Fusing Document Management and GIS: An Autodesk Approach
Collapse Expand

Surveyors, engineers, and governments all collect significant amounts of spatial data and supporting documentation such as design drawings and metadata. When undertaking new projects, it is important to have easy access to all the supporting information, especially in the context of geographic location. While you can store documents and their associated properties using document management systems such as Vault software or BIM 360 Docs software, those systems do not directly enable integration with a geographic information system (GIS). By accessing the Vault and/or Forge API along with Esri’s JavaScript and REST APIs, you can directly integrate GIS data to provide better, more versatile access to this data.

Key Learnings

  • Discover how to plan for a web-based platform to spatially query GIS data using Esri’s ArcGIS platform.
  • Learn how to query Vault and/or BIM 360 Docs using web-based APIs.
  • Learn how to create a web application in JavaScript to access files through these APIs.
  • Learn about the mechanics behind integrating the two platforms with JavaScript.
