Product Change to Autodesk Inventor Improves Work with ERP System

Product Change to Autodesk Inventor Improves Work with ERP System

Customer challenge

Retail Business Solution (RBS) is a pioneer in providing total retail solutions. They were established in 1994 as a design company that now emerges as a market leader producing more than 300 styles of various kinds of retail equipment and accessories. Since they have many customers, the company planned to add a new ERP system in order to ease their work process. However, they needed to import some data such as cost, dimension etc. from the design part into the new ERP system.

Project goals

RBS needed to find a design tool that could: 1. Generate cost and transfer it to the ERP system 2. Generate products automatically when changing the size 3. Generate BOM automatically 4. Receive migrated data and models

Solution

After receiving those requirements from RBS, we used the Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing Collection as solution. We started with a 5-days long basic Autodesk Inventor training for RBS's designers to understand the concept. Then more workshop sessions were set up to introduce iLogic & scripts, BOM Generation, and Direct Model functions that were needed to achieve their goals. In the workshop, we used real models from RBS as samples and demonstrated those functions on them.

Business outcome

The teamwork between RBS's designers and ITSC's staffs helped tremendously to overcome this challenge. After switching to the Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing Collection, RBS's designers stopped using competitor's products. Its functions are able to serve all of their requirements. The Autodesk software even enabled RBS's designers to migrate their old work from the competitor product to Autodesk Inventor.

Conclusion

Typically customers don't change products if it doesn't result in a large and positive impact on their work. In order to show customers the impact of a product change, we have been very specific and focused on their needs. We have found the right functions to achieve their goals and customized the Autodesk Products to fit their requirements. That as well as our teams dedication was the key to opening the mind of RBS to new solutions that work for them.

Autodesk Vault

Founded on May 28th, 2003 as 2nd overseas factory at Amata City Industrial Estate, Rayong. They are special manufacture and sales of high-precision engine parts for motorcycle etc, and have consistent processing system from forging, machining, heat treatment, finishing and until assembling. For high-precision modeling design, Nissin’s designers currently use Autodesk Inventor from PDMC as a designing tool to create their work. However, there were three crucial issues that the team concerned. One was about version control since there were a lot of designing models and a lot of versions for each designing model to handle. The second issue was about how to reuse the old designing models if they wanted to combine with their new designing models. And the last issue was what the right version control tools and reusable tools to be compatible with their designing tool, Autodesk Inventor.

Technical Reskill for Workpoint Group.

Workpoint Group is a Highly functional independent TV content production company that grows into a multimedia corporation, now operating the top digital television channel, Workpoint channel. Since they had to recruit creators, who mainly produced cartoon animation, from one of their subsidiary companies called Ban Ittilit, that was a very challenging to switch these creators to produce TV content in a short period of time. The only tool, while creators created cartoon animation, was Autodesk Maya. And they were wondering whether Autodesk Maya, the current tool could be enough and used to create TV content or they needed to change their tools in order to handle their new role.
