Meinhardt (Thailand) is a leading engineering firm providing many disciplinaries of engineering consult. The Structural and MEP Engineering design are challenging, and we utilize BIM technology to design our work. Previously, Meinhardt redesigned an old building in Australia, as a prototype model for Thailand legalization as well as combined with local materials by utilizing BIM technology. Moreover, the project was designed to concern the surrounding environments in the area so, we have designed 3 projects in different part of Thailand and set the completion within 6 months.
Meinhardt (Thailand) and Meinhardt (Myanmar) has undertaken a structural design in collaboration with DMI – an architect firm co-designed a project utilizing BIM technology to deliver efficient outcomes within the limited of timeframe and ensure everything works well i.e., no design error or conflicts, then hand over to next sequence. The contractor will handle the for-con design until it implements to real construction.
Due to limitation of timeframe and according to the building prototype, we use BIM Technology to execute the Schematic Design stage and plan to recheck Clash Detection on a weekly basis. The BIM model must be reviewed by the responsible engineers and architects together with BIM Manager and responsible team. The weekly report is conducted utilizing Navisworks to manage the system.
Through design development, we manage to collaborate each team weekly to update our progress. By utilizing the Navisworks solution, we could generate our tasks producing reports and snapshots of each stage, reducing unnecessary duties - repeating the same process. As a result, it brings the efficiency in design and quality outcomes.
We found out several issues at the beginning stage of implementing BIM Model. However, we utilized Navisworks Manage to track and operate our design work which was helpful and reduced a lot of issues in term of design conflict, time consumption and efficiency of our deliverables in addition to transfer to the contractor for the latter process.
