Know Before You Go: AU Las Vegas 2019

AU attendee

It’s that time. Time to learn. To explore. To connect. And do it all in Las Vegas. The premier AU learning experience of the year starts in just a few days. Here are a few tips to make the most of your week.

Download the AU 2019 Mobile App

The right tool makes any job easier, and the right tool for AU Las Vegas 2019 is the free mobile app. Use it to schedule or cancel classes, meetups, and receptions. Use it to get around—it includes venue maps. You can also use it to fill out surveys and give feedback. Or answer a question. Or DM other attendees. Or receive breaking news. You get the picture. It’s indispensable.

Share a ride from the airport

With 11,000+ people scheduled to attend AU this year, we need your help reducing our carbon footprint. Share a ride from the airport (look for the AU Share Ride signs at McCarran) and start making connections before you even officially arrive.

Remember that if you’re arriving on Sunday, November 17, the Rock n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon will be happening as in past years. This means that they close down the Strip and other important roads starting at 2:30 p.m. You can still get where you need to go, but it may take a little longer.

Pick up your badge

You can pick up your AU badge at the front desk of both The Venetian and Palazzo hotels starting at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 17. Registration opens Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in the Hub. Satellite registration opens Sunday at 8:00 a.m. in the Venetian and Palazzo lobbies.

Attend Orientation

Once you have your badge, swing by the Hub and catch an AU Orientation presentation. We’ll talk you through the important events of the week, where you can find them, and why they matter, then answer questions. Join a 30-minute session Sunday evening, Monday, or Tuesday morning.

Get into classes

Still have your eye on that class you wanted to register for, but couldn’t because it was already full? This tip is for you: just show up. 5 minutes before the start of every class, any open seats are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. (On a related note, if you’re registered for a class, make sure you arrive with time to spare or someone else might claim your seat.)

Explore beyond your comfort zone

If there’s one thing AU is great for, it’s broadening your horizons. So try something new—attend a class outside your industry, tour the Expo, go to a presentation on a technology you don’t know much about. And make some new connections. Strike up a conversation in line, attend mixers and meetups, and yes, parties. At AU, a stranger really is just a friend you haven’t met yet.

Stay comfortable

There will be a lot happening over the week, so it’s important to take care of yourself on every level. Stay hydrated, wear comfy shoes, keep Chapstick with you, don’t skip meals, get plenty of sleep, and take time to decompress. Check out a few of our wellness activities—like the 5K and Fun Run and Sunrise Yoga. Or add a Guided Meditation Meetup to your schedule or stop by the Meditation Room in Marco Polo 801 anytime and spend a few minutes relaxing and recharging.

Sustain our sustainability

We’re proud to say that AU is a carbon neutral event, but there’s still plenty you can do to help with sustainability. In addition to sharing a ride from the airport, consider bringing a reusable water bottle and turning off the lights and AC when you leave your hotel room.

See you in Vegas. It’s going to be a great week.
