutions, facilitating collaboration between project members to avoid duplication and mistakes.

In this session, we’ll take a peek behind the curtain to explore Revit HVAC analysis tools and the supporting workflows that empower practitioners to maximize Revit model data for heating and cooling load calculations. We will present practical approaches and methodologies for addressing challenges in performing HVAC analysis within Revit, including a deep dive into using the Revit HVAC analysis toolkit.

What are new emerging methods for tackling large and complex challenges such as sustainable design? More specifically, what might happen when we combine technology from one industry and apply it to another? Further, how can designers leverage these experiments in "convergence" to inform the future of design-and-make? Inspired by an Autodesk Technology Center resident, this case study explores the sustainable implications of converging industrial design tasks with "procedural modeling" tools (a Media and Entertainment technology). This talk shares the results of both practical hands-on experiments and conceptual thinking on how procedural modeling tools could influence higher performing design decisions applied to product-design and manufacturing. Experience the convergence of industries as the Technology Centers explore what it means to continuously reshape and adapt objects to meet functional and performance requirements.

This unnecessary clutter connects and hangs on to CADD files and models like barnacles to a ship, slowing it down and robbing it of its potential. This class will demonstrate proven practices and tips for avoiding and eliminating blotted data, debilitating large files, unused styles and layers, and unneeded data attached to drawings and models. We'll cover in detail 10 practical and timely practices that will avoid and remove these barnacles to improve efficiency, increase quality, and reduce frustration. A colleague says, “We've got a project with a 1227m bridge structure including 578m cable stay bridge, 6 approach/exit ramps, 2 overpasses, 5 pedestrian overpasses and numerous walls. Can you create an intelligent model in Revit?” You've used Revit software off and on for the past 10 years, and you remember how painful it was to do a bridge or tunnel that followed complex Civil 3D alignments. Then there are the inevitable design changes that occur while you’re trying to model these bridges. In this class, we’ll discuss how we utilized the InfraWorks bridge workflows to develop a fully parametric intelligent model of a multibridge cable-stay structure in a lot less time when compared to traditional 2D AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or even Revit workflows! We'll demonstrate the adaptability of the parametric InfraWorks bridge model and its ability to adapt to design changes. We'll demonstrate the breadth of information created, and finish it off with stunning screenshots and fly-through renders.

However, not everyone knows where to start. This session will cover the essentials of how to get started and be comfortable when collaborating with AutoCAD. The importance of education, automation, and data is at the forefront of strategic implementation of BIM (Building Information Modeling) at KPF. The firm’s initiatives and systems created the courage to adopt Revit software within studios, and foster and develop a skilled user base with educational resources and office-wide learning sessions. In project kickoffs, these tools helped teams identify opportunities to develop custom tools that would automate repetitive tasks. This session will address how KPF uses the data from intelligent models to help the design technology team monitor hundreds of active models. Team members used software such as Clarity, Dynamo, and Tableau to feed the information into a dashboard that let them assess model health and identify issues before they could arise. Let’s take a look at how this practice affects our evolution in offices and on projects around the world.

In this class, you will discover some best practices for starting a rebar project. Speakers will share their methods (how to set view templates, browser organization, key concepts for placing reinforcement). Thanks to dedicated wizards for 3D cage generation, PowerPack will be introduced to speed-up rebar placement for usual structural elements (beams, columns, footings,walls). Rebar schedules will be created thanks to configurable templates and completed with automatic schemas. Reinforcement drawings will be generated with a specific tool from our Powerpack, which will allow users to define tittle blocks and place sections into sheets. Drawings will be completed with dynamic bending details. To conclude, DBA Group, an Italian company, will share their feedbacks around projects they work on using those tools. Based on their high level of expertise in BIM, they will explain how to manage the modelling of rebars and take benefits, increased control and optimize sheets generation

Many MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) engineering calculations (heating/cooling loads, pipe and duct sizing, lighting calculations, and so on) are currently carried out in separate tools, with a separate model in each tool. Integrating engineering calculations in Revit software requires creating only one model, which greatly increases efficiency. Other benefits include increased quality and consistency of calculations, improved customer satisfaction, and the possibility to keep responding to the many design changes that can occur in the design of a project. Connecting Microsoft Power Bi to AutoCAD Plant 3D software enables your organization to apply business intelligence to your design models. Learn how to raise the visibility of the design process by giving project managers, engineers, and other teams access to your model data without interrupting the design process. Power BI can help answer questions like: What's the project progress in modeling? How many lines still need isometrics? Did all my equipment get modeled yet? Is my line list complete? These are common questions to ask, but they can require so much work to get an answer that the design process has to stop. With Power Bi, your reporting and project status information can be pulled in parallel with your design efforts. By being able to bring the status information to a weekly stand-up meeting, your team can focus on discussing solutions instead of discovering problems.

To provide even more flexibility and capability, the software is built on the Forge platform, which can assist anyone with customization or automation of certain tasks that are not built on the platform by default. In this class, we will demonstrate different tools and workflows that can automate some of the most tedious and repetitive manual tasks. You will also learn how to integrate the software with other platforms such as Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Dropbox—or with files on premises—and more.

Script (.scr) files can be used to quickly and easily automate strings of commands and repetitive command actions in AutoCAD software. Maximizing spreadsheet functionality to generate script files is a great way to take advantage of AutoCAD Script (.scr) files and get started with automation. In this class, we'll go over common scripting commands and set up a spreadsheet that can be used to output .TXT files for conversion to AutoCAD Script (.scr) files.
